small intimate wedding

Hello,

Just a bit of help if possible. DP and I have been engaged for 10 years and I have pushed over chrimbo for us to set a date. I have now got permission to book a date for late summer of 2011!!! Very excited!

We only want a very small intimate wedding so will go for Registry office on friday or saturday morning followed by afternoon tea at my folks house. We are going to keep it very low key and very quiet but I need advice, I dont actually now know what to do? Help!!!!

What do I need/should I book? We aren't going to be doing best men/bridesmaids etc or hen/stag so no worries there but I'm thinking I need at the very least:

Dress for me/suit for DP

Catering - I'm thinking of using somewhere like M&S party spreads as there will only be 70 max for afternoon tea.

Drink - mate has a discount card for a wholesalers as they are caters so cheap booze sorted!

Cake - DP mum makes so easy

What about a wedding car? The place we will get married fronts out on to a main street in the town and I dont want to have to run into a taxi in my dress? Any ideas how much they would cost?

Any advice/hints/tips to give from those who have had very small weddings? There would be max 40 people at the ceremony of immediate/close family and 5 of our very best friends. I am a little worried about politics and there are some friends I would love to be there but once you invite one person you have to invite others and it just explodes...... how have other people dealt with it?

Thank you in advance!!!! :)

Yay! well done Raspberry, sounds like it's all coming along nicely. Is your DP having a wedding ring?

raspberrytipple · 14/01/2011 20:00

yep he is, he quite liked a titanium one he saw, thought he wouldn't want one but he does after all so that's nice. Although, we got the wording for the ceremony from the Registrar today and DP has said he doesn't want to exchange rings - I thought you had to but he said not and was right?! It's just because he's nervous, the first thing he said was 'Ill probably drop it on the floor!!!" Bless him.

LOL - If he dropped it do you think he would pick it up and do the mum thing of blowing on it?

I now have a wedding dress!!! Eeeek! Grin

Grin I actually don't think the picture does it justice because it sits so nicely on my figure (hourglass) so when it's on it makes me look like this

But 1010 is my dress Grin super happy with it. Spent three hrs yesterday trying on dresses with friends and didn't find anything that I loved anywhere close to this one, and it was in the too so a complete bargin!!! Very happy lil lady. Just got to wait for the summer sun now! Grin

Ok so I booked our appointment at the registry office, now we have to tell everyone - should be fun!

Any hints on types of wedding dress to suit a short (5' 2") pear shaped, 35 year old? Size 10ish! Still not sure but worrying if I don't at least try some I might regret it???

raspberrytipple · 19/01/2011 16:45

No idea, but just get yourself into some wedding outfit places and try EVERYTHING. I've ended up with a dress that I would never in a million years have thought I would go for. Just have a go, see what you fancy. People in the shops do it day in day out and will be very helpful. They wont just have wedding dresses, they usually have prom gowns and bridesmaids dresses or just the odd general dress to wear to a fancy wedding. Once you've got an idea of what you want you can go find it cheaper somewhere else Grin

Hey raspberry how's your planning going?

We getting there have set a date, told everyone. Kids were funny DS1 asked if this meant he would get a new suit, he's 16, and DS2 just said No! Bless 'em.

Have ordered a dress, hoping it fits, if it's ok I think I'll start to relax a bit. All rather full on at the moment.

raspberrytipple · 03/02/2011 19:19

hello melody,

Been off line trying to avoid mumsnet for a little while. Wedding plans are going well thank you! However, we have had a change of heart on the garden party front. I could feel my parents starting to get a bit stressed about the work involved in getting the garden ready and the decorations etc. So, we have decided to book a local function room that overlooks a river, it has its own bar area, terrace and a dance floor. it was £90 for the room for the afternoon/evening and £180 for their resident DJ so it worked out to be the same as the costs we would have had to hire in tables/chairs/glasses etc. They will also do canapes/fizz etc on arrival and decorate the whole room for us for about £300 but we don't actually have to have any of that if we don't want to but having thought about it that is what we prefer as we don't have to set up or clear away. Because there is a bar the people coming later can pay.

So all in all, even with the fizz, a couple hundred quid behind the bar and nibbles we still save around £300!! I never would have thought it cheaper to book a venue for the evening! It used to be a private club but they have started taking non member bookings so at the moment are quite cheap to get the business, I reckon they will hoik the prices up by next year as the room is nice and apparently the service is good.

So how is your planning going?

Sounds fab raspberry and great price!

Plans moving along thick and fast, have booked the venue which is in the park at the end of our road, have booked the marquee , tables, chairs and crockery. Dress has arrived and fits - just! Looking at a beautiful 1930's Rolls on Saturday. Shall start practising food over the next few weeks. Oh and off to buy rings on Monday! Cheques seem to be flying out of the book left right and centre.

4 months tomorrow! Can't quite believe it's happening.

raspberrytipple · 04/02/2011 14:04

Wow you have really got going now then! So its a June wedding for you then! Lovely, hope the weather is amazing for both of us!

OP posts:
melodyangel · 04/02/2011 14:30

raspberrytipple · 04/02/2011 15:04
