Anyone under NHS for Mounjaro?

Just had my first visit to the diabetes research centre at the hospital. Got ecig he'd and measured. Talked through the side effects and application etc.

I have to go back on Monday to collect my first pen and then return every month for a new pen, with appointment to see the doctor to get reweighed and have measurements taken every 3 months.

It's seems a lot more sensible than buying online and at least the hospital are accountable for their sources. Plus I'm type 2 so free prescription and no worries about supplies.

The doctor also talked about new drugs coming on the market and that I might be able to enter a study for them as I'm already on their 'list' now.

Does anyone else get theirs' under prescription?

That's really positive that you are able to get it on the NHS.

I'm interested in what new drug the trail is for.

The buying online is for private customers that buy from online pharmacies for weight loss. So far you can't get Mounjaro on the NHS if you aren't diabete.

I think there are many others like me who fall into the area of needing it but "computer says no" for the NHS. I'm pleased to hear some are getting it now though.
I have a BMI in the high 30s and chronic asthma but, although asthma is worsened by higher weight it is not deemed to be a "weight related condition" although COPD which has very similar symptoms to chronic asthma is.
My GP tried to refer me but the NHS guidelines are for BMI over 40 without a weight related condition (these include diabetes, high blood pressure, PCOS, sleep apnoea, etc) so I had to either be fatter or sicker before I could get help.
Personally I'd sooner pay and try not to be fatter or sicker!

I have mine from the GP on the NHS.

I'm on 7.5mg now and into my 9th week.

I've lost 1stone 9lbs.

I have an annual well being review booked for 4 July.

Now I'm on 7.5mg this will be added to my repeat prescriptions they said.

I'm also type 2 diabetic. I use nutracheck and weigh and measure everything. Only side effect I have is constipation!

Still in the process of working out what helps best with that!

Good luck on your weight loss journey.

My area won't prescribe as they told me even though it's licensed for use, none of their pharmacist are licensed for dispensing it. That was from the weight management clinic. They cannot even advise me in anything since I'm taking it as if they do and I get a complication they then become liable.

Yes, I was offered Mounjaro when I went about something else. I was originally prescribed Victoza last summer but never actually started it due to a supply problem.
I’m type two diabetic.
I’m about five weeks in and although I’m not eating anywhere near as much as previously, I’ve only lost about 5lbs so far.

I have PCOS. Fatty liver. High cholesterol. Pre diabetes and a bmi over 42. They said no at my gp.

My GP said weight loss jabs are not prescribable on the NHS unless the patient is diabetic. I'm not but have Fatty Liver, high cholesterol and blood pressure BMI of 35, Chronic asthma and osteoarthritis. I've bought it privately.

Oh dear.

Out of interest, which pharmacy? Or is it a hospital pharmacy?

Babysharkdoodoodood · 24/06/2024 13:00

The hospital. It's prescribed by the research centre and sent over there. Possibly Thursday

Got a phone call from the pharmacy and they're sending it over on Friday morning. Free home delivery! Gobsmacked!

I started on Mounjaro 2 weeks ago (I am Type 2 diabetic) prescribed by the doctor. I was using Trulicity until the supply dried up last year. I am also calorie counting and intermittent fasting. I find drinking lots of water helps combat the constipation.

Type2whattodo · 27/10/2024 17:37

I'm hoping to get it prescribed at my appointment in a week.

Metformin is not a good thing for me, terrible constipation.

T2 diabetic, BMI 35.7, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, have been paying privately and starting BMI was 43. So I know it works. Hopefully my GP prescribe it. They refused last year.

TwinklesToes · 28/10/2024 13:14

Good luck.
