Engagement ring sizes

Hi all
My partner proposed to me on mother's day however the ring he got is far too big. We went back to the jeweller's and they not only don't do that ring in my size they don't do any ring in my size.

I am a UK size E which I think is classed as a children's size.

They said they would enquire with the manufacturer if they could make a special one off one but it has been two weeks and not heard a thing.

Does anyone know of any companies that make rings this size or should I just forgo the tradition of a ring.

We can't afford to spend hundreds or even thousands on a commission

Just get your ring resized?

I'm an I an just had a larger ring made smaller.

delilahbucket · 13/04/2019 19:40

My engagement ring had the first resize for free. Do you get that with yours?

Holds1 · 13/04/2019 19:48

Its six sizes too big so they said they can't resize. I have always struggled getting clothes etc but this I didn't expect

Jewellers can make rings, can you ring round locally and see who could make one?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 13/04/2019 19:52

Ooh this is your chance to design exactly what you’d like 🤗 and congratulations!

Crocky · 13/04/2019 19:53

I am a G. The jewellers usual order me in the smallest size that they do and then resize that. Worth asking if they can do it for your size. Or have a ring made for you.

bathorshower · 13/04/2019 20:00

Depending on the design, it may well need to be made specially - I'm an i, so small, but not tiny. We chose the ring together, and were told one would have to be made specially for me, they couldn't resize. Mine is an eternity style band, which would make resizing more difficult (the channel would fail). Having it made to fit was part of the service; if the ring is new I'm surprised that doesn't apply to you.

Holds1 · 13/04/2019 21:24

Crocky they said they would ask the manufacturer if they could make one but it will be two weeks on Monday and we haven't heard a thing

Hi there!

I'm also an E so I've been through all this - there are some High Street shops who if you ask can make you a ring in your size (I think Ernest Jones in particular). Also there are quite a few independent jewellery makers on Etsy who can custom make on for a not too dear price, especially if you're willing to branch out beyond the usual 'engagement ring' looking style.

Hope that helps!

WildFlower2019 · 14/04/2019 07:35

I had my wedding ring custom made by Orla James because I wanted a really super thin band and couldn't find one on the high street anywhere.

I really rate their service. You can order a free ring size guide and then you can order sample rings to "try" in cheap metal, which you keep for a week and then post back.

Might be an idea for your wedding ring if you're able to resize your engagement ring.

I think they might do resizing too!

x

Hi, he got me a pearl ring as I don't like diamonds and its my birth stone.
We will go back in (again) tomorrow to see. My frustration is they said they will ask if they can make one but we still have heard nothing

I’m surprised they can’t resize it, you might be best going to an independent jeweller. We have a local one who has halved the size of a ring for me, he’s great. Most places wouldn’t touch but the independent ones tend to

florence11 · 14/04/2019 10:28

It doesn't cost the earth to have a ring made to your own design. I found one I liked on Blue Nile, on there it was about £2,800 and a local jeweller made it for £2,500. I also got to see photos of it being handmade and it has so much sentimental value as a result.

RottnestFerry · 14/04/2019 10:44

My wife has small fingers. If you live near Birmingham, pay a visit to the jewellery quarter there. There are loads of firms there willing and able to make a ring to your own design.

You will pay considerably less for a custom made ring there than you what you will in a high street jeweller too. My wife's came in under their initial quote.

RottnestFerry · 14/04/2019 10:45

Too many 'theres'!

Holidayshopping · 14/04/2019 10:50

Tiny fingers here, too-I’ve never had any problems with independent jewellers resizing rings to fit me!

Keep trying.

RottnestFerry · 14/04/2019 11:55

Resizing is not easy if the ring is platinum. Compared to gold and silver, it's a very hard metal.

Holds1 · 15/04/2019 06:53

Hi all

Thank you for all the responses. I managed to find a few on etsy but they are all in us sizes and size e is about 3 different ones in America. We are going back to the shop again today as he only had 30 days to return it and they don't seem that interested in helping.

If its going to run into the hundreds or even thousands I will tell him not to bother

DobbysLeftSock · 15/04/2019 07:16

Sounds like you have found a particularly unhelpful jeweller! I would get it returned and refunded and go find something else. Start with "I'm a size e, what can you do?" before looking at specific rings OR go to someone to design and make your ring to size.

Holds1 · 15/04/2019 14:00

The ring went back. To be fair I am fed up of it by now so have given up

Would you like something like this? I got my wedding ring here and Lee changed the stone for a very reasonable price, as well as making my ring an E. They are absolutely beautiful designs too!

(Lots more designs on there with pearls and other stones)

LittleGreenLights · 15/04/2019 14:09

Why can’t you go to a jeweller and get one made? Much better value than high street chain stores.

Lonecatwithkitten · 15/04/2019 18:19

Another thing to consider if you are designing, a Pearl is not great in an everyday ring as they are soft and many settings will struggle to hold the pearl in way that is robust enough for daily wear.
Photo one is a modern setting from which a pearl can easily be lost as the claws do not come over the curve and there only four which the pearl could wriggle out of. Photo two is an antique ring and the claws come up over the curve of the pearl and makes it much less likely to be lost and there are six making wriggling out less likely.

I have tiny hands. Most jewellers can resize. I chose a wedding ring and they called me to say resizing wasnt possible so im having one made for the same price. Depending on your location I can give details of the shop

I was also looking at a shop online who offer a postal service they were brill and I was going to go with them but saw mine before i ordered and it was serendipity.

PM me if you want details
