Without trying it on or seeing it first hand?

ToeFluff · 10/01/2015 23:23

Oh boo! I thought that was the case but I was hopeful!!

I've got the saying too good to be true popping into my head but I've found an amazing dress and half price with good reviews too..wondering what the catch is.. I think I'm in love thoughGrin

I did. It was stunning (if I say so myself!)

Amazingly required only £30 of alterations

Dropdeadfred2 · 10/01/2015 23:28

I did

ToeFluff · 10/01/2015 23:31

There is hope!!

Do u mind me asking where u got them? I've found a site called musesdresses.co.uk and they have a sale for another day or so..the one I want is £108. I can't believe it!

I wouldn't buy any dress online.
But, I've never bought anything online!

mrsd2014 · 10/01/2015 23:33

Looks very like every other un-genuine chinese site there is I'm afraid.

ToeFluff · 10/01/2015 23:34

Nothing at all? Not even a book? I don't think a day goes by I don't check Amazon for something or another, sadly I don't get to buy it all though!

OP posts:
ToeFluff · 10/01/2015 23:35

But it said uk?? Am I being dense? That would make sense though I guess :(

OP posts:
ToeFluff · 10/01/2015 23:36

I should probably also add..it was the first site I went on!!

I would be more tempted to buy from a seller from another site- e.g. ebay or etsy. There are loads of websites out there selling cheap dresses- a lot now claim to be uk based due to the bad rep chinese websites have, but are still chinese. The website you linked to has no contact address, so you cannot confirm where they are based. Reviews on their website will be positive, on chinese sites they delete bad reviews. There are no reviews for this website on google, which doesnt seem good. I wouldn't risk ordering from this website to be fair. Better opt for an ebay chinese seller where you can see their feedback, and ebay will be better behind you in getting your money back if need be.

ToeFluff · 10/01/2015 23:52

Booo, I knew that was more than likely the case but a girl can try eh- was hoping to avoid the hassle of wedding dress shopping!

Thank you for the replies-I would send flowers but I don't know how to on a phone!

Best of luck finding your dress! I found my dream dress in a shop and found it second hand on preloved so saved a fortune. I bought it without having seen it in person, few flaws that the seller hadn't mentioned, but nothing that couldnt be fixed!

angeltulips · 10/01/2015 23:54

I did, but from a uk website so quite different to ordering from an unknown foreign site. Fwiw, it fitted like a glove, no alterations required and I didn't set foot in a wedsing dress shop!

sliceofsoup · 11/01/2015 00:09

I bought my dress from Honeypie Boutique.

It was perfect and I loved it. I did have to get the straps altered which cost £13 but I knew I would have to as I added an inch on to my measurement as I would rather have too big than too small. Because it had a corset back I got away with the rest. It is a very specific look though, so not for everyone.

It arrived a few days early and was in perfect condition. It is taking a risk doing it online, but I have to say that website you mentioned just looks like all the other china dress websites.

Just steer clear of lightinthebox. They have terrible reviews. I did a lot of research before buying online.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 11/01/2015 00:17

I bought my dress online and needed no alterations at all, fitted perfectly. My dh measured me, which horrified some people that I trusted him with that job but he's an engineer so measures carefully.
I got it from a company on fb of all places called lamaras dress. She's based in Northampton.

dorasee · 11/01/2015 00:17

I did and it was fabulous!!! JJHouse was the company I used. You choose the dress, send them your measurements, and voila! I had to have the chest taken in a wee bit more but I loved my dress. £120 too. Great quality. Not a bad price at all.

Alb1 · 11/01/2015 00:34

I no someone who got there's from angeldress.co.uk and it came exactly as described! I was going to get mine from there too but I didn't a lot of shopping around and managed to find a wedding dress shop with dresses for £100! Ideal cos it's the same price but I got to try it on first, so shop around lots!

Dropdeadfred2 · 11/01/2015 00:38

I bought mine from USA. it was an Alfred Angelo dress and the exchange rate at the time made it less than half the UK price

ToeFluff · 11/01/2015 10:03

Well I've looked at the other sites suggested and jjhouse has my dress-except the picture they use makes me not like it anymore! Back to the drawing board!

Guess what I'm going to be doing for the next few days! Grin

I bought my dress, with much trepidation, from a Chinese seller of eBay. It was exactly what I wanted, and only £50! I think if you're looking for the traditional dress experience of trying it on and everyone being wowed, or for the dress to have no flaws and be of the exquisite craftmanship you'd find in a dress of 10x the price, don't do it. There were small, barely noticeable flaws in my dress (a couple of sequins had fallen off, there were a few stray threads). If you're looking for a cheap dress which is still absolutely beautiful, then shop carefully and take the plunge!

I don't know what kind of dress you're looking for, but I've seen a few wedding shoots lately where people have bought full length tutus off of etsy and have picked a lovely top to go with it, and it's looked stunning. Much cheaper and more original than a boutique gown!

Trills · 11/01/2015 11:22

Reality did, and it was very nice.

Reality · 11/01/2015 19:23

I did! It was £50 and long sleeved and beautiful. I paid £30 odd to have it taken in and up a bit and it was perfect.

I figured it was worth a £50 punt to potentially save a grand, and it paid off.

Trills · 11/01/2015 19:26

Thanks! :o

I suppose the queston is:
If you spend £100 on a dress from China and it's crap, can you afford to have lost that £100? Or will you now be in trouble?

ToeFluff · 12/01/2015 16:47

Ok, so I've decided I am going to go for it..but will hold off till I've tried on similar in a shop so at least it's just the quality to worry about and not it turning up and realising I look like the Michelin Man in a white sheet! Grin
