Mounjaro and binge eating

I'm hoping someone can help.

I've spent a long time research weight loss injections but I can't seem to find a lot of information relating to injectables and binge eating.

I am a binge eater and over the past year it gotten a lost worse. I now eat compulsively and constantly to the point where I just seem to be eating junk food all the time around my healthy meals. I am very rarely, if ever, hungry when I eat.

It is this constant unhealthy excessive snacking that I need to address as I've put on almost 2 stones in the past year and I was seriously overweight before that so am now obese.

For those using Mounjaro, do you think it would help with this? I have read a lot about it stopping the 'food noise' but does it stop the habitual need to eat even when not hungry?

Thanks

This is exactly how I feel too. Mounjaro has helped me so much. It’s also shown me how my naturally healthy weight friends live - not with this weird food compulsion. Reminds me of men who complain about being chained to a lunatic (their sex drive)! My food drive was like that. Currently tamed by Mounjaro.

Thank you, I have never heard that expression and it really explains how I feel about my eating.
When people who haven’t experienced this say just eat less it drives me mad.
Rather like people can take or leave alcohol comparing their experience to an alcoholic. Useless!

Us all that stopped for me very quickly on MJ

I've been using monjourno for nearly 2 months now and it's great, however my provider (medexpress) has said that because my GP has advised that i have Binge Eating Disorder they can no longer continue treatment. So I signed up for boots and just had another note to say because of the previous diagnosis for BED they won't provide it either. I suffered quite badly during the pandemic but the referral for CBT wasn't until 2022 by which time it was mostly under control. Now I don't really feel like I have an issue except for boredom snacking/grazing which monjourno has totally sorted. If you have an official diagnosis for BED - where are you getting your pens from? I feel like if I go to the GP, I will need to jump through a tonne of hoops for years when I know this is working now...

You could try somewhere else such as Voy they have coaching / advice too. I don't remember them mentioning anything about binge eating? PM me if you like I'm with them and have a code you can use with them if you like

This is so stupid. Surely most people on it have binge eating disorder, or at least another compulsive eating disorder. It's just unfortunate for you that you've been diagnosed!

I went with Cloud pharmacy, and just ticked the box to say I don’t want my GP informed. Your GP does not have to know, it’s a publicly available medication. You could try there using a photo of your prior prescription/box?
(NB. For me, I am in NI and a GP or pharmacist in England has no access to our healthcare systems anyway, so the GP information sharing is a completely pointless tickbox on the form.)

My friend is a binge eater and it unfortunately hasn’t stopped her binging. The MN obviously stops her from feeling hungry but obviously binge eaters eat past the point of fullness anyway, and the MJ hasn’t switched off the mental side for her.

i think this is pretty unusual though so it’s probably worth a try if you’re eligible and can afford it.

Redlightbulb · 09/11/2024 13:50

I suffer from BED (not officially diagnosed).
Just started month 4 and I haven't binged once.
It has really helped with the cravings.
Before MJ I hit a bad patch and couldn't go a week without a binge.

Bellyblueboy · 10/11/2024 18:30

I am only seven weeks in with Mounjaro - but the urge to binge is completely gone.

I didn’t feel hungry when I binged - so I wondered if MJ would make a difference. But it really has. I have also easily been able to stop the red wine habit (not a compulsion like the eating, but a bad habit all the same).

Hi guys I’m just wondering
can you order this to Republic of Ireland? Was looking into it but it’s asking for
my uk gp details?
Just don’t know how to go about it… as republic of Ireland it’s hard to get

mounjaromarc · 27/02/2025 04:40

It's helped but hasn't stopped it but I don't necessarily eat because I feel hungry. This is what I have felt so far.

2.5 pen 1 helped and lost 1 stone.
2.5 pen 2 helped and lost 8lb.
5mg pen 1 didn't work, gained 4lb.
7.5 pen 1, 2 weeks didn't work, gained 2lb.
7.5 pen 2, helped lost 6lb
10mg, current dose.

Hi
I have read that a lot of people are paying privately for the Manjaro Injection for binge eating as it seems to help.
As I thought you could only take the injection if you were type 2 diabetic or a BMI of 35.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.🤔

SilenceInside · 05/03/2025 09:34

@Shiningstar67 "I have read that a lot of people are paying privately for the Manjaro Injection for binge eating as it seems to help.

Nearly everyone who is using Mounjaro for weight loss will be getting a private prescription and paying for it. The NHS will prescribe it for Type 2 diabetes in some specific circumstances, usually if other medications are not controlling blood sugars well. There may be a few people who are getting it for weight loss on the NHS, who are on the Tier 3 weight loss management list and whose NHS area are prescribing injections, but most areas only offer bariatric surgery. Your BMI would need to be higher than 35 and you would need to have weight related health conditions as well.

However, that's the NHS decision making process, not the actual prescribing criteria. Mounjaro can be prescribed, privately or by the NHS if they choose to, to anyone with a BMI over 30. Or a BMI over 27 with a weight related health condition, or a BMI over 27 and they are one of a list of ethnicities where "obese" is defined as starting at BMI 27.
