First dance & walking down the aisle songs?

What songs did you walk down the aisle to and what did you have your first dance to?
And why?
Did you have songs that meant something to you as a couple personally, or just songs that are romantic?

I don’t know if any of ‘our songs’ are really appropriate for either and I am trying to see how much that matters on the whole 🤔

We are rock fans so we had some Richie Sambora, Temperence Movement, Mr Big and Frankie Valli all songs that meant something to us.

ThePerfectDog · 19/01/2024 12:21

Youre so cool by Hans Zimmer (the theme from true romance) going in, Your love is lifting me higher on the way out.

Didn’t particularly think about or want a first dance but the DJ did play a first dance song, can’t remember what it was though.

Keep in mind that, unless you are getting married in Westminster Abbey, it will take you about 5 seconds to 'walk down the aisle' - for most songs that won't get you past the introduction. Or, if you stand at the back for that, the first line.

I got married in a Church with a relatively long aisle and we still had to stand at the back for ages before starting to walk really, really slowly, in order to get far enough into the music for people to be able to hear what it was. Smile

Fly me to the moon - aisle
Because you loved me - first dance

Normandy144 · 19/01/2024 13:10

I walked down the aisle to Hoppipola by Sigur Ros. We walked back up to Love is in the Air by John Paul Young and then first dance was Michael Bublé Everything. None in particular were "our song" but we did like them.

ShippingNews · 19/01/2024 13:18

I walked down to ABBA singing " I do, I do, I do".

HumerousHumous · 19/01/2024 13:22

The Trout by Schubert because I liked this piece of music and learnt it on the clarinet as a kid. It was only a few years later that DH confessed that all thought it hilarious Hmm

First song was This Night, Billy Joel. Great first dance song.

Fe2O3Girl · 19/01/2024 13:27

I walked in to “I wear your ring” by the Cocteau Twins.

We walked out to “We’ve only just begun” by the Carpenters.

Our first dance was to “You and Me Song” by the Wannadies.

All chosen because they were special to us.

Honestly I’ve always thought walking in/out to music in a registry office is just cringe. It’s always someone fluffing pressing play on the rickety old CD player and an abrupt stop because it only takes two seconds to walk across the registry office room. I would honestly rather have silence in that situation.

As it happens I’ll be sung down the aisle in the chapel by a friend doing one of my favourite Handel arias and out to Widor.

We had Cannon in D for walking in
You're my best friend by the Beatles for signing register and True Colours by Cyndi Lauper for first dance

karrliz · 19/01/2024 13:40

Harpist played Songbird by Fleetwood Mac as I walked down the isle (we are both huuuuge fans of FM and have always had them as a go-to in the kitchen or long drives)

First Dance, was How Deep is Your Love by Take That (we have just always liked this song since early days and said it's our song)

Each to their own, I would have hated that and cringed myself inside out.

But that’s a good thing, it would be boring if everyone was the same

chocomoccalocca · 19/01/2024 13:42

Down the aisle to the piano man version of thousand years, out to walking sunshine and first dance was Aerosmith. All songs we loved and felt like us.

Oakbeam · 19/01/2024 13:47

If you get married in a church, there’s a good chance you will walk up the nave, not down the aisle.

It doesn’t have quite the same ring to it though.

Yep. And ultimately, it’s your wedding, so you can do whatever tf you want 🤷🏼‍♀️

Canon in D for walking in, arrival of Queen of Sheba for walking out, It Had To Be You for first dance. All played live by our band, two of them did the music for the ceremony.

AliceMcK · 19/01/2024 14:16

My DH choose the music I walked down the aisle to. He choose something from Tchaikovsky, I can’t remember what it was but it was beautiful. DH has a classical music background. Our first dance was Can’t Help Falling in Love with you by Elvis, it’s our song, it was swiftly followed by Rockin Good way & Green Door as I love Shakin Steven’s.

Outnumberedbywillies · 19/01/2024 14:22

Walked down aisle to hoppipolla by sigur Ros, walked out to best day of our lives by American authors and first dance was one day like this by elbow

romdowa · 19/01/2024 14:26

I walked down the Isle to innisheer played on the harp. Simply because a friend of mines cousin was a harpest starting out doing weddings and I fell in love with the song
Our first dance was you are the sunshine of my life because its in an episode of red dwarf and we are huge fans 🤣🤣🙈🙈

SummaLuvin · 19/01/2024 14:27

I went to a wedding a few years ago that had Still The One - Shania Twain, it was lovely and a refreshing changing from very 'current' choices.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/01/2024 14:28

I walked down the aisle to Chicago by The Staves, I was struggling to think of that one then I heard it one night and I just thought it was perfect, words and music both. We signed the register to Heaven, DJ Sammy the candlelight remix (off the first cd babe bought me). We walked back down the aisle and out of the register office to Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. First dance was to Hey Ho by The Lumineers songs all personal to us and we brought DD (then 8) in to our first dance as we always said we would

Babe should have said DH 🤣. I do call him that but not on here lol. What a typo!!

BeaRF75 · 19/01/2024 14:45

Didn't have music to walk down the "aisle" as it was a Register Office and in those days (about a million years ago) the bride, groom and 2 witnesses were already in the room before the guests were called in. Thank goodness.
Also, no first dance as we didn't have an evening"do" - not fashionable then but I also think "thank goodness" about that too as I find first dances cringy.
But if you are getting married in church, I would expect something traditional and played "live", probably on the organ, as you go down the aisle both before and after the service. Remember that pop songs date terribly, and you might look back and wince.
Even in a secular venue, something with lyrics can backfire and just be too cheesy - what's wrong with a decent classical piece?
