Has anyone else noticed a difference with the 5 mg stage?

I'm on about my sixth week and unlike some who have lost tons of weight by now, I've lost a kg a week and feel okay about that.

I took the 2.5 for four weeks and felt absolutely great. I did wake one night with a mouthful of acid, which was awful, but other than that I felt good, didn't want any alcohol or sugar, felt really full very easily and was able to control what I ate very well. I was very surprised I didn't lose more weight, but hey ho, I thought I'd be in for the long term anyway and it would all even out.

On Monday this week I took my second 5 mg. I was really ill on Wednesday with diarrhoea, vomiting, burping, foul taste etc. I slept all day. Today I feel OK but I've noticed I'm thinking about food a lot more than I was for the previous five weeks and the suppression just isn't there. I don't feel really full when I eat the same things I ate previously.

I think the good thing about MJ is that you just inject and don't have to think about stopping. I don't intend to stop, but wondered whether this had happened to anyone else. I was very happy on the 2.5 dose and can't see why I'm not happier on this one!

full disclosure - I am not using this but thinking about it and doing as much research as I can.

It seems to me to be perfectly logical that when you’ve doubled the dose of a medication that stays in your system for a while, you might feel ill.

your story of waking up with a mouthful of acid bile is pretty scary. I presume you can talk to your provider about what the next step should be?

I am puzzled by your comment that you don’t think about stopping. I would have thought that with any side-effects if you can’t find ways to mitigate them, you might have to stop. And surely you have to stop this medication eventually anyway unless you get put on the maintenance dose.

EmeraldRoulette · 11/07/2024 20:06

Just to add, some of what you describe is what I’m concerned about. If you end up feeling hungry on reduced food intake then that would’ve happened without paying a huge amount of money and injecting a medication. Hopefully will bump the thread and someone with experience will come along soon.

Thanks for replying!

Regarding the acid - I've had this happen before, pre-MJ, as I often had acid reflux, particularly if I'd had a few drinks or had eaten something rich late at night, so although it's absolutely horrible, it is something I'm used to. It happened the first night after taking MJ - I'd had a glass of wine that night that was a bit acidic and I didn't know whether that was the cause. I have to say that in six weeks, those are the only two times I've had this problem. Prior to taking MJ I would have it maybe twice a week and I often had to take Omeprazole.

I think what I'm wondering is why, after six weeks, I'm not feeling the suppression as much as I had been. For the first four weeks in particular, if I ate anything I was immediately full. That was happening with just a bite of something. I felt as though you do on Christmas Day, just after having lunch. If someone offered you more food then, you'd groan and refuse it - that's exactly how I felt. However since increasing to 5 mg that feeling has gone, which is confusing me, really.

The reason I'm not stopping is because I'm hoping this week is a blip and that the suppression will kick back in. I had heard the acid reflux can be a side effect; given I was having that more frequently anyway, I am prepared to put up with two incidents in six weeks.

I wish I'd stayed on the 2.5 dose, really.

Do you mind if I ask how bad that acid was, please?

Unfortunately, I have more experience than I’d like with other types of medication. So in terms of why you’re not getting the same suppression, I’m guessing it’s because your body’s got used to it.

Well, it’s got used to it to some extent…If you are still losing weight and you are happy on the lower dose, maybe go back down - but obviously talk to your provider about it.

The big threads are quite overwhelming to look at, but I wonder if you’ll get more answers if you post on the July thread.

MounjaroUser · 11/07/2024 21:20

Yes, I probably should post on there, thanks! It's such a fast moving thread though that I thought it would disappear.

When I had reflux before MJ then I would be suffering for hours and then would often be sick (usually after brushing my teeth). When it happened these two times I felt OK when I went to bed, but woke up with acid in my mouth and had to get up, have a pint of water and take an Omeprazole. One of the known side effects of MJ is a nasty taste in your mouth - this has only happened on those two occasions, six weeks apart.

Why not go back to the 2.5? I've been on that for about 3 months now and never been tempted to go up - mainly because I don't want to risk feeling really unwell!

I've lost 45 lbs ish now and it's quite steady but happening

spuddy4 · 12/07/2024 10:45

This happened to me on 5mg. Zero side effects on 2.5mg and the first two weeks of 5mg were okay but then I had diarrhoea out of nowhere for the whole week but it settled back down after a few days. I've taken my first 7.5mg today so I'm praying this dose is kind to me!

MounjaroUser · 12/07/2024 12:19

That's interesting, @spuddy4. I had such suppression on 2.5 that I couldn't understand how it could get better than that. I never intended to go up to 7.5 if possible. I had planned to stay on it until Christmas. I'm not sure what to do now!

@SuperBatFace That's a really good loss and one I'd be more than happy with in that time. I wish I had stayed on 2.5, and when I renew in a couple of weeks, I think that's what I'll do.

Despite all my complaints, I do think it's a miracle drug!

Hi. I'm a bit ahead of you and just had my last dose of 5mg. Moving up to 7.5 next week. What I've found was that it hasn't been linear. I, like you, had a lot of suppression to begin with and now it's levelled out. But it is still working. I need think consciously that it aids my diet that I need to actively plan for rather than it simply makes me eat less.
It is still working for me though. Today, for example, I forgot to eat breakfast. Something that never happened to me before MJ. I feel like I've got an appetite of a naturally slim person. The type of people who choose to snack on apples, say no to cake and forget to eat lunch because they were too busy. I'm not advocating meal skipping at all - I'm just saying I don't think I've ever forgotten to eat a meal as I was always, always hungry.
I'm rambling on but what I'm trying to say is that although you might not feel the 'stuffed' feeling you initially did - I bet you're still eating fewer calories then you were pre MJ.
I would recommend calorie counting. Eating high protein if possible and avoid wine and beer. I've switched to gin and slim which is much more palatable on MJ than acidic wine.

MounjaroUser · 12/07/2024 12:39

I'm not going to calorie count or stick to any diet - I'm just eating less and being sensible. I didn't have a drink for five weeks - it never occurred to me, yet I was drinking a couple of good sized glasses a night before then and had done that for years. Last weekend I had a small G&T on each night, but didn't like it - it tasted different to usual and I only had it because I had a guest who wanted one. I also haven't had sweets or chocolates or cake or anything like that - again, it's not occurred to me. I would have something like that almost every day. It's easy to see why I'd gained weight and it wouldn't shift. When I was dieting I'd always allow for drinks etc in the diet and I'm sick of doing that.

The suppression was such in the first few weeks that I could easily not have eaten more than one bite of food at each meal. Obviously that's not healthy. That level of suppression has gone, though I'm still not wanting to eat large amounts. I can easily skip meals, too, but just telling myself I'll eat later. It's as though my brain doesn't panic about that and just accepts it.

Hi. I'm on week one of 5mg and I feel a bit like you actually, on 2.5 I posted on here because I was worried about how little food I was eating but now I feel almost "normal". If you put a big meal in front of me now then I'd probably eat it which is just weird because the suppression with 2.5 was huge.

I haven't had many side effects except extreme fatigue and I am massively constipated, haven't been for about 8 days now so I think I'm going to have to speak to my GP because nothing is working.

Sunshineandrainbow · 12/07/2024 13:07

Yes I feel the same which is strange. 2.5 the suppression was off the scale.

You can do smaller doses from the bigger does needles.

But can you keep the syringe in the fridge for two months? If so, that's definitely what I'll do as it'll be half the price.

Did you lose much weight in the first month, @frecklejuice? I was really surprised that I didn't lose more than I did, given what I was eating.

So close to my ideal bmi of 22 from 27 photo. Step count 120k a week for last 6 weeks and gym for strength. Recorded food on my fitness pal to watch carbs sugar , and up protein. Delighted. Had so many diets but hunger killed me.. Thinking I never understood carbs properly before and insulin resistance. Side effects stopped cold hands and dizziness. Constipation but have fibre and magnesium and dulolax x 2/7 days. Fluids need to be upped. Eating 3 times a day super healthy
