9pm bbc2 will it snow?
I feel obliged to watch it....

OP posts:
Pascha · 06/11/2011 16:24

It uses the pseudo-word Snowmageddon which puts me off slightly...

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 06/11/2011 16:28

Oh no - this will only feed my unhealthy-for-the-love-of-God-please-don't-let- it-snow obsession. It also coincides with Upstairs Downstairs Abbey. This is Not Good.

OhYouBadBadkitten · 06/11/2011 16:30

I know Pascha.... but I know that tomorrow I'll be asked about it endlessly so I might as well grit my teeth and watch.

I cannot watch (Downton) but I would read a summary tomorrow Grin

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 06/11/2011 16:36

grit my teeth - geddit??

Grin

I won't be allowed to watch it anyway so I will be watching for the panic threads tomorrow instead Grin

Collision · 06/11/2011 17:02

You must watch it for us KittyKat.

I will be Downton-ing!

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 06/11/2011 17:04

I don't see it as panic - more planning for the inevitable when I shall be stranded in my car on the rural A road I travel to work, cold, frozen and hungry, miles away from the DCs who will be the only ones left at school and nursery while all the other pupils have been collected by their parents, whilst DH is involved in a multiple pile-up on the motorway caused by some idiot who insisted on driving at 80mph in a blizzard.

SuePurblybilt · 06/11/2011 17:13

I'm with Maisie - I travel on very rural backroads with no mobile signal in very hilly parts of Devon. I am slightly panicked about snow Grin

If I get advance warning I can sort food and lesson plans and stuff.

OhYouBadBadkitten · 06/11/2011 17:19

I will sacrifice myself then and watch it.

Suepurb autosocks is what you need. Easy to put on and take off. Got us out of a very tricky situation half way up a hill. We popped them on and off we went.

mankyscotslass · 06/11/2011 17:22

I can say with some certainty that it will Not snow in Tameside.

Because I have 2 snow shovels and a load of salt ready to go. Grin

I am going to record it.

SuePurblybilt · 06/11/2011 17:28

Thanks OYBBK, I have bookmarked it. Have to know my tyre size to order and I haven't a clue, will check in the morning!

Oakmaiden · 06/11/2011 17:28

How do you get car socks on, though? I mean, you can't ask them to lift up their wheels and hold still for you, can you?...

OhYouBadBadkitten · 06/11/2011 17:33

:) Its very easy when you are stuck on a hill cos you pull them over the top then roll back a teeny bit. Same principle when not on a hill but you might need to clear a bit of snow from under the wheel to give yourself some roll room.
You must take them off as soon as you hit tarmac as tarmac shreds them really quickly. Ours got a little bit holey but still worked really effectively.

Also, have just ordered another pair of yaktrax for dd. We had some for ourselves and they were splendid. I could literally dance on sheet ice. Very expensive but I figured it was better than a broken arm.

Snorting at the idea of OYBBK nudging the car in the ribs and pulling on its mudflaps until it picks up a wheel Grin

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 06/11/2011 17:42

Thanks for that BadKitten - will also check my tyre size in the daylight! They look great.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 06/11/2011 17:47

Can I ask a stupid question about the autosock - do I need them for all 4 tyres or just the front 2 (given it's front wheel drive?)

Just priced them - approx £70 for my best of a people carrier. Do they really work in thick, proper, Scottish snow? Not just your southern lite stuff? Grin

OhYouBadBadkitten · 06/11/2011 17:51

Just on the front 2 Maisie. They arent snow chain substitutes - best for packed snow I think.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadkitten · 06/11/2011 17:52

(and snort at southern lite stuff - last couple it has really been proper up to the knee stuff)

It's snowing in Glossop right now. OYBBK - shock isn't it.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 06/11/2011 17:56

Oh, it's been hideous, hasn't it? Although my sister did send us photos of the 'snow' in her village in Cambs - I was very jealous!

mankyscotslass · 06/11/2011 18:54

Pan, I hope it's not, my DSIL and DN will be pissed off in the extreme! The walk dow to the train station last year nearly did them in. Grin

Pan · 06/11/2011 18:58

Oh it was fab last year! My next door neighbour got out his skis and we took turns skiing down Hadfield high street. No skilift back up, mind, but it was still fun.

mankyscotslass · 06/11/2011 19:37
Grin

All DN got was a badly twisted ankle walking from her home in Old Glossop down to the station.

I think she she should have just got on a tray and tobogganed down the hill!
