met office say 'Driest Start for more than 80 years'

Though I utterly adore the heat I'm increasingly aware of how dry the ground is becoming.

So a rain watch thread for those who would welcome a little.

Looking for there to be nothing of significance (light bits and pieces) until Sunday when the sw get some, Wales gets a reasonable amount as does nw England upwards. It looks lie a pretty wet prospect. SE remains dry.

se looks unlikely to see much at all until tuesday and even then it may well not be much. Can't rule out the odd thunderstorm bringing a deluge though.

Busy day - back later!

Wales and midlands will see some rain today as a band moves se. It will fizzle and thin out as it moves south but perhaps some light rain lingering tomorrow in the south

We have had a lot of heavy rain for what seems like days now.
Saturday night was quite terrifying with thunder, lightning, heavy rain and winds which brought some tree branches down- there was even a SEPA flood warning for some of the Tayside rivers.

Sun is out today so hopefully it will stay for a few days.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/07/2010 05:43

blimey - the irony of a flood warning. down here the grass is crispy. hope it dries out for you a bit!

Tiny drops of rain in the wind this morning, nothing to help at all though.

We have a hosepipe ban from Friday.

101damnations · 07/07/2010 16:43

No rain again here in Leicestershire. It has been forecast just about every other day for weeks now,but we've had just a few drops.Today a big wodge of rain cloud was shown over us by 3pm,but it didn't arrive.Even established plants in the garden are drooping and looking shrivelled.Tis very windy here though.

The last significant rain was about 8 weeks ago.

mankyscotslass · 07/07/2010 16:45

We had some rain today, enough to wet the ground but not soak it!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/07/2010 20:54

blimey.
down here I had hopes for rain for sat night but they seem to have evaporated.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/07/2010 20:47

Am too tired to look properly at the moment. monday se might get some heavy rain. other than that its still a north south divide through the weekend.

OP posts:
petunia · 08/07/2010 22:04

We've just had some rain ~ just enough to dampen the ground.

101damnations · 08/07/2010 22:25

waves to petunia. It is raining lightly in the county too.
DH says to prepare for a monsoon after the schools break up,because that is when we are going on holiday.

petunia · 09/07/2010 08:53

Yep, we've got an evening wedding reception (so would be nice if there was nice weather in the daytime for the wedding at least) next Saturday (the 17th) and are on holiday, camping in Yorkshire from the Monday. I told DH that this nice weather would break just as we got away!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/07/2010 12:16

I give up trying to work out when it might rain down here every time I look its different.
Wet in scotland today.

if things would magically be watered then I would love this all summer long and right into the autumn where ideally we'd have a series of massive gales, then 3 ft of snow til spring.

101damnations · 09/07/2010 23:27

Anything for Canterbury area on Monday? Ds's Sports Day was postponed because of the last bit of rain we had a couple of weeks ago, and Mondya is the last possible day we can have it. i'd hate it to be cancelled!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/07/2010 09:02

Looks ok for now seeker

am off for a couple of days - hopefully dry ones. 'see' you all when we get back.

OYBBK ~ Have a good time and hope the weather's good!

mankyscotslass · 10/07/2010 10:20

OYBBK have a fab time!

No rain here, warm, sweaty and grey.

A few drops in the wind last night but it never came to anything.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/07/2010 13:15

We did thanks - perfect weather. not boiling but warm enough for shorts and t-shirts even this morning. By the time we got home (a few mins ago) the sky was looking stormy and it is distinctly cool. Plenty of rain in central uk and east anglia under a warning.

mankyscotslass · 12/07/2010 13:40

compo · 12/07/2010 13:49

Loving the sunshine and showers and lower temps this week
last week was far too humid and I had a headache for most of the week
