I've been feeling pretty unwell- can I continue ?

I'm on week 8 or so and have so far had ZERO side effects.

I've been injecting into my arms and thighs and not stomach. I was getting a bit frustrated because I wasn't getting much suppression on my 2nd dose of 5mg so decided to try my last 5mg in my stomach and I've been so ill since Sunday.

I have spoken to my doctor about it, but they're not going to run any tests and just weren't that helpful.

I've been having stomach ache at the top of my stomach, sulphur burps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Are those just normal side effects or could it be pancreatitis ?

What tests do you think a doctor should run though?

Go back to your provider they should offer advice

isthewashingdryyet · 25/06/2024 12:29

Clearly there is a reason the stomach is recommended , why on earth would you use a different part of your body ?

What ? You can inject stomach, thigh or arm. I've done nothing wrong with how I injected.

I read on here that you could get a blood test to check for pancreatitis and someone had it.

I don't know if I'm just over reacting though and these are just normal side effects. Because what I describe is all on the list of side effects. So I'm probably fine. Just wanted to hear from others who have been through similar experiences.

I don't think it's right that the NHS don't prescribe this yet people expect the NHS to pick up the pieces/run tests!

isthewashingdryyet · 25/06/2024 12:39

It’s given in the same place as insulin injections, have you used the right area on your upper arm and thigh, as it is quite hard to get to the sub cut places

insulin is not effective if given in the wrong place, so would make sense for these injections also to not work well in the wrong place.

sounds to me like this last injection actually worked but the preceding ones didn’t, so you have just had your first jab

How do you know NHS has anything to do with this ? Why don't you just stay out of it if you can't say anything helpful ?

Yes I've used the right areas and I've had good suppression generally. Some weeks not as good, so I thought I would try stomach this time.

@wallfe Ive read posts about people getting bad side effects half way through 5mg, Also it could just be the stomach area some seem to have more/quicker suppression compared to the thigh. I don’t think it’s a case of it’s not worked before now just maybe more gradual. You could titrate down a little on your next dose to see if that helps as the medication will be building up with every dose

Helps if the facts are correct too 🙄

Under new draft NICE guidelines, Mounjaro has been recommended as treatment for overweight and obesity on the NHS when someone has a BMI below of at least 35kg/m2, and they have additional medical conditions that are related to obesity.

Thanks for a helpful and useful comment.

I'm never injecting in my stomach again, that's for sure.

My next injection isn't due until Saturday so I have a bit of time to think about it all.

You're very rude.

OP, hope your side effects settle down soon. Could you go back down to 2.5?

wallfe · 25/06/2024 16:33

@hoarahloux yeah maybe. I don't know. I'll see how I feel this week. I just find it hard to know if this is just a normal side effect or the start of something more sinister. I guess it's hard to know.

Like you, I have had suppression and weight loss but minimal detrimental side effects thus far. Then I took jab 3 of 5mg and OMG, I felt like I had been hit by a bus. It felt like the worst jet lag I had ever experienced, combined with nausea, shakiness and full body aching. I plan to titrate down for my next jab and may also leave it 8 days . I hope your own side effects pass soon.

Sorry to hear that you also had bad side effects and yes it's indeed my third 5 mg dose. I've lost a stone or so since I started.

I haven't lost any weight the last three weeks. I also went slowly from 2.5 to 5 mg, I had two weeks where I did 3.75 and then 4 mg, before moving to 5mg as I really didn't want to get super sick.

I'm scared to eat anything now. I've just been eating bread / plain carbs and no fats, very bland minimal diet as I don't want to aggravate my stomach. I've had hardly any sleep for two nights. Last night I had to take my DD to an and e in the middle of the night while I had these stomach cramps and nausea. It was horrific !

Hope you feel better soon. I hope it doesn't wake me up again tonight.

I stopped. Could not handle the side effects knowing I was titrating up each time rather than just boosting back to same level.

Menora · 25/06/2024 19:51

I only ever injected Ozempic into my stomach. I was on it from April till end of Sept 2023. It was during the shortage so I did 6 weeks at 0.25mg before moving to 0.5mg. I was grotty with never ending nausea and tiredness but nothing major. In the September after being on 0.5mg for quite a few weeks I had two incidents of horrendous stomach pains (for hours and hours) and all these symptoms you had, I hadn’t had this before.

I didn’t get tested for anything but GP said it sounded like gallbladder so I stopped injecting. I’ve had a few incidents of stomach pains again which were more like reflux/indigestion so I take nexium then feel better. If it’s gallbladder I found bread makes it worse.

problem is weight loss and the injections can cause gastric issues and gallbladder problems so the ideal solution may be to stop taking them and see if you feel better, rather than continuing on something that has these known side effects and expect a doctor to investigate it. I can only suggest you try some nexium for the time being until you decide what to do

icclemunchy · 25/06/2024 20:01

Does your dr/whoever prescribes this not advise you on doesage/side effects etc? It sounds like a lot of people just decide how much to give themselves?

I don't take any of these for weightless but I do take insulin as a diabetic and if I was getting awful side effects my endo team would advise me

RunningAndSinging · 26/06/2024 12:31

Hope you are feeling better now. I have had side effects like you describe suddenly and for the first time after my 17th injection (all into the stomach) and my 4th 10mg. It only lasted about 24 hours for me. Not fun but I am planning to cut my dose a bit. I don’t think it is anything sinister as they are listed side effects and the pain is probably due to the diarrhoea gut spasms.
