Hi there
I have read that I should plan to be in calorie deficit if I am going to use GLP medication. Should I look at the calories I would need to maintain my weight, 2250, or should I look at what calories I should have to loose weight?

I was thinking of aiming for 1800 for the first month to get in the flow of things and not have the body thinking I am starving myself. I currently weigh 130kg.

Does that sound sensible, if not, and you have been at my weight, what do you suggest please?

You need to aim for about 500 calories less than your bmr. There are calculators online which will help you work this out.
Kindly, you need to know more about how this works before you start using injectables.

Isn't that why she's asking the question, before she starts using the injections?

The online application process (assuming a private prescription rather than NHS) should go through everything in detail and there should also be support available afterwards where you can ask any questions that you're not clear on.

The advice from the service I'm using actually doesn't mention calorie totals at all. It concentrates on nutrition in general and mindful eating.

Thank you, @SilenceInside

@GrimDamnFanjo I have been researching for a couple of months now and I am getting serious. However the more I read the more confused I get. So now I have found this group here I thought I would get some more input and thoughts than just what I have ready.

Apologies I completely misread your query! I thought you were asking whether to cut down your calories or not!

The Newbies thread may have some helpful info for you?

@LongDuckDong when I was preparing to start, I didn't calorie count at all. But I did practice mindfulness, so no shoveling stuff into my mouth in front of the tv. I bought myself a nice little bowl to have snacks in, rather than having a bigger bowl. I read the glucose goddess and the obesity code, which both made sense to me. I also lost interest in alcohol and fizzy drinks, I have around 3l water per day and occasionally tonic zero or an alcohol free beer as a treat.

Now my weight loss has plateaued, I am starting to use MFP to log what I eat. It's really helpful as I find all the macros etc very confusing. It's really helpful, and I am hoping that it will help me get started again.

I started making the above changes whilst waiting for stocks to increase last autumn, and I did start to lose weight. I eventually started on the injections in January. They are a great crutch, but I still had to do the work.

I now no longer have UPF (except ice cream at the moment!) and keep my food simple. Salads, stir fries and protein mostly.

I have found myself really exhausted by the end of the working day and so exercise hasn't happened. I was doing yoga 2-3 times a week and swimming 2-3 times a week but that has all gone out of the window. Am trying to make a conscious effort to get moving but am seriously lacking motivation. That's my next big goal.

It can be done, but you need to be mentally prepared. It's not magic, but it is a great tool. Also, slow and steady wins the race...
