Non-revealing wedding dress

Hi,

I’ve started looking at dresses and wonder if anyone can suggest good places to go for them online. The criteria are:

-white
-floor length
-under £100 (because I can’t spend more on an outfit I will only wear once)
-traditional rather than sexy (so no deep cleavage/push up thing)
-one where I could actually wear a bra! I definitely need one for my chest and every dress I have seen so far is either strapless, has a deep back or full lace top so in any of them even clear straps would show.

I have checked out Chi Chi London and Ever Pretty so far. Any other similar websites? I have always planned to order my dress from China, but having seen a few expectation vs reality photos, I would rather not waste my time, unless I can return it easily.

Thanks!

try bride2bride. they are second hand wedding dresses but the majority of them have only been worn once and are in really good condition

StrongInside · 03/09/2019 14:02

Sleepismysuper1, I feel put off by wearing something that I can’t throw in a washing machine second-hand. Otherwise that would have been a bargain.

Does anyone know what happened to Asapbay (Lindabridal) on ebay? It had cheap dresses and great reviews from real UK brides.

Dorothy Perkins has a good selection under £100 - I don’t know how good they look in real life but easy enough to send back if you don’t like them.

Asos has a lot around £120, nice designs but you’re right a lot of them are not compatible with a normal bra. One or two may be though if you sift through.

H&M has this one which you could easily dress up with a ribbon sash or sparkly belt if you wanted.

Skinnydogfatcat1 · 03/09/2019 14:13

Why on look on your local Facebook page, there are often lots of offers on there.

MrsRufusdog789 · 03/09/2019 17:26

Ordering from China is easy enough . Goods are often not as described and returns prohibitively expensive . Be careful x

CurbsideProphet · 03/09/2019 17:28

Dorothy Perkins, ASOS, H&M all have bridal ranges online for varying prices.

Yes there are wedding gowns Wall to wall on Marketplace . Some bridal salons will alter gowns not supplied by them .

lovemenorca · 03/09/2019 17:31

What size are you?

labazsisgoingmad · 03/09/2019 17:37

do try your local charity shops many have some lovely dresses i had a dress donated in mine that had cost nearly a £1000 last year and never worn. the bride who bought it had it for £50 a real bargain

ladyratterley · 03/09/2019 17:38

Have you looked on ASOS? They have a few that could fit the bill.

Most wedding dresses are fine to wash in the machine, OP. Do a search, it’s been talked about a few times!

mnahmnah · 03/09/2019 18:03

I saw this today and thought it might work?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have never had anything from H&M or ASOS that fit well, really weird sizing (and styles) for me, so never thought to try their dresses. I got it in my head that a dress from a well known seller like Landy Bridal or Millie Bridal in China would look prettier and have more elaborate detail (fuller skirt, lace etc.) than a high street dress but I haven’t looked long enough to make a comparison with the high street. Apparently, most bridal shop dresses come from China anyway, then heavily marked up.

I’m hardly ever on Facebook, but could have a look on Marketplace. Is it all just second-hand dresses there? How do I actually get onto the Marketplace to look for dresses?

Lovemenorca, I’m 12-14.

HJWT, is that website legit? That dress and the one from another PP from Debenhams look nice, the rest look a bit boho (is that the right name for that style?) and I can see them worn to a rustic-style wedding, but sadly I don’t think that style is for me.

Banivani, even the ones with sequins or delicate embroidery? I’m not convinced a long dress with a full skirt will fit into our machine.

Mnahmnah, thanks, it’s nice as a dress and I love that brand, but I would love something dressier with a fuller skirt.
Like this one maybe but with straps:

Search Butterflies Bridal on Facebook - they are a North East based wedding dress warehouse place - I got mine (Ronald Joyce Hayden) from there for £100 (2 sizes too big but paid a seamstress to fix that) Their sale dresses are all sample dresses for £100, usually reduced from Thousands.

Howmanysleepsnow · 05/09/2019 16:00

I ordered mine from China . It was perfect.

StrongInside · 06/09/2019 07:47

Banivani, wow, didn’t realise how many people wash their dresses! Good to know, although I would be less worried about the stains coming out (sounds like they do after a gentle wash) and more put off by someone else’s sweat on it (presumably it all washes out in a cold delicate wash though).

Thanks QforCucumber, will definitely have a look! I don’t care about the brand, as long as it’s cheap and looks good. How much can it cost to alter?

Howmanysleepsnow, which seller/shop did you order from? I often come across positive reviews like yours but no seller is specified and there are dozens of Chinese sellers out there.

@StrongInside In total my alterations cost £140, that was taking it up in the arms and at the bottom and reducing it from a 14 to a 10 (I couldn't believe how cheap as the dress has so much bead work) Means I got an £1800 dress for £240 total.

TOADfan · 06/09/2019 09:14

100 percent ASOS. Mine was £42 and £25 to alter it to fit perfect. Plus I wore a bra with it and it was so comfy.
Really outting but this one (though it was on sale when I got it): www.asos.com/asos-edition/asos-edition-lace-long-sleeve-crop-top-maxi-wedding-dress/prd/9639516?clr=white&colourWayId=15057512&SearchQuery=wedding%20dress

PeachScone · 06/09/2019 09:44

I got mine on chiChi, really great quality, not revealing and 95 pounds! www.chichiclothing.com/chi-chi-bridal-alix-dress/

They have a lot around the £100 mark definitely suggest having a look x

StrongInside · 06/09/2019 10:06

TOADfan, thanks, I just find ASOS styles aren’t for me. Not their normal clothes and not wedding dresses. Like with the one on your link, I wouldn’t want to show my midriff, however small part of it. But I’m sure it suits a lot of women.

PeachScone, I have had a look and I like a couple of them at the top but the skirts look too plain for my liking. Like, if it was a different colour, it wouldn’t be clear it’s a wedding dress, if you know what I mean.
