Separate wedding dress for evening?

Did you change to a separate wedding dress for your evening do? I have a lovely fancy dress for the day but it has several layers of skirt and a train, and I'm wondering about changing for the evening to something more practical (but still fancy).

No but I wish I did

TottersBlankly · 04/02/2022 09:08

I would, if the opportunity arrived! (🙄)

Shall we help you look?

LizziesTwin · 04/02/2022 09:10

Wear your stunning dress for the whole day, you won’t have another opportunity to wear it.

SilverHairedCat · 04/02/2022 09:11

Nope. I wanted to get the most out of my enormous princess dress! It had a catch for the skirt to loop up though.

LizziesTwin · 04/02/2022 09:12

Often you can remove layers & the train (unless you’ve gone for Royal Family train length).

CharacterForming · 04/02/2022 09:14

I changed into a short simple white dress. The assistant who sold it to me misunderstood and said "ooh you can't wear a white dress to a wedding!" until I explained that I was actually the bride.

YeOldePotato · 04/02/2022 09:14

I guess it depends how heavy the dress is. I got absolutely exhausted wearing mine all day and night.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/02/2022 09:16

No but had a very simple dress.

I’d change after photos into something you’re comfortable in. Don’t think it needs to be another “wedding” dress.

Hoppinggreen · 04/02/2022 09:17

I had my dress made. It was pale gold but with a white chiffon over skirt/train and shrug
I took the extra bits off and spent the evening in what was effectively a good evening dress.
I think changing in the evening can be a good idea if you want to be comfy or fancy a change

Hoppinggreen · 04/02/2022 09:17

GOLD evening dress not good

Blueuggboots · 04/02/2022 09:23

I didn't but a friend did. She had a lovely wedding dress but changed into a more practical, but still pretty dress for dancing in.

Yes I'm half thinking this, just undecided!🤔

I had 2! A white number for the day and a gorgeous purple number for the evening. I did also have 2 wedding cakes...

I'm worried about using the toilet as I'll have to take someone with me 🤣🤣

Yes, I changed just after the evening do started. My dress had a huge train & I wanted to dance.

oncemoreunto · 04/02/2022 15:22

I did.

I had a lovely vintage 1940's dress for the day.
It was formal and quite delicate. Lace overdress with small train and satin undress.

I had a modern two piece for the evening, strapless and more fun. It was much more robust.

I really enjoyed having two different styles.

Pootles34 · 04/02/2022 15:22

You don't need to take someone with you - mine was enormous, you just go in facing forwards - as if you're riding a horse! Hitch the front bit up, you'll be fine Grin

I do wish i'd gone to touch my make up up before the evening do, however, so I think there's definitely something to be said for a freshen up!

Artesia · 04/02/2022 15:28

No. I have to say it seems a bit nuts to me, buying a gorgeous and hugely expensive dress then only wearing it for a few hours and changing out of it at the first opportunity. I’d rather find a gorgeous but less impractical dress and wear it all day and evening.

SilverHairedCat · 04/02/2022 16:30

My skirt and train was massive. Peed by myself thanks!

Honestly, all you do is scoop it up, hold it turned inside out around your waist (bottom layer used to hold the rest in basically) so it can't slip down and that's it.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 04/02/2022 16:43

I had a silk slip dress with a lace over coat/over lay which I wore for the day then took off the outer bit for dancing so just had a really simple dress that I didn’t worry about spilling wine down! The lace bit was vintage and a bit more delicate

TurretGunner · 04/02/2022 16:48

Often you can remove layers & the train Rip it off like the BucksFizz woman and her skirt. I'm old, you probably won't remember.

girafferafferaffe · 04/02/2022 16:55

I didn't but I wished to death I had! My dress was beautiful but not good for sitting and eating or dancing!

girafferafferaffe · 04/02/2022 16:56

Oh and yes! Going to the toilet! I had to take the entire thing off and then get back in. Was not ideal!
