Mounjaro... to start or not to start??

Just that really.

I'm overweight.. BMI has just hit 40 post baby 😧

I've struggled a lot in the past with losing weight consistently enough. A stone here and there.. my weights just slowly crept up over the years.

I need to quieten the food noise. I want to just not care about food that much!

Has anyone else debated whether to start mounjaro? What did you end up deciding?

Why yes?
And why no?!

Its the best decision I've ever made to do MJ. It isn't an easy way out though. I have worked really hard at my diet and MJ is just helping me know when I'm full as well as reduce the food noise so I can follow my meal plan without temptation getting to me. I've recently been on holiday and it helped me declined all the things I'd have fallen for like desserts and ice cream - I regret nothing, I had no FOMO and I lost weight! I'm with MedExpress but they've stopped with the codes so a bit expensive, I'm sticking with them because they are reliable, I order on a Wednesday and delivery happens on Friday so I can organise being at home.

Could someone explain to me what happens after month 1, the dose increases, the price increases I want to try to budget for this so it would be helpful to know if anyone can tell me

also, if you’re not interested in food , how does that work with cooking for family? I’d dearly love to hand over some responsibility to others for their own bloody lunches (h, I’m looking at you..)

i want the food noise to stop, i want to stop having to think about it for a while.

I am in the same boat, I even went so far as to order today but back down at the warning that they don’t know about long term side effects. Pre baby I lost 3.5 stone through calorie counting and I know after the first few weeks it got easier for me. I’m going to go for that again, it can be done without risking new medicine and saving the money!

Totally respect it's your choice, but to make sure you have all the current info, this type of medicine has been used for years to treat diabetes. It's only new to being used as a weight loss medicine.

Thanks ladies.

Good luck to those who have taken the plunge and started!

I really need to do something. I have so much food noise and I just want no appetite. I had no appetite while pregnant and lost a stone initially. Piece of cake!

I've started to take Glucomannan before meals and drinking lots of water. It's helping slightly, but the urge to snack and pick is still there.

I think for me, I feel that mounjaro is a bit of a cop out (for me). Am I taking the easy way out? I know I wouldn't be as you still have to put the work in! I'm worried about side effects.

And I'm worried about the food noise training and piling it all back on again after finishing!

I also worried I was taking the easy way out, but it's no more easy than treating any other medical condition. Is it easy to take blood pressure meds, or use anti smoking patches?
And would you say that about someone taking the pill or some other form of contraceptive, instead of abstinence?
For me, it has been life changing. I started at just under 21st in March, and I've lost over three stone since then and going strong.
I did it in the end because nothing else worked and I have a four year old, the idea of eating myself to death terrified me (and resulted in more stress eating). I have to do all the work, exercising and eating a well balanced and healthy diet, but I finally feel like there is hope and I can achieve it.
Make the decision that is best for you, but make sure it's an informed decision. There is a lot of misinformation out there (from both sides)

And if you do, please order from a reputable chemist - a lot of the horror stories are from people taking rubbish they bought off Facebook or from an unqualified source.

Thanks guys, I'm definitely leaning more towards doing it. I'm on mat leave so money is tight so really need to be on a very strict budget..

One of you made the really helpful point that it has already been used for years for diabetics so I feel better about the 'long term side effects' worry.

I feel kind of excited in anticipation now!

It's possible isn't it?

That I can feel confident and comfortable in my own skin again?
That I could feel sexy and look sexy?
That I could wear a bikini on holiday?
And wear a skirt or shorts? I haven't since I was a child and even then I wasn't comfortable?
Not having to hold my stomach in or hide it for pictures.
And move easier with my soon to be toddler.
And lost importantly, a healthier me for the future.

I am genuinely emotional thinking of what could be...

I see plenty of people have already responded but just to give my 2 cents:

I am on MJ, and my only regret is I didn’t start it sooner.
I am a pretty fast responder and have lost a stone and a half in 30 days, but even if the rate of losing was much slower, it would still be so worth it. It quiets the food noise and allows you to make smart food choices, no emotion involved.

It is expensive, but I look at it like an investment in my health and wellbeing. I want to be healthy for myself and my family, and this is one of the best things I can do. It is a form of self-care for me.

RE risks/side effects, I think if you do your research you’ll find most people have pretty mild side effects (if any). Risks - theoretically there are some, but being obese definitely carries a TON of health risks, for sure.

Also, it is not a new medicine- it has been on the market for diabetes for over 20 years, and there’s been plenty of research into it well before then. Yes, it has so far been used for diabetes, but the medicine doesn’t discriminate/doesn’t care what you are taking it for - the effects/risks are the same regardless of what your reason for taking it is.

spottydogsarethebest · 24/06/2024 07:37

3 weeks in for me and 10lbs down, and I'm another one who wished I'd started earlier.

My starting BMI is also 40, and I am technically 'morbidly obese' although that term is no longer used.

I'm older than you (41) and it really does get harder as you get older to not only lose, but also carry the weight. I felt unwell, aching joints, tiredness, something had to change but 7 stone weight loss just seemed impossible.

Mounjaro has given me hope. It's honestly amazing. I feel totally indifferent to food, concentrating only on trying to make better choices and keep up protein intake.

My advice would be to go for it. Good luck!

I am nervous about side effects but want to start... after my baby I just can't keep the weight off :( is wegovy or Mounjaro better for side effects?

Other than constipation, I have had no side effects.

It has been absolutely life changing for me - no food noise going on in my head all the time, no bingeing, no craving sweets/ chocolate / cake etc, I can take or leave anything.

3 months and 3 stone down, BMI from 38 to 32. Still a way to go, but I finally feel like it is achievable.

All of that would be worth any side effects for me.

I decided to take Wegovy after trying for years to lose weight and just making no progress. I'm so happy I did it. I've lost just over 3 stone and am now a healthy weight. My DH can't stop commenting on it, says I look 10 years younger.

Did you stop taking it then once at goal weight ?

howdydude · 09/09/2024 10:17

Hi ladies. What's the best way to get MJ? Thanks.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 09/09/2024 12:24

@howdydude have a look at some of the online pharmacies that prescribe it and see what they offer.

Some people want the cheapest option or are happy to post a referral code in multiple places. Some want some handholding and reassurance. Some want a full subscription service with weight loss coaches etc.

It's entirely up to you and what sort of service you are looking for.

At the top of the 'main thread' (continuing Mounjaro) is a link to a website with loads of information for new starters.

Also, if you google miss mounjaro uk, there is a very helpful website with info and price comparisons. Good luck!

CrazyGoatLady · 09/09/2024 16:32

I was really worried at first about taking it. But have had minimal side effects on 2.5, lost 1kg in the first week which took me out of the obese category BMI wise (was only just in it). I am in week 2 now. The lack of food noise is incredible.

My deal with myself is, taking MJ can't be a quick fix and I have to do this alongside diet changes and changing my relationship with food long term. Without that it's pointless as I won't address the issues that made me prediabetic and borderline obese in the first place (stress, boredom/emotional eating, poor sleep, too much sugar and junk food)
