Hurrah! It's that time of year when two amateurs update with the latest forecasts for snow potential.

Please don't use this for any planning that matters, especially not this far out in advance when it's in fantasy forecast land.

At the moment the only model I can see that goes out that far is the experimental CFS model, which sadly is looking mild and unsettled.

But tomorrow is another day.

Hi @OhYouBadBadKitten - any idea what we'll have on Xmas Eve in SE? We have an outdoor event that evening (East Surrey) and all the sites say different things at the moment. Thanks :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/12/2019 11:10

I'm not surprised all the forecasts say different things! so do the models I'm afraid. I think you might get away with it, just about.

I've started a separate thread for the flood warnings.

Christmas Eve - perhaps some light showers, but I'm hopeful it might be a recently rare drier day.

Christmas day - dry.

Boxing day - some model confusion but GFS and ECM seem keen to bring in more rain and lots of it.

Afternoon, just watching the tornado footage on the news - scary. She's just said it could have been caused by a combination of strong wind and rain (funny that)....... Anyway, back to the Christmas weather. We are off to Whipsnade Zoo again on Boxing Day for my birthday - we went last year and had a great time and as it's one of the few places open on Boxing Day unless you want to go shopping we are going again. Netweather are saying the day will start wet but will clear up with the hope of sunshine about 3pm ish. Looks like it will be cold so we will have to wrap up warm but that's no problem.

Do you agree with what it is saying?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/12/2019 17:34

If anyone was in the area at the time the tornado hit please can you pm me or report it
www.torro.org.uk/report_form.php

Did they really say that tornadoes are caused by a combo of wind and rain? Because that's a load of rubbish!

It's too early to give any timings on Boxing day I'm afraid. Be prepared for plenty of wet.

Met office two week long range forecast seems to have nothing to report.

Christmas day looks bright for us in Hampshire. Hope all the wet weather stops for everyone Star.

Perihelion · 25/12/2019 12:38

Woke up to frost and can see snow on the hills towards Glenshee. Not a proper white Christmas, but good enough Xmas Grin

Perihelion · 25/12/2019 18:51

No Met Office warnings, but getting icey on the roads in Fife. Have seen a gritter out. Slow, careful drive home.

GloriaSmud · 25/12/2019 19:33

No White Christmas then but at least it's been a beautiful day here (Leicester) Looks like it's going to be a chilly night though, 0.9C at the moment.

Merry Christmas everyone Xmas Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/12/2019 19:50

It's a nice cold night here in the south :)

Happy Christmas everyone.

We might be in for some bumpy weather early in the new year.

I can't see the snow towards Glenshee. Did have some ice this morning but it melted. Made nice tree patterns on my car windscreen... not sure the picture shows it that well.

It's 9 degrees, at night, in Scotland, in winter. This is strange. No wonder there is no snow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2019 23:12

Temperatures could climb into the low to mid teens in some parts of western Scotland in the next few days.

Forecast not to drop below 9C in Edinburgh for the next 48 hours Hmm and windy.
Where's my snow? Angry

Mrsmadevans · 28/12/2019 20:48

It's been very mild here in SE Wales 10c , no rain or wind

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 30/12/2019 09:52

No snow Sad It's a beautiful sunny day here today and I'm glad of it after all the grey days of late.
When do you think we'll get snow?

GloriaSmud · 30/12/2019 20:32

Nothing really showing up at the moment, BercowsFestiveFlamingo. According to the GFS, the temperatures vary from the sort thing we've got now to quite chilly/frosty but mostly dry. There's the chance of snow for hilly areas maybe the weekend after next, especially in Scotland but that's about it for the moment and waaaaay into the future.

Mrsmadevans · 31/12/2019 11:10

That's not what l want to hear, nevermind. At least it's not raining here in SEWales but l would love some snow for NYE 🤗🎆🥂💖

GloriaSmud · 31/12/2019 11:35

Well, further to my post yesterday, the GFS is showing a bit of a cold snap from this weekend! Be interesting to see how this develops....

Mrsmadevans · 31/12/2019 16:14

Fingers crossed then Gloria

GloriaSmud · 02/01/2020 11:22

Cold snap has disappeared for this weekend Xmas Sad
Mid next week looks like temperatures could get into double figures and after that, it looks chilly (so possibility of something wintry) but that's waaaaay into the future....
(Perhaps we should have a new thread with the title 'Winter 2020 - will it ever snow?!'

Happy New Year everyone!

Mrsmadevans · 02/01/2020 16:51

Gloria l think that is probably a good idea Smile , looks like the bulbs will be coming up early again this year judging by the temp/weather Grin followed by snow in April l expect Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2020 22:39

I saw a rose bush in flower today.
