Met Office have named the first storm of the season - named Agnes. The season runs from the 1st September to the end of August. Ironically we didn't have the first storm of the last season until August.

Warnings are out. Note the impact matrix and details. Some uncertainty of track and intensity, but given that it has been named, it has the potential to induce some amber warnings.

Blowing hard in Scilly, and the Scillonian is cancelled today

Fistralstorm · 27/09/2023 08:43

It's dreary and dark but not too windy here yet.

Fistralstorm · 27/09/2023 08:44

(In Cornwall, obvs)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2023 08:45

And there she is on satellite. She's beautiful. But still potentially quite dangerous.

You might be seeing some chat of a possible sting jet (which I briefly mentioned before). Thankfully, it looks like this occurred over night and over the sea. It looks like the storm has reached peak depth and will be starting to fill (become less deep). This looks to be good news in terms of potential severity.

However, the Met Office warnings still stand. Please heed them.

I'm in Ireland. In Westmeath. Up til about 8am it was freakishly calm. Not a sound. Not even birds. Now it's raining & a little breezy. I work from home (childminder) but have playschool run which is less than a 5 mins walk so not too bad and the school goers are very excited cos they get to wear their rain ponchos I bought them hahaha

BlackeyedSusan · 27/09/2023 09:21

W.mids.

Still calm. Had a light breeze, then still calm and now back to light breeze. More overcast than earlier. Someone has hung their washing out.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 27/09/2023 09:43

In South County Cork. It's awfully wet but there isn't much wind yet.

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/09/2023 10:22

Wind has picked up in the last hour or so here.

borntobequiet · 27/09/2023 10:28

That is a beautiful picture. I often have a few days walking in west Wales in the last few days of September - it can be wonderful weather - couldn’t do it this year, maybe for the best!

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 27/09/2023 10:31

Winds are picking up in Co. Cork.

lostinwales · 27/09/2023 10:33

Checking in from the west coast of Wales, got all my chores done early and am settling in for day of weather watching, how marvellous.

Become v v wet in the last half an hour and the trees are waving around but not too much yet. An awful lot of trees round me though and still very much in full leaf so I will be paying them close attention as the day goes on.

I have a heated blanket, whippets and books, could it be any better?

lostinwales · 27/09/2023 10:33

@borntobequiet not the weather for lovely end of season walks this week!

Tr1skel1on · 27/09/2023 10:47

Starting to pick up in the Irish sea. All our boats cancelled today, not really surprised tbh

DewinDwl · 27/09/2023 11:26

North wales coast. Just started drizzling. Dark and overcast, no breeze.

ParsnipPie · 27/09/2023 11:31

North Devon coast- it’s getting pretty blowy. Bright with no feel of rain yet. A few small branches down.

Fistralstorm · 27/09/2023 11:39

A bit blowy at times 😊

DewinDwl · 27/09/2023 11:58

Heavy rain now. Still no wind.

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 27/09/2023 12:59

Very calm where I am, strangely quiet, very light rain

ListenLinda · 27/09/2023 13:01

Fairly calm here in my little part of West Yorkshire. Looks like the winds are pickinh up a bit. Did ask the MIL if she wanted me to get them a taxi home from school, but no reply yet.

Vebrithien · 27/09/2023 13:03

North Somerset/Wiltshire border here, not a breath of wind, so so still.

Fernticket · 27/09/2023 13:10

Wind starting to get up here in South Wales.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/09/2023 13:16

W Mids
Tops of trees definitely moving now.
Could feel a stiff breeze/light wind outside but not so much that bags blow out the car boot when you open it. Cloudy. No rain yet.

lostinwales · 27/09/2023 13:32

Tree tops really dancing here now.

Love the car boot bag dispersal index of wind strength Grin

IAmcuriousyellow · 27/09/2023 13:39

Blue skies here now, still windy though

Vebrithien · 27/09/2023 13:44

Heavy rain has just started, completely straight down
