I’ve booked our registrar for 1pm - what time would you then have food?

I'd move the registrar to later in the day if you can only afford one main meal, we got married at 4pm and still fed guests at 5pm and then again around 9pm, I think 1pm weddings are a LONG day for a lot of people and also costs more to keep people fed/not too drunk/not bored.

Yes, this is a majr consideration. Feeding and watering guests over 11 hours will cost you a lot more than doing it over 6 or 7 hours.

If you want to stretch out the day for yourself, how about a small luncheon before the ceremony, just for yourselves, immediate family and the attendants?

then have ceremony at 3 or 4, and proceed to drinks, canapes, dinner etc. so most guests won't be in for a nearly 12-hour day?
