  • I should add that's because we jacked in the whole big wedding idea and eloped ( I wore a mini dress in the end!)

My beautiful super expensive dress is still in the box

@flickerty, not sure how long you've been married but you could still wear it? I mean, if you've eloped fairly recently, then perhaps you could have a party for loved ones and then you can wear your lovely dress? Or, you could wear it on a significant anniversary and wear it for renewing vows or something? Or alternatively, you could sell it? 🤔

It depends where you go. You could get one from the bridal section in a high street or department store for a few hundred. Or places like wed2be have different types of dresses often cheaper than bridal stores. Or you can go to bridal boutiques or stores and pay over a thousand.
It really does all depend what you're looking for. Sample or discontinued dresses can be cheaper,
I went to a local bridal boutique and got a David Tutera McKayla dress (White ballgown with long train) for £1400. Plus £150 for a two tier white veil the same length as my dress train, plus £100 for alterations. So in total £1650).

£1650 but sold it afterwards for around £800.

my sample sale Charlotte Balbier dress was reduced from £1000 to £500, but was a one day sample sale at an amazing boutique so i had to make my mind up on the day. but there was no doubt she was the one for me from the moment I tried her on. the add-ons soon add up: dry cleaning £45, veil £165, accessories approx £140, faux fur shrig £69, alterations £150 i think, plus underwear shoes and jewellery it's coming in over a grand

Depends what you're looking for. Designer - easily 1k. Debenhams/Monsoon/ASOS - much , much less.

For something shorter and quirkier try dig for victory or Etsy sellers. Also don't dismiss second hand dresses , they've only been worn once after all.

Mine cost £160 in 1985. The rest of the entire wedding cost £1000 so I guess 10-15% of the total wedding cost is about right.

Mine retailed at £1400. I got the same dress from a sample sale for £400. Paid a seamstress to tidy up the beading etc. I loved my dress but not enough to pay £1400! Wed2Be do nice dresses in lower price brackets. Essentially without the designer name. Saying that no one knew who mine was and it still should have cost a bomb...

If you're concerned about price, do look into vintage on Etsy: dresses from the 30s/40s/50s are beautifully made and really fairly cheap. Have gone for a 30s silk backless one in stunning condition and it cost £250.

I actually bought a beautiful wedding dress from whistles - 700 quid and it was such a gorgeous dress.

I bought mine last Monday! It's a vintage lace ball gown, off the peg at a bridal outlet and I paid £700 for it.

I'm just starting to plan my wedding and am getting a gorgeous tea length dress for about $120 AUD (including postage).

As much as I want the brick and mortar experience, dresses are so expensive and I have to drive over two hours to get to the nearest shop. I can't afford the time or money

I’m in the minority but my dress is £2625, and I can’t wait to wear it. It is a designer gown and currently featuring on the front cover of Bride magazine (and with the same type of flowers i’m having!). This is my second marriage and I am comfortable spending such a huge amount on my dress but did take me a few months to be sure.

Mine came to around £3000 in the end, once alterations were included. Don’t forget to factor in some extra budget in case you need changes to be made. I was very lucky, my parents paid for my dress.

The shop I got mine from had dresses starting at £500 and went all the way up into the £10k + range. The service was the same whatever you looked at.

€100 ebay. Vintage 50s. €45 alterations and a whopping bloody €90 dry cleaning bill! Nearly died, but kept my poker face Grin

Bridal shopping wasn't for me and neither are white (ivory champagne cream beige whatever) dresses. Mine wasn't white.

My best friend found a pronovias one she liked, bought material for €180 (shot silk and antique lace) and the seamstress made it for €200, including veil.

Both of ours are in boxes on top of the wardrobe. I've been married 7 years, best friend 8. Don't know what to do with my dress...

First wedding - Justin Alexander, £1250.
Second wedding - Ghost Gisele, £200.

Totally depends on what style/day you're having.

Between £500-£2000 would be the norm I think. You can get something weddingy for £500 but won't have much choice. The majority of dresses I saw were between £1000-1800. Mine was £1400.

Mine was £3160. I had no intentions of spending that much though, was just going to get something for £150ish from monsoon / phase eight. Had a lovely wedding dress boutique by me thatvhad gorgeous window displays so really wanted to try on there ‘just to see’. Fell in love with first one I tried on (though I reckon I tried on 100+ after that in various shops) and ended up not being able to get past its perfectness.

As others have said don’t forget alterations, I had hem and elastic threaded trough waist of dress and was still £350! Plus then veil, shoes, head piece etc and all adds up...
