Storms for three consecutive days?! Really?

Calling the expertise of @ohyoubadbadkitten

I live in Worthing and have family coming to stay this week. All very excited about the beach etc. just checked the forecast and it’s showing storms every day for four days from Monday to Thursday?! Is this likely? We’ve never had this before and I’m tearing my hair out wondering how on earth to entertain them and their three kids indoors if we have constant downpours.

last time I looked before this it was about a 20% chance of light rain and sun which I could deal with!

any expert wisdom (and hope!) greatly appreciated, thank you!

No expert wisdom, but our family who live in SW France have just had 3 solid days of storms, and we do often seem to get similar weather to them, just a few days later (in SE UK).

Reesewithafork · 04/09/2022 14:11

Nooooo.
I think we’ve only ever had a storm that lasted on and off for a morning since we’ve lived here so I was hoping it was wrong and it would do the usual keep moving along day by day and not actually materialise.

I've just put Ù‹a little info on the warning thread. www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4611470-thunderstorm-warnings

Think of it more as three days of generally ok weather with the occasional extra lively shower. You are in a weather warning area, but even in those areas most won't see storms.

CandyLeBonBon · 04/09/2022 14:19

Ooh I'm in Worthing too - thanks for the warning op!

Reesewithafork · 04/09/2022 14:23

@CandyLeBonBon have you known three days of storms before?! Mind you the weather is getting more extreme

We have it forecast where I am in Somerset, for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. 😱

Photosymphysis · 04/09/2022 14:33

Warnings do not mean definite storms.

We've had loads of warnings here over the last few weeks. I think only one bit of a storm actually swung anywhere near us. It's quite disappointing really!

And the weather in between has ranged from warm downpours to glorious sunshine.

Make sure your family bring jackets and crack on. Even the beaches are warm enough between the showers.

When I moved down here 10 years ago we had the most horrendous storms for a long time - there was that much rainfall that a 'lake' formed at goring gap which stayed there for weeks (my dog could swim in it!) and my garden was partially submerged for what felt like months.

NoodleSnow · 04/09/2022 14:46

There were three consecutive days of storm warnings for Worthing,
just a few weeks ago. It was preceded by several days of heat wave warnings and followed immediately by sea sewage warnings and train strikes.
Our attempts to visit Worthing this summer have clearly been cursed.

Reesewithafork · 04/09/2022 15:43

@NoodleSnow crikey! Did anything come of the warnings (I’m presuming the heat warnings came to fruition based on all the heat waves)

@CandyLeBonBon oh pants! We haven’t lived here very long so are still getting the measure of living by the coast. We are very close to the beach so hoping we can make the most of any dry spells!

We didn’t go to Worthing in the end, but we did get storms elsewhere in Sussex. It wasn’t continuous for days. Just stormy on and off.
Met Office forecast for this week isn’t looking bad - the storms look to be mostly overnight.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 05/09/2022 00:38

Just checking in from Worthing - the weather just kicked off! Windy, really heavy rain and now lots of thunder and lightning. DDog is very confused!

Phrenologistsfinger · 05/09/2022 00:45

I hope so - we really need the rain or next year is going to be dire.

hashbrownsandwich · 05/09/2022 01:00

I'm in Worthing and currently awake due to the epic storm!

WhatWouldHopperDo · 05/09/2022 01:38

Waves to @hashbrownsandwich 😊

generalh · 05/09/2022 01:55

It is a sign! Storms, floods, Truss 😄

Reesewithafork · 05/09/2022 02:12

Yep looks like the forecast is bloody right. Can’t believe it, I’m gutted! It’s not showing any respite from the rain at all until bloody Friday

Let's hope it's not as bad as they suggest. Often it's not. All those storm warnings where it was horrendous, trees fell, and some lost their electricity for days. But it wasn't that bad where we live. Then the recent heatwave was not THAT bad in our area of Surrey. And then they said rain and flooding. We had a bit, but it wasn't that bad. Often I find it's not as bad as they predict.

CandyLeBonBon · 05/09/2022 07:37

Waves to @WhatWouldHopperDo and @hashbrownsandwich

hashbrownsandwich · 05/09/2022 22:42

@CandyLeBonBon and @WhatWouldHopperDo Greetings!

Smashedavacado · 06/09/2022 23:03

I'm not sure the storm warnings have been correct today in Worthing. Had a fantastic swim at Goring at about 5 today just before the rain started. Sea was so warm & the waves great fun. Though have since seen the SAS pollution warning 🫣.
Hope you find lovely ways to occupy your visitors OP.

nomistake · 06/09/2022 23:08

Cooey @WhatWouldHopperDo and @hashbrownsandwich and @CandyLeBonBon @Reesewithafork. I also live in Worthing. But let's keep the joys of that secret yea? (except for the wind)

CandyLeBonBon · 06/09/2022 23:10

Ahhh well @nomistake it depends where you're at eh?

<Waves whilst wondering if we've unknowingly met>

hashbrownsandwich · 08/09/2022 06:39

Still going!

Might take a stroll to Sealane 🤪😂

Mindymomo · 08/09/2022 06:44

I’m in Surrey and we’ve had so much rain. My sun lounge floor is soaking wet where the water has come in under the door. Never had this in over 30 years living here. DH is going to watch golf at Wentworth soon, he’s already soaked from taking dog out.
