Favours or not?

Do people still do wedding favours for their guests? I'm unsure on what to do. Every wedding I've been to I've rarely taken the wedding favour home. Thanks in advance :)

Yes, all the weddings we’ve been too they’ve done favours and we did them too. Bit rude to not take them home after someone has made the effort to do them.

Twizbe · 25/04/2022 10:54

I think people still do them.

Tbh though the best ones are either edible or games for the table / scratch cards. We did kinder eggs which is a nice mix of both.

A lot of other ones are just useless tat.

Yeah, but at the same time I don't need a shot glass with the bride and groom's name on it ....

littlegingerone · 25/04/2022 10:57

We aren't doing them for our wedding, it's just personal choice really I think...They aren't something I ever particularly treasure from the day at other people's weddings and, when I've said to already married friends that we're not bothering, they've all said "yeah don't bother, ours were just left on the tables and got thrown away". But I think if it's something you really like, do them :)

fairgame84 · 25/04/2022 10:59

I did personalised m&m's in a heart bauble. They went down a treat.

Gensola · 25/04/2022 11:00

I’m not doing them - going to put the money behind the bar instead!

HavfrueDenizKisi · 25/04/2022 11:05

Honestly - your guests won't care either way. We never bothered and we had a very 'proper' wedding. It's just another cost in a long line of costs for a wedding. Totally unnecessary.

But if you think it's important to you then go ahead. You spend a lot of time agonising over minute decisions for a wedding that you barely notice on the day. And that's the truth.

MemoryLikeASieve1 · 25/04/2022 11:07

I didn't bother for my wedding!
I decided to get the upgraded drinks package, which I think everyone appreciated and the favours were not missed!

You're right thinking about it, it was quite rude not to take them home but by the end of the night I was probably to drink to remember to pick the favour up 🤣

I think they're dying out tbh, more and more people aren't doing them. However, we did them and I loved ours. They were wildflower seeds, wrapped in patterned material which we then gave to my mum to use in a quilt. Personal choice I think but I think they're a lovely touch, as long as it's not just rubbish. Edible stuff always goes down well too.

I'm thinking maybe scratch cards too or maybe a charity donation. Xx

I feel this so much. If I would have known it would be this stressful I think I would have got married in a registry office and just had a lovely honeymoon.

I never bothered at my wedding 17 years ago. I spent the money on extra drinks for all the guests.

Favours are a total waste of money and often entirely unappreciated.

user47 · 25/04/2022 11:16

I asked quite a lot of people what mattered at a wedding. They said:
Make sure there is enough food
Free drink
Brides dress
Not lots of waiting between service and reception
Somewhere to sit down

So that is what we focused on. No one gives a shit about favours so I wouldn't bother. if they want a keepsake there is the order of service and we gave the table decs/flowers to DM/MIL etc as well as presents.

MarpleFan · 25/04/2022 11:25

I'm a wedding planner and it's definitely something which doesn't happen anywhere near as much as it used to. As others have said, spend the money on another aspect which will enhance the day rather than something which people often just forget to take home anyway. In my experience, guests really don't expect to receive favours these days.

Grumpsy · 25/04/2022 11:29

We did little jars of local honey - to be honest a lot were left over - so it probably wasn’t worth the expense

Favouritefruits · 25/04/2022 11:33

I did lottery tickets as favours, no waste and the numbers got read out on the day to see if we had any winners (there was none) I’m not keen on tat or waste the lottery tickets went down a storm!

Pyri · 25/04/2022 11:38

I definitely wouldnt bother, more money behind the bar is good

NegativeNelly · 25/04/2022 11:45

we technically didn't but I hand made our name placements on a leaf mould and spray painted it and put in resin. I thought that it could be a favour for people to take them home, some people didn't take them though. I personally always felt favours were a waste of time, no one takes them and sometimes they're expensive. But it's entirely your decision and your budget and time
