Tell me about your lovely low key wedding

What did you/the bride and groom wear?
What time was ceremony and meal? Was there a hiatus in between and if so how was it filled?

We had a hotel wedding, ceremony, straight to bar, couple of photos, meal, drinks, lawn games for the kids,bouncy castle (magician doing card tricks which was a suprise gift from bils and husband for me).DJ and bacon butties and chips.no speeches, no first dance, no line up thing. It was perfect, every one still saying most relaxed wedding they've been too.

Did you wear the traditional wedding dress?

Sri Lanka, Just the two of us, picked up witnesses at the the hotel, in wore a hand made sari (cheap as chips), mysterious husband wore a kilt (historic head got redder by the second as the heat built), lovey meal at night, Maldives for 10 day's honeymoon, all for £5000, was a wonderful time and never to be forgotten.

Registry office, did my own flowers, was in such a rush cos the hairdresser took so long that I ended up doing my make up in my sister's car on the way there! meal in local gastro pub then evening do in local golf club. Twas informal, fun and relaxed. I much prefer a casual wedding.

Caribbean. Just us and the people who legally had to be there. Relaxed and just about us.

REG office with 10 guests, one of whom provided music on the keyboard and another who took photos. Taxied everyone to our favourite local restaurant for a boozy lunch, then back to ours for tea and (m&s) wedding cake. I wore a £25 Asos dress, DH wore a navy suit he owned already.

It was perfect for us! Got to chat to all our guests and really enjoy all of it.

My son and daughter in law had a lovely wedding. They both hate crowds and attention and fuss. They had a hotel ceremony at 4pm, drinks and canapes whilst photos taken, dinner then music and dancing. 60 guests. No waiting around, nobody there just because it was expected.

My first wedding was registry office, Karen Millen party frock as my wedding dress, interflora delivered handful of flowers to hold, did my own hair and makeup, quick photos on our phones in the registry office gardens before hopping in taxis to a local restaurant. Great wedding really if it had been the right guy. Oh well.

Biker wedding in a country pub in September, we had a hog roast and a friend playing music in his band. No formal clothing on the dress code the more casual the better. It was a brilliant day, everyone said they enjoyed themselves.

we had a church wedding at 4pm. There were only 34 in the congregation. Immediate family and best friends. Just 4 pew ends of gyp tied with lace. £10 each. Then back to golf club for canoes and pimms. Speeches done Then.
Then another 70 odd for evening do 7pm with band and a substantial buffet. Colour theme pale pink and greenery vintage. Friend did all the table decs and flowers. Used one day productions for photos... way cheaper than anywhere local and fab! I wore a cream floaty dress I got online for 70 pounds my hand tied vintage bouquet cost as much but made the outfit.We spent around 3 grand ish. Happy planning.

Also in the caribbean, 5 guests, wedding dress from etsy... All super relaxed & all for the price of the holiday plus a bit extra really!

Register office wedding at 11am, followed by sit down meal for 20 in nice old hotel opposite, then bar afterwards gradually winding down. No evening do - I was starving so DH and I went for a Chinese! I did wear a traditional white dress (from eBay for about £100 - it was an unworn Laura Ashley dress so a bargain) - I thought it was the only opportunity I'd ever have to wear one. I made my own cake and invitations and a friend took photographs. Total cost of everything was about £900 (10 years ago).

Got married in our local (beautiful) museum. Low key, no cars, flowers done by my arty best pal, bridesmaids just wore a favourite dress of their own, dh and I looked like dressed up, super polished versions of our everyday selves (we both hate those weddings were the bride & groom are virtually unrecognisable !)
No day/evening guests, all welcome, kids included, we all then went on to our local village hall which we decorated ourselves with hundreds of fairy lights, photos and pictures of our family, friends & children, simple flowers etc Guests were asked not to bring a gift, just booze and we supplied a huge buffet and fizz.
We had a playlist and friends opted to dj too, had a photo booth (mostly to amuse the kids/teens but couldn't get the older guests away from it!) I also made lots of little wedding activity books and bought some cheap crafty kits, stickers etc and did a little 'crafty corner' for the little ones.
We loved our day and so so many people wrote to us (and told us) that is was the loveliest of weddings. People loved that our expectations were low and that it was clear that we just wanted everyone there with us, celebrating our marriage, all of the photos are full of happy people dancing/eating/drinking. Several people said it was the best wedding they'd ever been to.
Dh and I (and our children) loved every minute of it

Small wedding in a brewery. Married at 4pm. No hanging about straight into mingling and drinks and then dinner. Live band for dancing and loads of bacon butties and homemade cake later in the evening. No fancy flowers, no favours, no big wedding dress, no entertainment apart from band, relaxed for everyone and just great fun. Spent our money on band, food and booze.

Eloped just us 2 😬 Married at sunset overlooking the ocean before an evening of food and dancing. Would do it the exact same again. The fact it was just us two and we could do exactly as we pleased was fantastic.

I'm organising a wedding for a close friend right now for a date in December. Registry office at 12pm, local park for pictures straight after and then 30 guests to a local resturant for a huge Indian banquet (not an Indian family!).

Then taking taxis/driving back to the groom's house for an afterparty with fireworks, lanterns, music, buffet tea and fire pit with lots of drinking and festivity.

I'm quite looking forward to a wedding that is a bit more low key - I've been to several this year which have broken the £30k mark which is rediculous, frankly.

Us, DH DC, few family, favourite place couple of hours away. I made the cake, wore a pretty pink dress I got for £40, few simple flowers.

Pie and mash out the night before, got up, dressed, ploughman’s for lunch, wedding at 3, walk on the beach, dinner all together at the hotel then all done! Off on honeymoon the day after. Was the best day of my life. So relaxed and easy, loads of food thinking back!

Ooh, I made my own veil too as my DSD wanted me to look like a “proper bride” so I had to oblige

We eloped too! Just us and ds, who was 1 at the time, plus some friends (a couple plus their 3 dc) as witnesses. I think the ceremony was early afternoon? Then we went to a lovely hotel for a posh afternoon tea. It was this time of year (our anniversary is this weekend) so the hotel was all decorated for Christmas and they even had carol singers.

We stayed in a gorgeous cosy cottage with an open fire.

It was all very twinkly and lovely, and I wouldn't change a thing.

We had church in a high street dress, an hour "drinks reception" on a bus driving us round London, into a restaurant for lunch for 30 guests. Low key and lovely.

My aunt's when I was small was fabulous. She wore an incredible Liberty dress and it was at the local register office, from where we all had a bus back to their house where caterers did canapés and drinks. It was a glorious sunny day, which helped, and we all left around 6ish. My GPs and their wedding party then had a takeaway and drank the dregs of the leftover bottles. Really unpretentious and glorious, and had we had the space I would totally have done the same.

registry office 11.30 am. back to ours for extended 'garden party'.. (in our suburban semi). About 10 t the wedding ,about 30/40 guests family friends and neighbours turned up at various times during the day.. It was midweek and some kids came after school

B&Q Gazebos. Waitrose buffet food that we plated up ourselves before we went ,plus aside of salmon, and a tower of little cakes from a French patisserie as the wedding cake , Lots of lovely wine and fizz and other drinks, and a garden fridge with beer .. It was July and we were really lucky with the weather

It ended up with just DH and I and the cat in the garden with alast toast at midnight!

I wore a silk dress I got off Ebay for £75 (it was really lovely ) . He splashed out on a Paul Smith suit! ( if I'd known that before I'd have bought a Vivien Westwood!! I tell him he still owes me! ) .. 24 years ago this year

The kids decorated the gazebos with balloons and ribbons ..it was so lovely . I actually cried..

We had a civil ceremony in our tiny (Catholic) village church in Italy. I gave the caretaker ladies money for flowers and a bouquet in pink. They got the flowers to last three weeks!
My dress was made by a local woman in shantung from a McCalls pattern and the family veil went over it. We had 40 guests and willing family members were the photgraphers as their wedding present.
An afternoon to evening roast meat buffet with my DM's lovingly iced cake, piped music and plenty of sparkling white wine. PIL paid for the meal. Most of my guests stayed in our house and we went on our honeymoon for a week in France.

It was small, low key and frugal. We couldn't have afforded anything else but I loved every moment. Nowadays I'd estimate the price we paid at about £3000?

We got married in a pub. Had a wedding licence so we did the whole day there. Picked up flowers from a wholesale flower market and made some paper decorations then sent friends down with them on the day. It looked so amazing I nearly cried when I arrived. I felt so loved. Family we're the band, Spotify playlist, no first dance, no cake cutting (cakes from local farmers market). Free bar and lots and lots of dancing. It was the best party ever.
