Weather warnings part 3 - February storms.

Really hoped we wouldnt need another thread so soon.

Tomorrow we have one dangerous storm with winds potentially 90mph off welsh coasts, 80mph inland and hitting Ireland very hard too.

met office warnings for heavy rain (exactly where we dont need it but also hitting western scotland), snow, perhaps even down to lower ground at times over night even pretty far south and storm force winds. Also widespread gales across England.

Then friday night into Saturday we have another potentially damaging low. The models have really struggled with this one and it needs a careful eye keeping on it.

Because the winds look so bad tomorrow for some (enough in the amber areas for me to suggest that you consider whether your journey is essential), I'll be logging on around 7:15am to update. My biggest concern is western Wales in the afternoon. However the track may change as the storm develops so the amber warning area may shift. It is possible that the met office may issue some red warnings close to the morning.

Looking further on, although storms may track to their more usual position (north of scotland) as the month goes on, unfortunately the rain looks set to continue, with little in the way of respite.

Ok, I have to go now. I am going to be having a very wet and windy walk. I'll be back about 2ish. Stay safe all.

Wind really starting to pick up here in South Liverpool, I have just been and collected most of the toys out the back garden. I am very concerned about the building Site with the pallets and other bits of scrap wood flung on top of a portacabin directly opposite us!

West Wilts here. Blowing a gale and peeing it down. Hoping it clears for the school run.

We've got our heating on too - only the 4th time so far this winter in the daytime but the wind is blowing very cold.

My thoughts are with those of you who have been thoroughly hammered by Weather, lately. We've got away with very little, so far, this year.

That's said, we're "only" in an amber area and it's already howling through the back street. Just been to collect the dustbin, before it blows away. And we have an inch of snow slowly being turned into crunchy slush by the rain. Hoping it's gone by hometime, as it's going to be hard enough pushing DS2's Maclaren Major against 50mph gusts without resistance under the wheels, too.

And just a reminder to people that twitter is usually awash with local news, travel and police feeds, so you can keep track of travel disruption etc.

Your regional BBC site often has a live travel disruption map, too, which tends to be a little more informative than the traffic England one, as it covers a wider network of roads. Your local council website may also have travel updates, which can be handy for keeping track of local disruption due to fallen trees/power lines, minor flooding, etc.

Starsandunicorns it must be very worrying for you. Would his employer cancel his trip, especially given the coverage on news channels? Good luck.

Stars and unicorns ~ does your DP really have to go out? I don't know whether you're covered by a red or amber warning but they're saying that anyone in the red warning area shouldn't make journeys unless it's absolutely necessary.

Can someone tell me what 'squally' means?

West Wales coast here, tipped it down this morning and a helluva lot of surface water and debris on the roads.. am just about dried out from the school/ shopping run.
Although the rains stopped, the wind is scarily gathering pace, although it has been bad all morning tbh.
(No, we didn't even attempt to cross The Preselis earlier, as the van was being pushed about on normal roads as it was)

I'm in the NW (Manchester/Oldham) and the wind is really picking up.

I'm working from home today but kind of wish I was in work as I keep staring out the window at the huge tree rocking back and forth. Sad

Swansea council are reporting 92 mph winds off Mumbles head. It does sound bad outside. I went up to the loft to check the velux windows and the noise was tremendous.

Flootshoot ~ there's quite a good definition of 'squally' here.

Stormy now in Bucks - wind howling down the chimney... and 45 degree rain. It's looking like its going to be at its peak for the school run Confused. Contemplating getting there ridiculously early to be able to park a bit nearer!

Absolutely chucking it down in Surrey and three of our fence panels are looking decidedly wobbly . . .

Wondering if we have the squally thing going on (SE). Pretty sure the gusts are as much as in the previous big storm(s) but they were not forecast to be more than about 30mph.

Tipping it down. Thanks to this thread I went out and moved the garden stuff in about an hour ago when it really was not this bad.

This is scary now. My post box has blown off the wall and the drain cover was blowing across the garden. Loads of schools in Pembs have closed but my DCs schools are still open. I just want everyone home and safe. On the plus side I've been to Tesco for essentials (wine and a cooked chicken) so we'll be okay if the power goes off.

Wind is really picking up her in the Manchester/Tameside area - it's bin day and there have a been a few empty bins getting blown about.

We have taken down the full size basketball hoop and made everything as secure as possible.

DD is supposed to be going on a trip with Guides to a firestation this evening - I hope it gets cancelled.

Eeek, starting again on the lizard with more wind and rain/hail. Looks like it's really closing in.
