Unusual favours

Hi,

I know there were several threads discussing favours but I wonder if anyone has any fresh ideas. I am trying to think of ways to make the wedding memorable for its fun and unusual details. Changing the traditional reception table layouts, playing about with ceremony seating etc. So I would like the favours to be something quirky too, if possible, ones that our guests will actually want to take.

We don’t have a theme as such, just a specific colour scheme.

Chocolates, drink bottles, mini plants, mints- all so commonly done, it sounds boring to me. And some of it too random, like tea bags??

I don’t like a charity donations idea either- I actually want guests to have a physical thank you gift.

Any ideas?

Scratch cards?

Although tbf I never keep wedding favours and think they're such a waste of money.

CMOTDibbler · 31/01/2020 17:25

Don't bother. No one really cares about favours, so save your money for drinks or nice after dinner chocs

My favours for a wedding with 90 guests cost £20. They were small packets of sweets. The kids we had at the wedding (2 out of the 5) decided to minesweep the ones left on the table and sell them back to (the very drunk) guests. They made over £20 each. Best wedding favours ever, not because of what they were, but because of the hilarity that they caused!!

People won't remember favours. Not worth the money. However fun and original you think they are, they'll get left on the tables and forgotten about. Put the money towards something else instead!

AudacityOfHope · 31/01/2020 17:32

Nobody wants favours. Men have nowhere to carry them, and women carry tiny bags to weddings. Save your money for something lovely, like a bottle of champagne on your honeymoon.

yogo · 31/01/2020 17:33

Without being offensive, no one wants a keepsake of your wedding to keep for years to come.

Just get sweets or something.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 31/01/2020 17:33

Waste of time and money imo.

Decent food and plenty of booze and no hanging around cold and hungry is what makes a good wedding

MrsMoastyToasty · 31/01/2020 17:35

The only ones I have ever remembered from a wedding was where the bride had baked each guest a large biscuit and iced it with our names so it doubled as a place marker.and I ate it before we were served our starters

MrsKipling16 · 31/01/2020 17:36

Not a “gift” as such, although both weddings that I went to that did this I did keep mine as did everyone else on the table - our place names (so saves you another job too) were a Polaroid of each person with either the bride or groom. No favours in addition to the place name. Lovely personal touch!

At another wedding, the favour was a CD of the music from the wedding (the song the bride walked down the aisle to, the song that was playing whilst they signed the register, the first dance, their individual favourite songs, etc.).
The cover of the CD was all of the names of the people that went to the wedding - done very artistically, although I’ve probably not done it justice in how I just described it!!

Not sure how many people have CD players now, or how expensive/time consuming this might be - different though!

Went to a winter wedding where we had crackers on the table - scratch cards for men and crystal snowflake tree decoration for women. Still use the tree decoration.

MovingBriskyOn · 31/01/2020 17:51

It will be meaningful if its "real".

If you're arty, create something. If you cook, cook something... If you have a specific interest or speciality, allude to it.

Anything you google would be less authentic. Just make it something actually from the bride or groom

QueenofDestruction · 31/01/2020 17:54

Disposable camera to take pictures at the wedding

Elieza · 31/01/2020 17:58

I still have a hand decorated tea light votive and candle with personalised ribbon with bride and grooms names and wedding date on it from a wedding over a decade ago.

The mini whisky my bf got was drunk at the wedding.

Both happy with our favours!

However since bf and I split, he got custody of the friends (they were his to start with, I was a +1) so I no longer see them. Still like the candle though!

Purpleartichoke · 31/01/2020 17:58

We had a Christmas time wedding. We made tiny wreaths from jingle bells. The right size to hang on a door knob, but could also be a tree bauble. Fifteen years later, I know many of them are still using them.

One of those dice with different sexual positions on it ,some lube and a condom in a little pouch ,keep them all busy later

OneMoreLight · 31/01/2020 18:09

Drink token for the bar.

polkadotpj · 31/01/2020 18:11

I want a Christmas wedding now!

Cyberve · 31/01/2020 18:26

What about candles?

Cyberve · 31/01/2020 18:26

Oh or I've seen people doing like test tubes filled with tea or stuff for hot chocolate. You could do something like that?

FernBritanica · 31/01/2020 18:31

Christmas tree baubles sound cute for a Christmas wedding but otherwise I agree with PPs that they're a bit of a waste..

A friend of mine did wildflower seeds which is not particularly unusual but I did like. I sowed them too early though and none came up Blush

starsinyourpies · 31/01/2020 18:39

Another one for 'don't bother'! Plenty of things to spend money on at a wedding and it's always a shame to see them all left.

SallyLovesCheese · 31/01/2020 18:44

I remember the wedding where the favours were tokens for the bar. I thought that was a good touch - generous and useful, yet no obligation to take them home! Best bit was people used them to put into the sweepstake on how long the speeches would last Grin

Love the Polaroid idea!

We had mini chocolate frogs (I'm a HP fan but it wasn't a themed wedding) but we didn't have a table plan and it was a buffet so they were just on a side table and people could help themselves. I think the children ate most of them Smile

ThatLibraryMiss · 31/01/2020 19:39

What about charity scratch cards from a local charity? It's a tangible item that combines a charity donation with the possibility of winning a few quid.

muddypuddles12 · 31/01/2020 19:50

I made homemade scented candles for the women as my wedding favours with personalised labels (again, printed at home on clear sticky back plastic) for each female guest. Male guests were given cigars.

Dividednation · 31/01/2020 19:53

Literally no-one cares about favours. Put the money behind the bar.
