Is my wedding rubbish?

Sorry, I know there’s been a couple of these but I’m interested if there’s anything I can improve so people will enjoy our wedding, or whether you’d enjoy it as it is?

3pm - get married. the whole day is all in one location and we’re wanting it to be quite relaxed.
3.30/3.45 - After the wedding there’s some small canapés and a welcome drink for everyone, not sure which drink to go for so ideas would be great for this! I’ll make sure there’s flat drinks though. I’m also considering putting a basket out with various packets of crisps in incase anyone gets hungry?
5pm - afternoon tea, including some savoury bits eg cheeseboard, small pies. Two glasses of wine or beer provided plus a toasting drink.
7.30 - evening guests arrive, possible welcome drink for them?
8pm - cut cake, first dance
8.30 - hog roast, halloumi burgers for veggies l, some sort of vegan option that I haven’t sorted yet. Large salad bits buffet to go with eg pastas, coleslaws, etc. Dessert buffet including the wedding cake but also cheesecakes, brownies etc.

Evening is a DJ, there’s two rooms so one will have the dj in, the other will have sofas for people who prefer chatting:

We’re not having any ‘entertainment’ which worries me a bit. We’re having a DIY photo/video wall but nothing else other than the DJ. The venue is about 30 mins from home, so we’ve offered to organise minibuses for people from the local town, although can’t really afford to offer free transport so would be looking at about £10 per person. What’s the verdict? Haha! I just want people to enjoy themselves and have a good time.

Oh and importantly, we haven’t asked for money (or anything) in the invitation Grin

Sounds lovely, also vote for the crips but I'd go monster munch, transform-a-snack and space raider, wotsits and quavers but thats just because those are the type of crisps I prefer.

Dilligaf81 · 24/01/2019 17:58

blondi the post is about the wedding. Op isn't asking about her Dp and ask they are planning a wedding I would guess she doesn't want an opinion on him.

Harrykanesrightsock · 24/01/2019 18:06

blondi the op doesn’t sound like the wedding is all about her as you have alluded to. She sounds more concerned her guests are happy which is what the day with friends and family should be about.

ATrainSeat · 24/01/2019 18:07

Oh I haven’t invited my partner, he’d just get in the way tbh!

As far as I know the afternoon tea is substantial, there’s cakes, sandwiches, scones, crackers, cheese. Plus they’ll have had canapés so hopefully enough to last until 8.30?

Hahaha I love how controversial the crisps are! I was thinking classics like space invaders and salt and vinegar sticks haha but maybe I need to go upmarket.

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 24/01/2019 18:10

Haha I'd love Space Invaders! Don't go too posh!

SheepyFun · 24/01/2019 18:12

Sounds fine; you might want to let your guests know what you're planning so they can have a fairly substantial lunch - I would have a sandwich if I knew there would be a three course meal at 4pm, but rather more if there wasn't hot food until 8.30

meow1989 · 24/01/2019 18:13

What time of year is the wedding?

Sforsh49 · 24/01/2019 18:14

Sounds fab tbh! We did Bucks Fizz and bottles of beer (Corona as we got engaged in Mexico) as a welcome drink. Got copied by the other two weddings we went to that year as blokes generally want a beer and a bottle like Corona goes down well with lots of women too. We only had a DJ but had lots of kids so hired a soft play set up in an adjoining room we had. Best £150 we spent, never saw the kids all day!

Buntybearbess · 24/01/2019 18:15

@ATrainSeat nah go retro OP. Salt and vinegar sticks and fun crisps. Posh ones have no flavour and are all boring shapes Grin

IfNotNowThenWhy · 24/01/2019 18:15

I would be so chuffed with monster munch. There should be more monster munch at weddings.

AnotherEmma · 24/01/2019 18:17

If I were you I'd bring the afternoon tea and everything after it forward by half an hour:
4.30pm afternoon tea
7pm evening guests arrive
7.30pm cake and first dance
8pm buffet

Also make sure the canapés and afternoon tea are substantial to keep people going until 8pm.

Hanging around waiting for food is no fun!

Apart from tweaking the timings it all sounds great, have a wonderful day! Smile

AnotherEmma · 24/01/2019 18:18

PS If i was going to a 3pm wedding I'd have a big lunch so I could enjoy it without stressing about when I'd get food.

Disfordarkchocolate · 24/01/2019 18:19

Can you have Disco and razzels for the crisps, my favourite.

ATrainSeat · 24/01/2019 18:19

Corona welcome drink is genius.

It sounds lovely! However my friend did this at her wedding. The hog roast was lovely in the evening (everyone was up queuing as soon as it was put out as we were all a bit hungry). As another poster said everyone was really hungry and/or drunk with the afternoon, there was way to much sweet stuff that didn't get eaten and was put out for evening guests. As you're having a later wedding make sure guests know it's afternoon tea so they eat lunch and make sure there is more savory food/sandwiches.

WonderWoman2019 · 24/01/2019 18:21

Pickled onion monster munch
Frazzles
Worcester Sauce Walkers
Scampi Fries

ATrainSeat · 24/01/2019 18:21

Yes a timeline was included with the day invites so people do know it’s afternoon tea and not a full meal. But I could easily shift stuff forward a bit, I can’t imagine anyone complaining because they’re getting fed earlier than expected.

The wedding is in May. It’s a Saturday.

Current crisps list:
Monster munch
Space invaders
Salt and vinegar sticks
Discos
Razzles

Further crisps suggestions welcome. I’ll be hitting the corner shops.

Disfordarkchocolate · 24/01/2019 18:23

The prawn ones that are round foamy discs?

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 24/01/2019 18:24

Frazzles, chipsticks

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 24/01/2019 18:25

You don't need to hit the corner shops. Tesco's sells Frazzles, Chipsticks, Discos and MM in big variety packs.

yummytummy · 24/01/2019 18:25

hula hoops! red ones! your day sounds absolutely fab op!

cowfacemonkey · 24/01/2019 18:27

Skips!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 24/01/2019 18:27

Sounds lovely, OP. I don’t think you need to change anything really!

AutumnCrow · 24/01/2019 18:27

Salt n Shake
