Wedding favours

I'm not sure we are going to bother with favours but I wondered if anyone had ever had any decent wedding favours? Outside of something edible

Lottery scratch card… ‘we’ve been so lucky, we want to pass it on’
with enough guests, odds are someone will win something

ForUmberFinch · 19/05/2024 12:08

Personally I don’t get the point in wedding favours. We didn’t have any and nobody noticed or complained! We had a table top Ferris wheel filled with retro sweets and personalised paper bags. I counted those as our favours

mitogoshi · 19/05/2024 12:12

Don't do personalised as it's a lot of expense that no one else will want. Leaving a decent truffle or two on each place setting is far better if you want something.

I suppose the "best" favour we had was a bar of homemade soap each, it was good soap, we got 4 anyway as 4 of us then kids scooped up many more off the empty tables as we were helping them clean up that the bride told them to keep, didn't buy soap for about a year

User1979289 · 19/05/2024 12:13

Don't bother - loads are always left on the tables.

longdistanceclaraclara · 19/05/2024 12:54

We had scratch cards which was a bit of fun. It was a long time ago, I think two people won £5.

IME most stuff gets left on the tables and binned.

BusyMintCrab · 19/05/2024 12:56

You could do a donation to charity instead? I’ve seen that a few times and think it’s nice. I rarely take the favour home!

JustAnotherManicMomday · 21/05/2024 20:45

I am going for personalised mirrors with each person's name on for the women and bottle openers shaped like trucks for the men as fh is a lorry driver. Doing sweet cones for the kids. Only issue is something as a thankyou for my 2 teen sons and our 11yo nephew.

Mrburnshound · 21/05/2024 20:46

We got little lego people once. Before tidying away i scooped them all up and my DC were v pleased

PandaG · 21/05/2024 20:49

Tiny cactus in a pot, which had name flag stuck in the pot, so name card and favour, and table decor at the same time. I particularly liked this as I like plants!

Our wedding was over 30 years ago, but we didn't bother with any

Est1990 · 12/06/2024 09:20

The best/most useful I 'received' was a donation to a kids charity from the couple (on the guests behalf).

We ordered the newspapers with guests curiosities, wedding facts, order of the day. We thought it was a bit different and I'm looking forward to see the result...but the guests Will probably look at it for 5 mins and then leave it on the tables😆

toastofthetown · 12/06/2024 09:24

Something immediately edible are the best kind of wedding favours. It’s dealt with at the time and it means I don’t need to lug around both mine and DH’s in my already small bag. I used to work at a wedding venue and I saw so many thoughtful favours where effort has clearly gone in, but 75% of them were still left behind on the tables. The ones which disappeared were food or drink guests could consume at the table.

Favouritefruits · 12/06/2024 09:37

I gave everyone a lottery ticket then in the evening we paused the band and read out the winning numbers, it was lots of fun and added a little excitement.

BettyBardMacDonald · 12/06/2024 09:46

The world doesn't need more tat.

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 12/06/2024 09:50

We did a donation to charity in honour of my favourite uncle who had died recently. My friend is getting married in August and I'm making limencello which will be in little bottles for everyone to have a shot (if they wish) - knowing her friends/family this will go down well. Honestly though I don't think you need to bother unless you have a particular urge to do one - don't do one for just for the sake of it!

LMMuffet · 12/06/2024 10:08

Don’t think they are necessary, but if you want to have them it’s nice to have something people will really use.

At our wedding we had little boxes at each place setting containing a key ring with a slim bottle opener with our names and the date subtly engraved on them.

Last year at a picnic we needed a bottle opener for the beers and 3 people whipped out their bottle opener key rings - they were still using the key rings we’d given out as favours - 10 years ago! I think the reason they use them is that they are not novelty ones, nor is the engraving very obvious - they are practical and (reasonably) stylish.

We are donating to Heart UK; my partners brother died a few months ago at 36 due to their heart condition. Seemed right for us; I feel wedding favours can sometimes cost a lot and they aren't really worth it!

JumpstartMondays · 12/06/2024 10:13

Scratch card

Wildflower seed packet

Charity donation

A token for a drink at the bar

I went to a summer wedding and the favours were flip flops! With a note on the menfolk spaces that said (in a beautiful rhyming phrase that I've forgotten) that your favour is flipflops for the ladies so you don't have to carry them or listen to them complain when their shoes hurt!

AgMaggy · 12/06/2024 10:13

We have a donation to charity instead

Psychologymam · 12/06/2024 10:18

We did this - I can’t really remember any favours from weddings so we made donation to a charity close to our hearts - they gave us little cards to put on our table in lieu of favours which also highlighted the work they do.

starsinyourpies · 12/06/2024 10:49

I wasn't going to do any but Italian relatives insisted on little bags of five sugared almonds which went down well (and symbolise love, health, happiness, fertility and wealth).

Grrrpredictivetex · 12/06/2024 10:51

We did pins from our favourite charities. Most people took them home but either way the charity won.

CJ0374 · 12/06/2024 11:58

Home-made Christmas crackers with different seed packets inside- sunflower etc
Scratchcard
Charity donation

Anything personalised is just more expense, often tat and naff. Any reason you DON'T want something edible? You don't NEED favours.
I bought chocolate, melted it and added various fillings- mixed fruit, coconut, cherries etc and put into silicone moulds. Each guest got a little selection and none were left on the tables. Poundland at the time had cake bags shaped like a bride and groom and made of cardboard- so they stood on the table. They were 10p each!

whenemmafallsinlove · 02/07/2024 01:24

We got small hessian draw string bags when dd got married. We drew a grid on the bag, filled it with 9 pebbles with their separate initials on and attached a tag. The idea was you played a version of noughts and crosses with the pebbles on the grid. It was fun and different but 140 guests, 9 pebbles and a bag each, it was a LOT to do.

KatPurrson · 02/07/2024 02:34

Miniatures of the whisky made in the same village as the church. There weren’t any left on the table.
