Without trying it on or seeing it first hand?

I found my dress in a shop and then looked it up online. It was half the price and brand new, rather than full price and tried on several times. It took awhile to arrive but I had time.

But I wouldn't have bought it without trying it on first!

FaithLoveandGrace · 13/01/2015 10:21

Haven't read all of the thread but I bought mine online. I went to a bridal store and tried on various styles then bought one which was pretty similar to one I fell in love with in store - for a fraction of the cost! It was from a Chinese seller with excellent feedback, though I can't remember who now. When it came it did look different to the photo online but actually I love it and it's better than I expected.

MaelstromOfLunacy · 13/01/2015 10:26

I did, from sellmyweddingdress.co.uk

ISolemnlySwearImUptoNoGood · 13/01/2015 10:33

I did. And it was from China! And it was beautiful, fit like a love and the quality was amazing.

Originally, I saw a dress in a bridal mag that I fell for but it was astronomically pricey and my heart sank. I'd seen wedding dresses on Etsy but was windy about it. Lots of searching on there. Then when I found 'the one' I knew I had to have it. The seller had great feedback. So I took a chance and I'm so glad I did Grin it wasn't expensive either.

I got mine second hand from EBay. Cost £100 altogether (cost of dress and alterations)

I wrote here in support of dresses online but today I saw an arrival from the daily mail about the dangers of this, so if your on Facebook have a look at 'knock off nightmares' before ordering ur dress, jus so you can take a look at the potential risk before you order! I'm sure there probably are some decent sites out there too tho

Qwebec · 15/01/2015 18:59

An issue no one has mentionned which made me decide not to buy online in the ethical aspect. I saw pictures online of internet ordered dresses in the factory they are made, and the working conditions of the people who make those dresses are horrendous.
I decided to have a simpler dress made by a local seamstress rather than support the abuse. But it is not a easy choice for everyone (I'm not that into big dresses, so it was not a huge sacrifice).

JP12345 · 27/01/2015 04:17

I did.

I used lightinthebox and it was great!

Like someone above I reasoned it was worth risking the small amount (£102!!) To take a gamble; and it paid off!

I ordered it a bit big so it could be easily altered and I ended up with an absolutely gorgeous dress, which fit like a glove.

I agree that it should come down to your budget. Can you afford to risk the £100?

For me it was an easy decision, everything else was so pricey it was worth the risk, and in the end, saving potentially £hundreds (or more!) was the best decision of my wedding. I could spend on extras like a photo booth etc which everyone enjoyed and a proper wedding car. I felt a million dollars, and no-one would have known! (Except that I was so pleased with my bargain i told everyone!).

ps the accessories were such good value - I know someone who paid £1,000 for veil, I paid £9 and it looked stunning AND I wasn't preoccupied with looking after
all this priceless kit all day.

I did. From, shock horror, one of those un-genuine Chinese sites Shock
I had a total shoestring budget. And am much happier that we spent very very little on our wedding. We still had a great day, we still got married, I still felt beautiful and we weren't left with a shed load of debt for one day! I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a dress I'd only ever wear once. Sure the quality wasn't exceptional, but it was fine!

LittleMachine · 05/02/2015 13:17

I did! I got a discontinued, unworn Phase Eight dress off ebay. I hadn't seen it in the flesh at all until it was delivered. I got an 8 and I'm a 10. So a bit of a risk but I love the dress and I have until December to lose weight. Don't regret it at all.

I'm getting married this autumn and I've bought my dress from Etsy, from a UK dressmaker based in Brighton. It's made from antique lace and cost £380. It wasn't made specifically for me, but it fits pretty damn well considering. A little tight at the bust, but I am currently losing weight, so I don't know whether I'll need to have it altered yet or whether it'll be ok. The dressmaker has said she'll make alterations at no extra cost.

I regularly buy clothes online, so had no qualms about buying my wedding dress in the same way. I know not many of my friends feel the same way, but they have said to me that I have an "eye" for knowing what suits me, so they're not surprised I did. It's a complete one off and a million times better suited to me than anything I've seen in bridal shops.

I haven't in fact visited a single bridal shop to buy anything from my wedding, I've sourced it all online - shoes from Not on the High Street, wedding ring from Ebay, etc. Visiting numerous bridal shops with two friends who are also getting married this year made me realise that traditional wedding dresses just aren't for me - they all felt so heavy and cumbersome and I knew I wouldn't be comfortable in them, because I just don't suit the "formal" look.

Pic of my dress attached. Smile

I did, it was fine and fitted perfectly.

Kna94 · 08/05/2018 21:43

Had very bad experience with Angelgown. They fooled me; their website has UK flag and contact email UK but goods are from China. I bought a very nice dress, with UK sizes chart but when the item arrived, it was size 12 instead. When I challenged them they refused to exchange but wanted a return at a cost almost the price of a new dress.!

So size 16 is 20 for Chinese sizes. I'd better not to advise anyone to try this adventure!

Cliveybaby · 10/05/2018 15:50

I did!
Bit of a gamble but it's amazing! - I used JJshouse.
It's a bit big, but I'm going to get it altered as I want the neckline changed anyway.
I would say - don't assume your size, actually measure yourself properly and compare to their sizing charts.
Also read their terms and conditions very carefully. For JJshouse I realised that if I got it custom sized it was non-returnable!
See my thread about it: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/wedding/3203932-Could-I-alter-this-dress

Ooh and what I did first was go to a massive wedding dress shop and try dresses on to see what suied me - which wasn't quite what I thought. Then looked for similar online.
