Wedding in 4 weeks, still need a cake

Just that really 😂

We’re having a registry office wedding followed by private area booked at a nice pub. My original plan was to have something like this delivered direct to the pub the day before

https://www.patisserie-valerie.co.uk/products/pink-ombre-rosette-cake

but the pub are saying they don’t have the fridge space to store it overnight.

I don’t really want to spend more than £150, but I do want a cake and I do want it to look a bit wedding-y. I’ve already bought a personalised Mr&Mrs cake topper.

I don’t want cupcakes or anything like that because I always imagined having that “cut the cake” moment. Although now I’m starting to wonder if it’s even worth all the stress for that little moment.

any suggestions? Xx

M&S do lovely cakes

EternallyIrked · 22/08/2024 09:25

Vanilla Two Tier Naked Cake (Serves 36) | M&S (marksandspencer.com)

How about something like this? you could add some fresh flowers and your topper and I think it'd look lovely.

I had a similar wedding recently. I got mine from Costco. They do large white cakes. Can order and pick up. And it was about £15!

Butwhybecause · 22/08/2024 09:26

But you'll need to order it asap!

TayceOnToast · 22/08/2024 09:27

sorry forgot to add…I don’t want to make/decorate my own cake or ask anyone to make it either. Ideally I want something that is deliverable or collectable ready to go.

Another vote for M&S here and yes, with notice they can deliver in the morning.

StarryDance · 22/08/2024 09:29

Costco do amazing cakes.

TayceOnToast · 22/08/2024 09:30

Also I want it to be at least two-tier otherwise it doesn’t feel like a wedding cake to me 🙈

Order from M&S and get your florist to make a small arrangement to go on top if you want more decoration. The pub should be able to pop it on for you.

Talipesmum · 22/08/2024 09:31

I don’t think you’d absolutely have to have fridge space for that, if you had a large cool box of some sort? It needs to slowly defrost in a cool place. Maybe a large polystyrene box?

Rebootnecessary · 22/08/2024 09:33

Another vote for the 2 tier M&S naked cake. These are excellent cakes and really easy to bung some flowers or fruit on to make it look weddingy.

TayceOnToast · 22/08/2024 09:34

Thank everyone! I think the M&S suggestion might be good…I have seen this cake before on my searches and I do like it. Only reason I didn’t like it was because it needs “work” to look finished but in reality it wouldn’t take much.

Wasn’t expecting so many quick responses!! 🙏

Still open to any other suggestions!

Does it need refrigeration?

Most buttercream / icing cakes don’t. It isn’t fresh cream as far as I can see?

Store it yourself and drop it off? Or get it delivered to a helpful friend or family who does that?

longdistanceclaraclara · 22/08/2024 09:37

Can you get a friend to driver it in the morning before the wedding. My cake was refrigerated though.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 22/08/2024 09:45

We had two (or three?) of the smaller cake cos I wanted a decorated one. The caterer just swapped the new one in as the first one was cut up!

TayceOnToast · 22/08/2024 09:55

I guess I’m struggling with logistics too

Our ceremony is 10:30-11:00 and the pub isn’t staffed until 9:30am, so getting anything to the pub before the ceremony is tight. Then after the ceremony it’s straight to the pub (5min away). I have asked my mum and sister to do a mad dash immediately after the ceremony ends to sort out room decorations/cake etc before guests arrive at the pub (will try to stall them until 12:00 with mingling and photos etc.)

Would the M&S cake need to be kept in the fridge overnight if collected the day before? Is it insane to consider collecting it same day?

We had an m&s cake for our wedding. My mum picked it up the day before and took it to the venue on the morning of the wedding. We had 3 different sizes of white iced cakes and she bought ribbon and dowels to stack them plus I had cake toppers. I don't think she kept them in the fridge overnight, we never normally keep cakes in the fridge.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 22/08/2024 10:08

I think it would be fine in a cool box overnight, with ice packs.

I think the traditional ones with thick white icing are fine to not be in the fridge but not sure about the type linked about, looks more like buttercream?

Ask on local WhatsApp groups if anyone knows a cake maker I got a great tiered bday cake from a local maker who delivered it - then just ask for it to be wedding themed

WinkyTinky · 22/08/2024 12:02

If you're worried about refrigeration, have you got anyone who can collect on the day? If your florist can make a little topper you can just stick it on when you put it in place at the venue. But tbh, as you alluded to in your first post, it's only a few seconds of the day when you cut the cake, and I really don't think anyone take any notice of what it looks like. It's more a little symbolic ritual than anything else. I wish we hadn't faffed about so much with ours, it was covered in Maltesers and they just fell off and shot everywhere when we cut into it!

tinklingchimes · 22/08/2024 12:05

Can it be delivered the morning of? I delivered a wedding cake to someone the morning of the wedding, just straight to it's place on the table.

Restaurantcritic · 22/08/2024 12:32

I had that m and s cake. It’s really good cake. Doesn’t need a fridge. We bunged on some decorations ourself. It was delicious

DM look up cheese wedding cake! My DSis did one and everyone loved it. They did this idea with a cheese and wine party the next day to carry on the celebrations.
