To think I won't ever get my dress sorted

ichangedmyusername · 09/10/2018 15:19

The stress is amounting and I can't take much more.
I tried my dress on this morning, the bust area is too big it gaps if I stand to the side.
I've already taken it to two seamstress who says they can't help as it's a zip and an illusion back so can't add in a corset or anything.
I've spent most the afternoon in tears and have been searching dresses for sale on fb but they are all well out of budget.
I've already had a horrible disaster with my venue cancelling my booking but keeping my money, the car company I used has gone bust and my cake maker will now be on holiday 😭😭😭😭

Oh good grief. Poor you!
So many questions but mainly how can they keep your deposit if they cancelled?

There are eleven billionty dresses out there for less than a couple of hundred quid. Go high street, StillWhite or ASOS.
When is the wedding?

I would sell your wedding spdisaster story to one of those trashy mags so at least something good comes out of it.

Mummyme87 · 10/10/2018 16:28

How is your cake maker now goingnon holiday?! I’m assuming it was agreed and you paid a deposit?
Poor you. Sorry it’s so stressful

ichangedmyusername · 10/10/2018 18:57

They cancelled as they are closing, How they've managed to keep the deposit I don't know but I've contacted them hea0s and they aren't in any rush to give it back to me.
Cake makers dd has booked her a holiday and she apparently 'can't get out of it 😭😭

Oh that sounds stressful.

I got really worried about my dress - just couldn't find anything to suit, and I was running out of time.

In the end I went to Liberty and Harvey Nicks, and tried on every white dress they had.

I found a fabulous dress that wasn't marketed as a wedding dress (so was faaaar cheaper than anything else I'd seen) and fitted without alterations. Stress sorted in an afternoon.

huttub · 10/10/2018 19:24

Can you return dress and get a refund?

sirmione16 · 10/10/2018 19:29

Deep breath. When's the wedding?

You know, all these things seem crazy important but on the day it won't matter if the cake isn't exactly what you wanted at the start, or if you have a different dress. Honestly.

Go through Facebook and post on some local groups for a cake maker! There's loads of people who do it from home nowadays and will have availability and a little cheaper than a big bakery. Same for wedding dresses! Look what's on marketplace, you may surprise yourself.

Best wishes!

ichangedmyusername · 11/10/2018 09:16

No the dress was brought a year ago in a different city.
We get married in 8 weeks

Surely someone can help re the dress OP?! It’s 2018, there must be a seamstress who can do something?! Have you tried a public plea on social media for a v GOOD seamstress? Could you pin it at the sides discretely or use tit tape to stick it down?

ichangedmyusername · 11/10/2018 10:27

There's only 3 seamstresses in my area, the third I can't get hold of, it's the straps as well they slide everywhere as it's just too big, I'll see if I can upload a photo, I'm not sure tit tapewould cut it

ichangedmyusername · 11/10/2018 10:28

This is the problem x

Have you been to any bridal shops to ask about seamstresses? I can't see why that can't be taken in although I appreciate it might be too much for a basic seamstress to take on. It looks beautiful OP :)

LadyOfTheCanyon · 11/10/2018 11:02

Looks like those straps could be shortened by an inch. I can't see exactly but it's not a difficult job. I would attempt it myself but I'm good at sewing and fearless Grin. Would chicken fillets help pad out/ push you up into the bust area?

ichangedmyusername · 11/10/2018 12:23

What do you mean by shortened lol
Its tight at the bottom but hoping the stress will help me lose weight so that I can pull it down more, will that help?
No but I know of two shops that don't have a seamstress so not sure what to do 😢

Where are you based? Have you got wedding insurance that you can claim from?

Justwaitingforaline · 11/10/2018 12:30

Where are you, OP? We may be able to advise and recommend a seamstress

Heratnumber7 · 11/10/2018 12:35

A good push up bra might solve the gaping.

"Celebs" (hate that word) use double sided tape to prevent gaping. How about trying that?

In all honesty though, you are the only person who will notice and I bet it looks fine from the front.

Straps would be easy to shorten.

ichangedmyusername · 11/10/2018 12:37

I'm in the highlands, chicken fillets won't work as I can't wear a bra
Argg why did I choose this dress!!

OP posts:
Pinkstump · 11/10/2018 12:46

You can buy self-adhesive chicken-fillet bras. No personal experience with them but lots of online reviews. May be an option together with shortening the straps?

Spam88 · 11/10/2018 12:55

The bridal shops must have a seamstress that they use though, even if it's an outside company that they recommend to people, so it's worth asking them. It's absolutely expected that every wedding dress will need to be altered to fit the bride perfectly so I refuse to believe it's impossible to get that particular dress altered.

mistermagpie · 11/10/2018 12:55

My wedding dress had a similar issue and I got cups sewn into the actual dress. They were a bit like the cups you get in some sports bras that you can remove to wash them? But firmer. Anyway, sorted the problem out. Bet you could buy some online and sew them in yourself.

SugarandVinegar · 11/10/2018 13:05

Could you get some double sided sticky tape (proper stuff for sticking to skin) and just lightly stick the top of the dress to yourself?

Cake - M&S do some nice made to order ones.

RainbowsArePretty · 11/10/2018 13:31

I'm sure your dress can be altered & will be beautiful. I agree with calling wedding stores & asking who they use for alterations.

beincki · 11/10/2018 13:58

I can see what you mean from the picture, but I honestly don't think this is a bigger problem as you're thinking and you definitely shouldn't look for a new dress - it looks beautiful and is your first choice! How about a bra sewn in? I had that in mine and meant I didn't have to wear a bra, which was much more comfortable on the day anyway. Surely this should be up to the dress shop/seamstress to sort?! You're paying them to make it fit your properly. Hope you get it sorted!

ichangedmyusername · 11/10/2018 14:23

The seamstress didn't mention anything about adding in cups, but both mentioned about needing to take the zip off to bring the material in and bring the material out at the hips and put the zip back on they said it was too much work to be done in 6 weeks 😢🤔
I will message one again and mention about adding in cups. My head is done in with all this

OP posts:
Santaclarita · 11/10/2018 21:57

I think shortening the straps would help too, but a better picture would help. Will see if I can find a seamstress as I live in the same area.
