Where to buy an off-the-peg wedding dress at short notice?

Hi, thanks for reading, really need advice. Eldest daughter getting married 8/8/26, went to pick up wedding dress today from tailoring and she hates it! She thinks it’s to tight and sexy looking so cannot bring herself to wear it. Thinking we need to buy ann off the peg ( this weekend if possible and then get it tailored) Any recommendations for bridal shops/outlets where you can buy a dress and take it away that day? We are North Nottinghamshire/ South Yorkshire area but willing to travel further - I love her so much I just want to get this sorted for her and need her to be happy. Many thanks for any help x

Not everyone’s cup of tea I know but my local St Luke’s had hundreds of them. I wish I had know that before my wedding I never would have paid so much. The dresses they sell are in excellent condition and get dry cleaned.

Try Catherine Deane - really lovely, would need a tailor to shorten etc if necessary.

Monsoon and Whistles have gorgeous bridal ranges. Loads were in the sale in Monsoon when I checked the other week too. Wed 2 B a good option as well.

I bought my wedding dress off the peg from Ghost. I also got one from Monsoon that I ended up selling. The monsoon was was incredibly long, I think they make them to fit v tall women and then others can get them shortened.

Already mentioned, but seconding both Ghost and Rixo - slightly different budgets but both have lovely options and quick delivery.

Wed2b they have loads of dresses you just turn up and take it home that day/

I wouldn’t recommend this one. Their alterations were not good and their seamstresses aren’t always available.

@ElSomum For something modern and a decent resale value on vinted post wedding, have a look at Nadine Merabi and Self portrait. Just get a local seamstress to adjust if needed. I hope she finds what she’s looking for.

Can I just add you don’t need a “‘wedding dress “ you need an outfit for a wedding. It can be a dress or a suit or anything she wants. I do think that Jenny Packham dress above is gorgeous and great value for the money. There will be other dresses out there which will work. Good luck.

My goddaughter got married in June and her dress was beautiful. It was from Debenhams online, I was amazed. She only needed the hem taking up a little, so pretty, it also had pockets 🤗

Yes I was going to say monsoon. Phase8 also do some but they might be a bit old fashioned for her. Wed2be also do some take away dresses. Did nobody say to your Dd that they didn't like the dress or was everyone in agreement it was nice?

Many many years ago there were specific sample sales but also most shops had a selection of samples that you could choose from rather than order. Mine was a sample. So maybe worth calling a few to ask.
