We only have a yellow warning on the east coast of Ireland so I don't think it's going to be all that bad.

izzyb6488 · 12/01/2020 17:30

@blackamericanonosugar seems this has been upgraded now to Orange for all Ireland

Thanks izzyb.

cheninblanc · 13/01/2020 08:29

Do we know how bad this will be for the South East?

BlackeyedSusan · 13/01/2020 09:45

W Mids: Eerily quiet and still down here, though clouds are scudding by. Trees and bushes are still.

GloriaSmud · 13/01/2020 09:59

cheninblanc - strongest winds for the SE will be from 6pm-midnight but should pass through fairly quickly. Tomorrow it'll be longer - from 3pm-ish and then overnight. Gusts could reach 40-50mph inland today (stronger on exposed hills and coasts) and 60-70mph tomorrow (again stronger on the hills/coasts.)

BlackeyedSusan - yes, rather quiet here as well (Leicester)

Schools are closed here in the West of Ireland but while it's gusty and wet, it doesn't feel particularly bad yet.

BiddyPop · 13/01/2020 10:11

Currently, in Dublin, the clouds are high and passing overhead rather quickly. Mizzly rain (technical term Grin ) seems to have stopped again at present. There is wind, as while there are no flags on the poles I usually judge by, the lampposts on the edge of the multistorey car park outside my window are swaying - but the 6 tower cranes visible are all pointing in different directions (so either its swirling or not really that strong yet - or some drivers have stupidly locked their cranes to not swing).

While the centre of the low pressure system is currently off the Mayo coast, it is moving slightly north as it comes east, so it looks like it will just skip off the outside of the outer Hebrides rather than going directly over it - although that still means pretty hefty winds!

What I am looking at is more the effect of the low pressure combined with a high (springs) tides meaning a greater chance of coastal flooding as both wind whipping up the water and low pressure meaning water rises to fill the vacuum, combine to make already high tides even higher.

BlackeyedSusan · 13/01/2020 10:57

W Mids: Looked out the window about 5 minutes ago and now trees and bushes are beginning to move. Grey white moving from SWish clouds.

cheninblanc · 13/01/2020 11:17

Still and sunny in South East London, looks a nice day!

BiddyPop · 13/01/2020 11:35

Cranes now all aligned, cloud has turned a lot darker grey from almost white, and dropped down a little and rain has started. Visibility is still good out my office window (north-west), but out the other side I can't see the mountains anymore (to the southwest so heavy rain is definitely imminent).

Dublin Bay buoy currently indicating that the gusts are strong (33-40 knots) but constant wind is not too bad - only 8 knots just now, and 12 knots 20 minutes ago. Wave heights have also picked up to 3.4m, so that is a lot!

GloriaSmud · 13/01/2020 12:48

BiddyPop · 13/01/2020 15:01

Sunshine and almost clear skies in Dublin now

Igneococcus · 13/01/2020 16:01

The wind is howling outside but the skies cleared in the last few minutes enough for a sun set. Northern Argyll

I was supposed to be doing photography at a tennis club this afternoon, it's so wet and windy that I had to cancel it.

cheninblanc · 13/01/2020 17:20

Cold and windy here now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2020 18:25

Well done Gloria :) running a bit behind in life atm. Started one for tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2020 18:26

Tomorrow isnt storm Brendan but is a different system.

Drabarni · 13/01/2020 18:30

It's just stopped raining here I'm NW, quite breezy but seems to be calming.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2020 20:50

We've a very defined squall line moving south east, with an interesting feature that moved through Lincolnshire and is now moving through Norfolk.

Any storm damage reports in that area please?
