Rather a nasty looking storm up there for you with torrential rain (perhaps 150mm in places) and severe gales.
met office warning

thanks kitten: flying home sunday pm.. should I be worried?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/10/2014 22:03

I think It could be a bit rough Oricella, esp if it's into Glasgow.

We're on Skye, heading for Harris. It's quite windy! Our ferry today was cancelled and we're hoping that tomorrow's later one will go ahead, as we've had to book into a hotel that we hadn't budgeted for...

Lovely DH has gone out again to get nappies after driving us here all day.

fuckweasel · 25/10/2014 19:12

sewingandcakes looks like the Uig-Tarbert direct ferry is cancelled already for tomorrow, but may be able to go to Lochmaddy then Tarbert if they run at all. Good luck.

We are on the West now and it is really wild out there. Fire is on and torches on standby for the power cuts. If it lasts into Monday night the children will be delighted with missing school.

Grimfox · 25/10/2014 19:28

Reporting in from North coast of Lewis - has been very noisy/windy outside, with heavy showers. But no worse than we had earlier this week. Wind seems to have died down a bit just now.

Wouldn't be surprised if we have a powercut - always seem to happen at weekends (and at night of course)

There are amber warnings out now. I don't ever recall a warning for over 200mm of rain. That's 8 inches in old money. Very very nasty.

Roseformeplease · 25/10/2014 20:22

Fortunately, it is all hills around here so it should just end up in the sea.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/10/2014 21:24

Ermmm, Boscastle is by the sea....

OP posts:
Perihelion · 25/10/2014 23:14

200mm is a lot, but this is an area which can get 4 metres of rain annually, if you're up a hill, facing West..........I loved living (and working in an outdoors job) there, but have since been unable to buy any jacket or coat if it isn't waterproof Grin Am still slightly suspicious of gortex as it never seemed to have the allday staying power of oilskins.

Bewooohooove · 25/10/2014 23:16

It's really squally already here (south west of Glasgow)
Glad I don't have to go out anywhere tomorrow as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/10/2014 23:28

So that's a 20th of the annual rainfall in one day perihelion Grin

Good point OYBBK Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/10/2014 09:03

How are things up there this morning?

OP posts:
Roseformeplease · 26/10/2014 09:21

Really wild and very, very wet but we still have power! The tide also looks fairly high and the waves are big so Iam glad I am 50m back from the shoreline and up a hill. Also, double glazing - one of the wonders of the world.

Is it weird that sleeping through a storm next to a window gave me a really, really vivid zombie dream?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/10/2014 09:33

Zombie dream Grin

Glad you still have power.

Perihelion · 26/10/2014 11:00

Getting a bit windier in Edinburgh, 52mph gusts are the most recent, although have had gusts of about 40mph for the last 24+ hours. More windy than Monday.

Igneococcus · 26/10/2014 11:11

There is already so much surface water on the roads here in Argyll I don't think we can take anymore. Took the children swimming in the morning and had to drive through a few flooded bits.

Grimfox · 26/10/2014 11:48

Same as Rose here. Was pretty noisy at 3.30 when I got up (thanks dd), but has calmed right down. We look out over where the Minch joins the Atlantic, and the sea is big! Great viewing when you're safe and warm inside though.

Brew

Power still on too. Dare I attempt a roast?

Roseformeplease · 26/10/2014 13:08

Road into Fort William from the South closed near Corran Ferry (land slip) and no ferries running so the only way to the Fort is via A9 Spean Bridge. Lots and lots of surface water.

Zombies were terrifying. Perhaps I shouldn't have read "The Girl with all the Gifts"

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/10/2014 15:33

Sounds like a book for my list!

Having spent my summer hols up there it's nice to be able to picture where you are talking about.

OP posts:
Roseformeplease · 26/10/2014 20:16

Where were you exactly? This summer was so amazing, you would not believe the difference now!

GloriaSmud · 26/10/2014 21:07

Trafficscotland has a section showing current road incidents here. 'Orrible autumnal weather for the area and going by the metoffice warnings, looks like it hangs about 'til at least Tuesday.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/10/2014 22:10

Was in Fort William but drove around a bit and got a boat to the Small Isles. 'Twas 29c when we climbed Ben Nevis. I got a touch of heat exhaustion!

OP posts:
Roseformeplease · 27/10/2014 18:41

I can usually see the Small Isles from my sitting room. Not over the last week!
