2 nights in Las Vegas, 1 night at Grand Canyon, back to Vegas for blessing by Elvis Grin and another night, 7 nights skiing at Mammoth Mountain.

It was brilliant, absolutely brilliant Grin

Xmasbaby11 · 19/02/2013 21:23

Sweden - for a fortnight, travelling by train. Swanky hotel in Stockholm, wooden cabin by the lakes, Wallander land then few days in Copenhagen. Divine.

Limelight · 19/02/2013 21:43

3 nights in Paris over New Year 2005.

Poor DH picked up norovirus from one of the wedding guests and spent our honeymoon either asleep or with his head down the loo. I watched a lot of CNN, wandered around Notre Dame and the Louvre (alone), and existed on a diet of Lays crisps and Brie (couldn't bring myself to sit by myself in a lovely restaurant). I spent New Year's Eve listening to the fireworks from my hotel bed, whilst lying next to my snoring, ill-smelling (I'm being diplomatic) new DH. Needless to say we returned to the UK and I was welcomed by my very own dose of norovirus.

Ah well! We've had plenty of lovely holidays since. Grin

Norfolk
With our 10 month old
a week in a friend' father's beautiful cottage in a proper midsomer murders villagey loveliness
and a night at the Victoria in Holkham
Was lovely
And cheap

Limelight · 19/02/2013 22:00

I should add that my experience was considerably better than my DM's in the early 70s.

My DF arranged a surprise honeymoon... 7 nights at an outward bounds course with 60 fourteen year old boys (they were both secondary school teachers although not at the same school). He 'offered' her services as an extra pair of hands on the annual school trip but neglected to tell her that. She spent the week shouting at teenagers trying to sneak beer into their dormitories.

She has NEVER forgiven him and he's never worked out what he did wrong. Amazingly they're celebrating their ruby wedding anniversary this year. Grin

Shodan · 19/02/2013 22:19

Shock and Grin at your DF, Limelight.

We had three days in Las Vegas, including a trip to a ranch and a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon, followed by 8 days in Maui, then back across the States to Burlington for three days, This last was supposed to be to admire New England in the Fall, but Fall was late that year. Grin It was still lovely though.

We were going to go again for our tenth anniversary (which is in ... erm... three years, I think) but we're tempted by a road trip through California (taking the DSs) instead

Limelight · 19/02/2013 22:21

We've done a Californian road trip (pre-DC). It was fab!

BadRoly · 19/02/2013 22:22

Haha Shodan - we were going to go back to Vegas for our 10th anniversary too! Instead dh was away in the Middle East somewhere and I was at home with 4dc trying to pack for a big house move!

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 19/02/2013 22:26

Thailand.
Boring as fuck and Bangkok is filthy.
Poverty is actually heartbreaking outside your posh resort.
The bowing and kneeling is not easy to get used to. People backing out of the room? I'm not the Queen!

Been to America since, would love to see more. Was only on the east coast.

For honeymoon stuff I would go to Malaysia. Beautiful, KL is an amazing city and the islands are stunning.

How much time have you got to holiday?

Shodan · 19/02/2013 22:27

Ooh, Limelight. I may have to pick your brains sometime for itinerary advice. (Not that I'm getting a really early start to my planning or anything Grin )

BadRoly- surely you're due a do-over then??

Crikeyblimey · 19/02/2013 22:29

Already posted this on another thread tonight.

3 weeks in Tuscany. 3 nights in Rome, 2 in Florence and the rest in a villa in the hills. Absolute bliss. 16 month old ds loved it too :)

zipzap · 19/02/2013 22:32

We got a train down to spain, stayed there a couple of days before catching a cruise around North Africa and ending up in Greece, stayed a few nights in Athens, then got the train and ferry back to Italy, stayed a few nights in Bologna and then got the train to Paris to get the Eurostar home.

Can you guess - I hate flying with a passion and haven't flown for over 20 years so wasn't going to start for my honeymoon!

Nonetheless, we covered loads of ground, saw amazing things, had a wonderful time and don't begrudge a minute (or a penny) of it. Especially as DH was very ill a year or so later, we weren't sure if he was going to survive (he did thank goodness!) and by then we had ds1 so we didn't end up going on holiday for nearly 5 years.

We also noticed that pretty much everywhere our honeymoon took us (maybe with the exception of France and Malta) got touched in either the African Spring Risings (is that what they ended up being called?) or the money worries around the same time! (think - Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Greece, Italy etc!) Grin

bruffin · 19/02/2013 22:35

2 weeks in the maldives followed by a week touring Sri Lanka.

BlingBubbles · 19/02/2013 22:37

We got married in SA so afrer the wedding spent a week in cape town with family and friends and then flew off on honeymoon - 4 nights in Hong Kong, 10 nights in Bali and a night in Singapore! best holiday we ever had, would go back to Bali in a second. We were suppose to fly back to London before we went to Hong Kong, however, there was a small incident namely the ash cloud that caused a lot of travel chaos and a lot of unwanted stress in my life! The Bali beach was just what I needed after that!

zipzap · 19/02/2013 22:38

Oh and we also had about 10 days between when we got married and when we set off on honeymoon which was brilliant.

DH had a couple of days off immediately after the wedding which was nice, then had a week back in work. I do contract work so had kept it free around my wedding and hm.

We both went down with stinking colds just after the wedding - as did lots of people I know. I think it's that thing where you are so busy in the run up that you can keep on going but as soon as you stop, the bugs rush in and hit hard. So if it isn't a cold then you get hit hard by a stomach bug or some other lurgy.

Having a break meant that we got over our bugs and feelings of exhaustion, and we were then able to really enjoy our honeymoon. Whereas lots of friends have been ill on holiday and therefore not enjoyed it as much as they might otherwise have done...

byanymeans · 21/02/2013 08:27

2 motorbikes and a list of B&B is devon. Roll on August I cant wait to enjoy the open road and a few day just me and DP :) :)

mothermirth · 21/02/2013 08:35

Four days in Cornwall last summer. It poured every single minute. Had a great time Smile

Am now trying to organise a sunny child-free holiday. Can't wait.

worldgonecrazy · 21/02/2013 08:43

One night in our favourite semi-posh hotel drinking some very expensive champagne - it just happened that there was a Dom Perignon event being held at the same time and the staff spoiled us rotten.

craftynclothy · 21/02/2013 08:56

6 nights in Prague. I thought it was probably a couple of nights too long tbh but we did get upgraded to first class on the way back because our transfer to the airport was late!

bridgetsmum · 24/02/2013 13:26

2weeks in Florence. My DH knew I'd always wanted to go there. He booked the whole thing and I didn't find out until we were on the way from church to reception.
The first 13 nights in a beautiful villa hotel outside the city with magnificent views over Florence. Drinking wine on "our bench" in the evenings watching the lights twinkling in the city, fab memories.
The last night we stayed in a city centre hotel, equally lovely, but more suited for a short break, so glad we stayed in Tuscan hills for most of the trip. Day trips to Sienna and Pisa too. Best holiday ever Smile

CPtart · 24/02/2013 13:43

Twelve nights in the Maldives which was totally stunning.
However the 9/11 attacks happened mid way through which made our idyllic surroundings seem suddenly bizarre when watching the chaos and traumatic events unfolding in New York from a beach bar on Sky TV.

KaleyX · 10/05/2013 23:42

DiscretionAdvised

Climbed mt Kilimanjaro then a week in Zanzibar.

Sorry to bump an old thread but discretion that is literally my dream honeymoon Grin What an absolutely incredible experience! cannot wait for my turn!!!

Pandemoniaa · 11/05/2013 00:54

We're rather hoping that the highlight of our wedding weekend (apart from the actual wedding day of course!) will be the play off finals at Wembley Stadium. Other than that we shan't be going anywhere until later in June and then we're off to stay with friends Up North.

Startail · 11/05/2013 02:17

A week in Majorca with 18-30.

They advertised a couples holiday. It never happened we ended up in a different hotel with a normal group. However, we got the top floor sea view (perhaps a slight apology, no one said) and except joining one boat trip did our own thing all week and didn't see them.

Very basic hotel no pool, no food after breakfast as the dinning room was being rebuilt. So it was easy not to run into anyone. I think we puzzled the rep. Academic non party animal just married geeky science students are not their usual customers. However, it was cheap, the sun shine, the sea was warm, the bars friendly and the island beautiful.

We've been back many times.

MangoJuiceAddict · 07/06/2013 09:16

We had 5 days in Rome (absolutely stunning and I desperately want to return), the in-laws looked after DD so we could fully relax. We were just 19 so the whole thing turned into just a teenagers' holiday of getting absolutely wasted every night, enjoying 'honeymoon gymnastics' and eating yummy Italian food. We then went to India for 10 days to meet DH's grandparents and cousins... it was great because the in-laws surprised us by also being there with DD (I missed her so much). I prefered Italy to India but India was fab because I got a tan and was with my DD. Wherever you go you'll have a good time, that's what being a newly wed is all about!
