How much were your flowers?

So...I have some ideas of what I want in terms of flowers. The venue is beautiful but the decoration is plain white so very much a blank canvas to decorate.

I know that the flowers I want will be expensive...but I'm wondering how expensive exactly?

My Future-MIL said to budget £7k which I disregarded as a massive over estimation but the florist I'm going to says she has a minimum order of £2k so perhaps she's not as far off the mark as I thought Shock

So a bit of a dilemma...the flowers will be a big part of the decoration budget and I knew it would be more than the £500 or so average spend.

How much did you spend on flowers and have you regretted it?

Any pictures of what you got for your money?

I'm in Surrey so that doesn't help with prices either...

£1,050.

Bridal bouquet
6 bridesmaid bouquets
7 buttonholes
2 Church arrangements
12 table centrepieces

WhiskersAndPaws · 26/09/2016 20:25

You'd better hope you don't get any hay fever sufferers at your wedding if you spend SEVEN THOUSAND POUNDS on flowers!! chokes

tissuesosoft · 02/10/2016 11:08

If you're in Surrey- you could go to a flower market in London so you may end up paying a lot less and you could probably bargain the price down abit, that way you can control the costs. Then have someone on stand by to arrange the flowers for you (apprentice florists from a local college, local WI, church etc)

sianihedgehog · 02/10/2016 11:17

I spent about £100 and did ribbon wrapped bridal bouquet and 6 bridesmaid bouquets, 4 buttonholes, and buckets of daffodils on every table for a friend a few years ago. If you can order wholesale flowers and DIY you can get a big effect for small money!

Haggisfish · 02/10/2016 11:20

£250 for my bouquet, two bridesmaids, and about ten button holes. Flower ladies in church did wonders for donation of £100 to church.

idontlikealdi · 02/10/2016 11:25

£900 but that didn't include table centrepieces as I made my own. We had a couple of big displays in the ceremony room that then got moved into the party room so remember that you can move them instead of doubling up if that makes sense.

yomellamoHelly · 02/10/2016 11:36

We spent £800, but was a few years ago. Two big displays, long tablepiece for the top table and eight other table centrepieces and coursages. (Through four big rooms.) You could spend a fortune I think, but our priorities (after the venue) were food and drink (and a fab honeymoon). Didn't want to be facing a huge debt after the event either.

Did mine myself with a £50 trip to the flower market and raided my garden for flowers that I'd grown. I got loads of comments! £7 k is obscene and ridiculous.

Fluffybrain · 15/10/2016 06:15

Spent £50 on large flowers made by a lady from willow for me and 5 bridesmaids. Willow hearts in vases for tables. Tied ribbons in wedding colours to all these. £18 on ribbons. They look amazing.

Showgirl109 · 15/10/2016 06:43

2.5k
I love flowers we had.
11x centrepieces
Flower arch at ceremony
Petal aisle
Bridal bouquet
4x bridesmaids bouquets
10 x buttonholes
Flowers for cake
Flowers on the back bride and groom chairs

It also depends on what flowers you choose some are much more expensive than others. My original quote was 5k! And we scaled it back dramatically.

allegretto · 15/10/2016 06:48

A few hundred pounds in the church - actually someone was getting married after me so we just shared the costs. She chose them as I wasn't fussy!

Firsttimer82 · 15/10/2016 07:01

£1,900 but i had 13 bridesmaids.

blueistheonlycolourwefeel · 15/10/2016 07:16

I bought my large Cezanne roses wholesale. £500 for 500 flowers but that was 13 years ago. A friend did the bouquets and decorations for me. There's loads of companies online.

ceara · 15/10/2016 07:18

Another vote for New Covent Garden Market. It's an amazing place. When I went there for my wedding flowers there were plenty of other browsers on research or buying trips for their own DIY wedding flowers so clearly lots of people do this. If you're in Surrey it's within easy reachj, as south London (Vauxhall).

finova · 15/10/2016 07:21

£500-£600 and they were beautiful, lots of white roses and hydrangeas.
Used just white carnations bunched together into a big Pom Pom for bridesmaids looked fab.

Randytortoise · 15/10/2016 07:22

I bought my flowers wholesale and my florist cousin arranged them as a wedding present. I ended up falling in love with the most expensive rose in the warehouse and spent almost £500 on flowers for 6 table decorations, 2 bridal bouquets (1 to throw 1 to keep) 3 smaller bridesmaid bouquets 5 button holes and cake decorations.
It would have been more than £2000 if I had to pay for the hours and hours of work that they took.

Marmite27 · 15/10/2016 07:28

About £500 two years ago, and that was expensive as it was Mothers Day weekend.

For that I got a bridal bouquet, 2 bridesmaids, 4 button holes, 2 corsages and 2 Mother's Day bouquets. Plus 2 table top arrangements which were all green with dried lavender. From a Chelsea flower show winning florist.

I've attached a pic of my bouquet.

I paid 65 pounds for some beautiful top table flowers and I had different centre pieces. I would shop around though to get an idea of prices. Here are my top table flowers

Between 50-100 as we had dried flowers. It fitted with our theme and also means you can get them earlier and one less thing to do in the run up to the wedding.

What's your total budget? Don't spend the majority on decorations as hardly anyone will remember them. Everyone (including you ) having a great time is much more important

Showgirl109 · 15/10/2016 07:44

Forgot to attach a picture of some of my flowers. This was the next day so they look a little wilted.

Ours were £400 for 4 bridesmaids' bouquets, 3 corsages, 4 buttonholes and a flower girl posy, then £180 at the flower market for the flowers to decorate the venue, which I did myself - might that be an option for you?

MrsDilligaf · 23/10/2016 17:03

I paid £1300 for my flowers:
Brides Bouquet
3 x Bridesmaid bouquets
Flower girl bouquet
2 x Corsages
3 x buttonholes (groom, best man and FoB)
16 x buttonholes for various family (got married in the middle of nowhere)
Tons and tons of jam jars, bud vases, milk jugs, top table Dec's and various arrangements
3 x Thank you bouquets.

Was thrilled with what I had. I said to my florist "this is my budget what can you do?" She was very talented.

MulderitsmeX · 14/01/2017 00:14

7k sounds like a very posh wedding!!

500-600 for me
1 x church pedestal display (90?)
Bouquet (100 as I wanted an unusual style)
3 BMs (40 each)
Flowergirl basket (25)
Button holes (10 ish)
Coursages (5 i think)

Rural West Country, would imagine London to be a lot more but not 7k

CatThiefKeith · 14/01/2017 00:17

£70 for mine, and 4 bridesmaids posies. All artificial and I still have them almost 2.5 years later. We did marry abroad though

Evilstepmum01 · 14/01/2017 00:25

£60 for a bouquet for me and one for my DSD. My friend made the flowers from sheet music with love songs on it. Mixed with purple paper flowers and decorated with a pearl garland/purple ribbon. they are amazing and totally unique.
Gretna. Invited nobody, £1500 for whole thing. I may be the wrong person to give advice!
Horses for course though, if you find the flowers you love, get them. Its your day!!
