Side effects: Wegovy / Ozempic / Mounjaro - what have you experienced?

Hi! I want to start this thread as I'm keen for people starting these to understand what they're getting into. I've included all 3 in the chat title as they all target one specific gut chemical pathway, and Mounjaro targets an additional pathway.

I started Wegovy c4 weeks ago given BMI of 31, c30kg overweight, and stopped it after the 2nd of 4 injection weeks at the low start dose (each syringe gives you 4 doses) because I felt like my stomach was in knots (still does despite the break), my bowel movements near stopped, I often felt nauseous and even suddenly threw up in an airport waiting lounge (no time to get to loos). Thirsty all the time but felt sick if I drank water. The discomfort has been horrendous and is yet to dissipate.

Having read cases of people of finding themselves with obstructed bowels - which there is very little coming back from - I decided to stop for safety's sake. I'm kicking myself for even trying it. Can these really be safe?! Or is this the oxycontin of the future?

I'm going to do Bright Line Eating instead.

What have been your experiences?

Nausea and constipation. I manage the constipation pro-actively so am not even remotely concerned about the remote chance of bowel obstruction. I don't have much nausea these days although about once a month will vomit completely out of the blue (doesn't have a link to what I eat unfortunately).

It will be 2 years for me this October. My BGL is amazing, I can eat carbs now without a major spike (within reason of course). I'm still slowly dropping weight but I'm not too concerned about weightloss.

What do you mean that there is little coming back from a bowel obstruction? Most people will need a manual disimpaction and then follow up with laxatives. It's worst case scenario to end up with a bowel resection and/or stoma.

About 5% to 30% of people with small intestinal obstruction die within 30 days, according to a 2022 study. The rate is between 10% and 20% for large bowel obstruction. It is an emergency and often needs surgical intervention. So glad you're managing it!!

I've been on MJ for 8 weeks and lost 24lbs. I absolutely love it. No side effects apart from slight constipation which hasn't been an issue . I've cut my alcohol consumption down by about 80% . I feel so much healthier. I have another 7-10lbs to lose but then will use it to maintain my weight.

Tried Wegovy and had massive panic attacks about four days in. Never ever again, it was awful.

I've not had any negative side effects on Mounjaro except some very mild constipation (going every 2 or 3 days rather than every day) and needing to drink a lot more water in the first few weeks. The only real effects I notice are the ones I want: feeling fuller for longer and less food noise so I don't crave junk in the same quantity I did before.

Nausea and diarrhoea for me mainly.

Couple of stomach twinges and slight reflux but not much.

MonaChopsis · 22/06/2024 12:06

Constipation, which is manageable via water intake and eating prunes etc.

No nausea at all. I can't even think of drinking alcohol but am feeling like that's a benefit rather than a problem! Really main drawback is the impact on my bank account. I've budgeted for one year and will come off after that.

beergiggles · 22/06/2024 12:10

The bank account 'side effect' pretty much rules it out for me 🤦🏼‍♀️

wickerpram · 22/06/2024 14:02

Very mild nausea after injections but most of the time absolutely fine. Oh, I find I'm really tired and sleep very well after each injection. The benefits far, far outweigh any negative side effects for me. It's like a miracle drug.

I had a bit of nausea. Diarrhoea for a couple of days and constipation for a couple of days, which I managed easily with lepicol. I have reached my target and off it and maintaining now. I'd take it again in a heartbeat, best thing I ever did.
