First dance & walking down the aisle songs?

What songs did you walk down the aisle to and what did you have your first dance to?
And why?
Did you have songs that meant something to you as a couple personally, or just songs that are romantic?

I don’t know if any of ‘our songs’ are really appropriate for either and I am trying to see how much that matters on the whole 🤔

I had a church wedding and walked down the aisle to I Do, I Do, I Do by ABBA. Walked back down the aisle to All You Need Is Love by The Beatles.

Down - The book of love by Peter Gabriel
back - God only knows by the beach boys 😍

This is what we had to walk in. Proper 80's rock with a lot of hair but a really lovely song.

My first wedding:
Aisle Romeo & Juliet by Dire Straits
First dance Nothing else matters by Metallica

My second wedding:
Aisle Balcony Scene from Romeo & Juliet
Leaving The Shire by Howard Shore
No first dance as we eloped

Walked down the aisle to Walking On The Milky Way by OMD. It's a song we both like and listened to a lot especially in the early days of our relationship. I don't feel like you have to have sugary sweet love songs, it's about what you like. Signed the register to the Book of Love by Peter Gabriel and walked out to Rocking All Over the World by the Quo.

Didn't have a first dance, find them cringey.

We had a church wedding and the vicar convinced us to stick to the bridal match. I did like it actually, it felt really "proper" in the moment. For the signing of the register etc I honestly can't remember. Think we picked some nice classical music

First song was Chasing Cars which is cheesy but genuinely our song from v early on and I always smile when I hear it

I walked down the aisle to Hoppipola by Sigur Ros. We walked back up to Love is in the Air by John Paul Young and then first dance was Michael Bublé Everything. None in particular were "our song" but we did like them.

I also walked in to Hoppipola by Sigur Ros. Such a good choice! Had my 2 dd’s either side of me. It was lovely.

My fantasy was walking down to the guitar solo in Parisienne Walkways by someone with a live guitar. The vicar was not happy 😁😁.

Walked down the registry office aisle to "I Believe In Miracles" by the Jackson Sisters which was chosen as it's one of my favourite songs and a right banger. The lyrics in relation to this made me laugh a lot though! Timed it so we came in when they started singing. We walked in holding our son and daughter's hands (4 and 6 at the time) and they were grooving along. Makes me smile every time I think of it. This was in Marylebone Town Hall so a relatively nice aisle in the scheme of things.

Walked out to Ain't We Funkin Now by the Brother's Johnson.

First dance was to John I'm Only Dancing (Again) by David Bowie - but it was less a "first dance" than I changed my ipod playlist from the "drinking and dinner" to the "dancing about like mad" one so it was a packed dance floor of friends and family rather than just me and the husband (who cannot dance to save his life) stumbling around while everyone watched.

Our first dance song was a live version of I Will Follow You Into The Dark. Not great for dancing to, but it was what my mushy loved-up ass wanted.

I should’ve mentioned in the OP to walk down the aisle and back up (hadn’t even thought that we need a song for that too!) we won’t be playing the actual song, like a CD, we will be having a violinist playing the song
It’s just that most of the songs with any relevance for us are RnB songs so I didn’t know if it would be slightly … inappropriate? But there’s such a variety on here it doesn’t seem it would be 🙂

@SummaLuvin that was actually my mum & stepdads first dance song and I have suggested it as ours too, the lyrics are very appropriate as well have been together 18 years at the wedding!
So that brings up another question - would it be ok to use someone else’s first dance song? A nice tribute, or a bit rude??

Theres so much unspoken etiquette to weddings I’m so bloody worried everything we do will offend somebody!

At my first wedding, it was a register office but a big room so had a proper long aisle. I chose a red hot chilli peppers song as it was very me (old school rock) and calmed my nerves as it was so familiar. Our song while we signed the register was Bach and walking back the aisle was a deep house electronic favourite. Basically all the genres we loved. Absolutely no one else cared and they'd have to be ill mannered gits to get offended at someone's wedding choices anyway.

Theres some really beautiful RnB songs so got for one that has meaning to you.

Im eloping this time but we will still play music as we walk in together and sign the register. Not decided yet.

I was married in a church in Denmark (where I am from)

We went traditional

Lohengrin by wagner to walk in (bridal chorus/here comes the bride)

Air on a g string midway through

Out to Mendleshons wedding March

In Denmark there is a traditional wedding waltz everyone uses "Brudevalsen by N Gade" traditionally the people around them join in a circle clap along and make the circle smaller and smaller until the couple has no room. They do this to symbolise the support and love they will give the married couple in their journey.

It has to be done before midnight too.
