Wedding make up - false eyelashes?

ShellUK09 · 08/06/2023 09:39

I had my bridal hair and make up trial yesterday. I'm not used to wearing false eyelashes and she used some natural ones on me yesterday. Half way through the trial something didn't feel right and I said I thought the eye lash was coming off slightly on one eye, which it was! This doesn't give me a lot of confidence for the day...

So my question is should I just shop around for some extra strong false eye lash glue and go with the falsies? Or should I go for lash extensions? Or a tint and lift? This is a whole new world for me so apologies for being naive! Also the false eye lashes she used were very natural, almost a bit too natural as I usually like volume mascaras and I like a thick lash, although I don't want the lashes to look overly ridiculous like some false eyelashes can.

Any advice about lashes and the best types of false lash would be much appreciated. Our wedding isn't until October so I've got plenty of time to think about lashes and hopefully get it right.

Hi there, @ShellUK09 we have moved your thread over to Weddings, as requested. We hope that helps and best of luck with your wedding plans. Flowers

I went with lash extensions on my wedding day. If you go with classics they aren't obvious.

ilovemydogmore · 08/06/2023 13:29

When are you getting married?

If you have time, test out the lash lift and tint now.

Honestly if you aren't used to wearing extensions or falsies, this will give the extra subtle impact you might be looking for.

toomuchfaster · 08/06/2023 13:30

Don't wear them if you're not sure. I had a light make-up that made me look like me on my best day. And none of it moved, melted or rubbed off as it wasn't over the top.

ShellUK09 · 08/06/2023 14:36

Thanks everyone!

@ilovemydogmore We are getting married in October so about 4 months to go now. I am leaning towards the lash lift and tint now. It just feels risky wearing false lashes when they could just fall off! I think I would panic and struggle to get them back on, even though I could just take some glue with me. Or they might not fall off at all!

@toomuchfaster yeah I just want to look like me but a bit more glam than I usually look.

@mummyh2016 I'm going to have a look around the local salons and see what reviews are like as it would be much easier having extensions although don't think I will keep them up after the wedding.

I got extensions for mine. I don’t normally wear false lashes and I didn’t keep them up afterwards. They looked brilliant but I got them a couple of times in the lead up to the wedding to get used to them.

Bunny2021 · 08/06/2023 14:45

I would definitely have a trial of lash extensions - there are lots of different types so you can decide how you want them to look. I went with a hybrid (three lashes to every one natural lash) so that it was more than the classic (which is one lash to every one natural lash) and not too curly.

Just make sure you go to a reputable place and do a patch test first. My lash lady used to do patch tests by putting one lash on the eye. That makes so much more sense than behind the ear as your eyes are much more sensitive.

Unfortunately I couldn’t go for a lash lift as I had a reaction to one of the products during the patch test but lash extensions I was completely fine with.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 08/06/2023 15:55

I've just had a lash lift yesterday and really happy with the result! Couldn't have the 'tint' bit because I'm allergic to the dye so make sure you get a patch test!!!

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 08/06/2023 16:00

This is mine with just the 'lift' and a coat of black mascara.

@Pollywoddles Ah so it seems I will definitely need a patch test, I am often allergic to hair dyes so I am anticipating being allergic to the tint or the lift. @Bunny2021 wow hybrid lashes sound great!
@FatAgainItsLettuceTime glad you are pleased with the lash lift! It looks excellent, like you have expertly curled your lashes. Was it an uncomfortable experience getting it done or was it fine?

I'm interested to hear if anyone has used normal strip false lashes to their wedding, if so which ones did you go for and did it all go well on the day?

@ShellUK09 it was actually really relaxing. I've never had any beauty treatments done except the odd haircut about twice a year so wasn't sure what to expect.

I laid on a treatment bed with my eyes closed while they applied various things, none of which were uncomfortable, and just waited and I nearly dozed off a couple of times. I think it took about 30 minutes overall.

OneHundredOtters · 08/06/2023 17:33

Get the little individual falsies rather than a strip, they are more natural and if you lose one it won't matter

ALittleBitAlexa · 10/06/2023 22:07

I had strip lashes on my wedding day last weekend. I usually get a tint and lift (LVL) but was advised not to do this before the strip lashes as it can make them sit funny. They looked great, far more glam than my normal lift. I don't know what brand I used as the MUA did them for me - it sounds like you need to go back to your MUA to tell her you weren't happy with the lashes and discuss your options. Were you happy with the rest of the makeup? Sometimes the MUA isn't a good fit, I had one booked over a year in advance and changed supplier after my trial because it just wasn't working.

My MUA put the glue on the lash and let it sit for a couple of minutes to let it go tacky before she applied it - something like that might help? Mine stayed on all day in 20+ degree heat.

ShellUK09 · 11/06/2023 10:01

@ALittleBitAlexa ah really, sounds like strip lashes are still worth considering! I do like the glam look of strip lashes, I just worry about them sliding off as I have quite oily lids. I am wondering if it is worth buying my own extra strong glue for the MUA to use and even my own lashes that I have practiced with. I know you shouldn't have to do this though when paying for a MUA but it would make me feel like I have a bit more control!

I did like the rest of the make up but the lips weren't right so I said I wanted to change that on the day, the matte liquid lip colour she used felt so drying although it did look great when photographed. Again I may do some research and shop around for the right lipstick!

OP I have (and love) a lash lift and tint, but if you're having a full face of makeup I really think falsies/extensions would look better (more for volume than definition) in the photos.

Have you considered individual false lashes? That way if one falls off it's far less noticeable?

Lcb123 · 11/06/2023 10:58

Don’t wear them if you’re not sure. I used those individual lashes for my wedding as only wanted a subtle look. They lasted well all day and were very nice looking

ALittleBitAlexa · 11/06/2023 12:54

@ShellUK09 yeah do it. I took my own concealer to my second trial and wedding day as I have a birthmark and nothing covers as well as the one I use. It's best to be sure you'll look and feel your best, and you have plenty time to try different things

ShellUK09 · 12/06/2023 15:07

@Lcb123 @ginoclocksomewhere individual lashes have always scared me as they look even harder to get right when applying them, I've never tried them before though so maybe I'll get some cheap ones to practice! I agree false lashes are the best way to give you the glam look I'm after.

@ALittleBitAlexa yeah I will do, you're right you have to be happy on the day 🙂

Bunny2021 · 12/06/2023 16:15

@ShellUK09 I've personally never got on with individuals when applying myself. Personally I would try extensions - you then know you don't have to worry about them falling off during the day/getting stressed applying them etc.

Campervangirl · 12/06/2023 16:34

I can't get on with the flash lashes, they tend to peal off/lift.
I've also had a lash lift and tint which was rubbish, it only looks good if you've got long lashes to start with.
I now have lash extensions, they're fab, not too long or too full.
Everyone says they don't look fake.
I'd have a practice set first, do a shout out on sm for recommendations.
At least they'll last through your honeymoon if you're having one

ThatFraggle · 12/06/2023 16:36

100% lash extensions. Get a trial run now. Go for the natural ones that than the big butterfly ones.

ThatFraggle · 12/06/2023 16:36

100% as in 100% do it.

twizzlesx · 12/06/2023 16:41

I had strip lashes for wedding and would defo say go for strip lashes, they will show up way more in photos than just a lash lift, your MUA should be able to apply them so they don't come off - if she can't that's a problem with the MUA and may be worth getting another one

MrsFionaCharming · 12/06/2023 22:38

I had a tint and lift for my 6, I loved the result. My own lashes just better, which was the ‘style’ I was going for. It also meant I had great lashes my whole honeymoon, even in the pool.

Dinnaehinksae · 12/06/2023 22:46

I use lash ribbons, basically it's like a lash extension you do at home. I tend to find them last about a week so not the same commitment as actual lash extensions but not the faff of false lashes either. They may be a good compromise worth looking at at least. There's loads of different styles and lengths depending on which look you're going for. Plenty time to practise putting them on between now and then also.
