Just had an Amber Alert e-mailed to me as a result of a severe geomagnetic storm.
Current Aurora forecast is here. Shock

Jaqueline - I don't think I will go to H tonight & it's looking bloody misty here atm.

But I hope to go on Friday all being well.

In case we don't see any aurora here in the UK, posters might like to take a look at some of the EU aurora websites/webcams that we use over on the 'armchair aurora watching' thread.

The Aurora Service
Abisko ~ usually a good one for aurora watching!
Porjus1
Icelandic webcams

The EU bit of the Aurora Service seems to be broken Sad and Abisko's all cloudy at the moment Sad Porjus1 though is having a fine display! Smile
I have found some Shetland webcams here so perhaps something can be spotted there but they all seem to have light pollution of some sort.

I really hope the cloud clears - weather forecast looking good for Leeds tonight.
And Spaceweather shows the auroral oval has come well south.
AurorawatchUK is showing red kP6! Should be visible from much of hte North of England if only the cloud clears.

Going aurora hunting with the Young Donki tonight!

What am I actually looking for, is it green? The sky is looking quite reddish but I am in the south west

Bah. Spent 20 minutes freezing on my driveway looking north. Nothing to see apart from a red glow. I'm probably too far south (Surrey) and there's too much light pollution.

PseudoBadger · 17/03/2015 23:58

I drove 100 mile round trip to find clear dark skies. Nothing Sad

Perihelion · 18/03/2015 15:29

Pseudo I've done stupid drives to find clear skies in the past, pre cloud radar and Facebook. But did catch the amazing aurora in 2003(?).

Didn't bother last night as it seemed way to misty and cloudy, but am working tonight so will maybe go on a wee aurora adventure away from the streetlights after.
