We aren't even in an amber warning area, I hope people don't have it worse than this, you wouldn't be able to breathe outside!

Good gracious Lost! that's sounds rather scary! Still to arrive here, we are under the cloud edges as so to speak (I know there is a technical term and its gone!)

I'm taking a bit of a break from my work stuff, to have a look round the weather sites before I need to get on. damn real life!

Wind now very high in South Derbyshire, and the rain is lashing. Just in time for the school run. Lovely

Timings seem slower than I posted earlier for those in the south - perhaps by as much as two hours, not reaching weymouth until 5pm, so those along the south coast east of there have it yet to come despite the deteriorating conditions.

still keeping an eye on Saturday nights storm but unfortunately its one of those little ones where depth and position make a massive difference to the areas that will be affected (and by how much) - but it looks to be a southern affair

I'm in the North West and It's very very windy here, I could barely open my back door earlier. Only a bit of rain so far. Hope everyone down south is ok.

Very windy here today. metal railing between mine and neighbours front yards fell down and I've rescued their bins from the road eleventy million times. Thankfully back garden with large fences is really sheltered.

SantasStrapOn · 22/11/2012 15:36

No, I'm not in the amber, or yellow areas, and the weather is hideous. Lots of debris flying about, trees thrashing, and about 100m from me the road is flooded right across for about 8m. Right over the kerb and pavements.

Don't even want to think about what it's like in the amber areas, if it's like this in the 'nothing to worry about' bits. :(

Gales here but no very heavy rain yet. Schools closed early.

I think the whole of Somerset is about to float away. It's terrible here in Taunton. The river was incredible yesterday and is set to break it's banks again tonight. There are lots of sandbags out and the police are preventing access to anywhere near the river. Yesterday the water was inches from flooding the town which hasn't happened for 50 years and there are more defences now. The wind is really getting up and it feels quite scary out there. So glad DS is home from school and we can batten down the hatches. So to the person at the top of the thread who thinks rain is nothing to worry about, come down here and bring you wellies and a mop. I might need it - I'm only 200m from the river!

It's been windy here all day, in Greater Manchester, but dry.

About 10 minutes ago it started raining heavily, and we have just had really heavy hail.

Car alarms going off in the street!

oh matey :( I'm sorry that is being so worrying for you.

I'm only measuring gusts to around 30mph at the moment, but thats not bad for a home sited anemometer. Locally we are gusting to 45mph but I think that will rise quite significantly as the squall line reaches us, which wont be for a few hours yet. This thing is moving slooowly!

Very windy here in Wiltshire. The massive beech tree I have feared for years that's on our route home has partially come down - fortunately no one hurt and the local estate forestry workers were on the scene when I left school. Had to go long way round.

River in Chippenham has burst it's banks, never known it do that.

I think we have been through the worst of it.
Wish I had posted earlier on this thread.
We had a very mini landslide round our way. Would advise people to be alert.

bureni, for the record I consider OYBBK's forecasts to be more accurate than the BBC Weather forecasts.

So far so good today. Workmen have been incredible and have our living room floor dug up (again!) already! We have been on a flood warning all day, and there was no rain so was feeling pretty good about things. Rain has just started and I can tell just by the sound of it on the windows that we will flood again tonight.

So it's back into temp accommodation for us again :-( life has been pretty full on recently even without the flood and the pull to be able to just come home and relax us strong, but I guess it is a way off yet.

It may sound a bit trite, but it's not as bad as it sounds, at the end of the day it's all just stuff. We are all fine, and are a close loving family. Its one of those things life throws at you, and the insurance company has been great so lovely shopping trips ahead!

You are brilliant drmelons - I hope you know that!

disruption across the uk
police are asking people not to travel in north wales. 5 inches of rain has fallen in some places (according to r4) and lots of wind and rain damage.

And its still not started here yet!

We're in the south west and the weather is abysmal, winds are strong and we had one hell of a lashing of rain earlier, lower parts of the town will be flooded again and no doubt the sea will be taking over the seafront roads.

I'm lucky as I'm on a hillside overlooking the sea and it looks really choppy, there's a lot of boats sheltering for safety tonight, it's really unusual for there to be so many!

We travelled from Wokingham to South Devon today - had to come because it's my Dad's funeral in Plymouth tomorrow. It was wet and windy on the M4/M5 but not too bad till we got to Kingsbridge - the estuary is normally calm as a lake, today there were actual waves and the water was pouring through the bridge.

The real rain didn't hit till about 5.45, though - even my sister and BIL said it was bad, and they have lived in Thailand and Indonesia, so they know what rain is like!

Now trying to figure out how to get DS and DD down here - they were planning to come by train tomorrow morning, but the line was flooded between Taunton and Exeter this morning and I don't suppose it's got any better since!
