When is this wind going to die down?!

We’re going on for a week of sustained easterly winds, about 30km/h all day and gusts of up to 60km/h. Gorgeous sunny days that are hitting 20 degrees air temperature but the wind takes it down to 10, you can’t go to the beach because the sea is just so rough and you can’t walk along the sea front because the waves are constantly breaching the sea wall.

I’m sick of it

Where are you?

im in stunning Kent and still glorious sun and not a whiff of wind

PennyPorchetta · 30/04/2026 18:17

I was surprised by the wind today, I’ve been at my desk all day but my wheelie bin was emptied and when I went outside to collect it it had been blown 100 yards down the road!

Attenboroughsmistress · 30/04/2026 18:18

I agree! I enjoy storms and rain but really dislike sun + wind! You can’t enjoy the sun and the wind isn’t cosy.

sunflowersandsunsets · 30/04/2026 18:19

Where are you? It’s gorgeous here in Cumbria.

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 30/04/2026 18:19

I love a strong breeze!

tulippetals · 30/04/2026 18:19

I’m down in the south west. It’s been blowing for days! The buses are all covered in salt water from the sea coming up over the walls

It's been quite windy here in Northants for the last couple of days, washing has dried well though

ExOptimist · 30/04/2026 18:22

I love it! In South Wales and it's been 21 and sunny all day but with a strong wind, it's been windy all week. Washing dries so quickly on the line and I can garden without getting sweaty but still enjoy the sun, for me it's perfect.

Poppypony · 30/04/2026 18:23

My mum and I were just saying we dont remember so many windy days. Proof of which is we both have the same shrub (live in different counties in Midlands) which are delicate and can fall apart in strong winds. This spring we've both had so many days where they've both lost limbs! These plants are years old and have never lost limbs before!

I actually started off on my walk yesterday. Got 5 minutes away, turned round and came home because despite the sun, the wind was so cold! I was just annoyed 😅

I hate the wind with a passion, drives me mad, it's pointless and just batters plants and plasters dust all over the windows and cars!

For me it’s the fact it makes it so cold, you can’t wear any nice dresses and your hair just ends up messy. Plus I got soaked on my run last night

I'm sick of it as well OP. Also in the SW.

My potted olive trees blew over, bin day was carnage today.

Looking out of the window it looks beautiful but then I go out with my cuppa to have a sit in the sun and I have to come in again!

As for getting any sort of exercise I'm either getting a face full of sand or a proper workout struggling against the gusts.

Move to Kent. I wore shorts and a t shirt whilst gardening today

It’s just horrible. It looks gorgeous but then it feels freezing!

I’m on the Sussex coast and yes, the sun is out and the air temp is very warm but it’s been windy for weeks now. And it doesn’t seem to come from one specific direction- more like gusts that swirl in multiple directions so it’s impossible to find a really sheltered spot to sit in. We are quite used to windy weather here but I prefer it when it restricts itself to Autumn and Winter!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 30/04/2026 18:27

Same here, North Yorkshire. Looks absolutely beautiful and if you manage to find somewhere out of the wind it's boiling. Everywhere else you need a jumper on! It's very frustrating (but excellent for drying the laundry).

BorgQueen · 30/04/2026 18:31

It seems to be getting worse year on year, happens every year now, garden comes into bloom and is then obliterated by the wind - I’m fucking sick of it. Can’t open doors or windows because of all the bastard tree pollen, my car is covered in it. 😡
I realised there was something missing from the washing line yesterday, a pair of jeans ended up in a bush down the garden.

Zov · 30/04/2026 18:36

It's annoying me too. I live in a village that is 750 feet above sea level, and it's hard to relax in the garden because of the 35mph to 40mph wind! However, I have been to canal today, and the river yesterday, and they are a lower altitude, and it's less windy down there! Windy in my garden though!

Ohpleeeease · 30/04/2026 18:38

It’s been gusty here for days (also SW). We’ve had bright sun today but couldn’t put the parasol up for fear of it taking off.

MyBraveFace · 30/04/2026 18:42

Also in Yorkshire. I wouldn't mind a warm breeze but the wind here seems to be coming straight from the Arctic.

Tcateh · 30/04/2026 18:46

In deepest Devon here.
It's bloody dangerous and it's freezing cold wind. I can't remember such sustained windy weather in April ever.
I'm at the top of a hill, can barely control the garden door and things are just flying around.

LewishamLass · 30/04/2026 19:05

It's windy in London too! Similar speeds to @tulippetals.
No sea spray but lots of dust and pollen blowing around - it hasn't rained properly for over a month.

TheWildZebra · 30/04/2026 19:10

I’m sorry to say it, but strong winds in the south west and west coasts are due to rising temperatures in the North Atlantic (climate change) which causes shifts in the jet stream which is the band of air that moves across the North Atlantic from the US and Canada. More of this to come in afraid, as our oceans heat up!

Met Office have some useful explainers on this.

miserable I know - I always seem to be cycling into a headwind, whether it’s my commute to or from work it’s ALWAYS FUCKING WINDY 😖😖😪

space99 · 30/04/2026 19:17

Been really windy in Manchester too. Very annoying. My car is covered in dust/sand. Cannot go out for a walk without a light coat or hoodie.

Booooooooom · 30/04/2026 19:20

V windy here too in London and blowing the way that means planes don’t come into Heathrow over London which is great so it’s much quieter!

Not my bit of Kent....I was gardening in joggers and jumper, despite the sunshine.
Been super windy all week. Had to chase my baseball cap down the road earlier!😄
