If a 90mph wind is on the way DON'T PUT YOUR WHEELIE BIN OUT!

Half my neighbours have already lined the pavements with wheelie bins and bags of recycling, as it is our bin day tomorrow. The bins will bowl down the road and smash into cars and the recycling will end up as a storm of litter.

I am surprised that amongst the endless doom laden chatter on the BBC and other radio stations there aren't some very specific common sense tips.

The whole point of having wind chimes is you hear them when its windy Grin
We have several and they are tinkling nicely atm.

I've taken mine in. It will be bad enough fighting off the zombie hordes without adding irate neighbours driven mad by windchimes.

Zombies? Do we need to update our Zombie plans?

Blackpool regularly has 80-90mph winds? Nice!

I'm seeing the storm as a chance to test my Zombie Plan and my OFRS.

80-90mph winds are like a light breeze up here

morethan you know your neighbours are likely to batter you with them if you don't take them in, and the zombies will come for YOU first. They like a tinkly sound

SilverApples -I have brought my camping stove and cannisters in from the shed, taken the camping lanterns out of the loft, looked at the ridiculous number of IKEA candles we have stored under the stairs, charged everyone's phones and the iPad - and the electric toothbrushes. Is there anything else we should do?

I bought some of those 'look what we Found' pouches of rare breed pork meat balls on offer for £1 in Sainsbury's for next year's camping, but they could be good to go in the OFRS? We haven't much in the way of high calorie emergency snacks except a net of Halloween chocolate balls.

We've put ours in the garage but I'm Angry at the ones that are still out. I won't be happy if one damages my car. I will hold the bin to ransom until they pay for the damages. Grin

Blu using camping stoves indoors is a big no-no because of carbon dioxide isn't it?

Report
octopusinastringbag · 27/10/2013 16:04

Idiot me, carbon monoxide. DD is sitting across the room telling me about her carbon dioxide stuff for chemistry.

Why would you put your bin out tonight Confused. The streets will end up with litter down them.

Mine are tucked out of the way propping up my wobbly fence.

Hmmm. (re CO). But we have gas flames on the cooker....

Anyway, my sister has told me I am overreacting(surely not! Grin) because the winds are only 80-90 mph, and the winds in 1987 that blew down 15 million trees were 120mph.

I still wonder why so many people in our street, who have side alleys and front gates and bin stores) have put their bins on the street. And the flimsy sacks they give us for the recycling.

I am having this discussion with my DH at the moment. I am thinking not to put it out and then phone for a missed collection tomorrow - he thinks we should put it out as it then becomes the council's problem Halloween Hmm

I don't want it to blow around the road and maybe damage somebody's car as I would be mighty pissed off it that happened to me.

Have looked at the council website and that's as much use as a chocolate teapot so am none the wiser... Have also tweeted by doubt anybody works on a Sunday!

If very strong gusts of wind blow along the street, the bins and recycling bags will blow over/onto the road/spill......

Blu · 27/10/2013 20:46

aaargh - my helpful neighbour has just put my bin out on the street! (we both keep our bins in the side alley between our houses)

Yep posted about this last night.. Loads of neighbours put their wheelie bins and recycling bins out last night. I didn't. One wheelie bin went walkabouts everything else ok

They have already collected te recycling (so I've missed it!) just put my wheelie bin out. No news on council website or twitter feed (thought that was the point of these forms of communication Hmm)

Sorry to hear about your tree Blu!

chocoluvva · 28/10/2013 08:40

Goodness! A tree down but the wheelie bins are still standing. Hope you get the tree sorted asap Blu. What a drama!

When it's very windy here the wheelie bins get blown about all over the place.

Shame about the council website.
