ROSAT to come down between 21st Oct and 25th. Hard hats at the ready everyone Grin

OYBBK - the bit about the 3 day confidence interval was ambiguously written - it could also mean any time from 18th-25th.

And a 1.7 ton heat resistant telescope does sound rather concerning!

(BTW - did anyone ever find any debris from the last one? Or was it written off as lost at sea / in Canada?)

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 17/10/2011 08:18

true about the confidence interval :)
and (slowly waking up!!) that means from tomorrow onIt is thought that UARS spread itself across the pacific.
This one does sound rather more problematic!

Metal dustbin's and wine at the ready then Grin

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 17/10/2011 15:05

Jolly good - important to be prepared!

EdithWeston · 17/10/2011 19:27

ROSAT: that'll be rioja, ouzo, sancerre, armagnac and tokay then?

whomovedmychocolate · 17/10/2011 19:29

I thought it wasn't headed our way? Confused

EdithWeston · 17/10/2011 19:43

It orbits up to 53 degrees north. That covers all of Wales, most of England, and most of Ireland.

whomovedmychocolate · 17/10/2011 19:56

Well that sounds unfair. Scotland never get anything interesting like this Grin

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 17/10/2011 20:42

but scotland gets about 30 foot of snow at times slight exaggeration

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadGhostie · 18/10/2011 07:23

seems to have been tightened to between the 21st and the 23rd - the largest component being a rather large mirror.

OP posts:
EdithWeston · 18/10/2011 07:33

So it will come with Rapture!

And we'll all be able to check out hair in the cellar.

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 18/10/2011 07:51

Twas a thought that crossed my mind Grin

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 19/10/2011 18:53

They reckon either the 22nd or the 23rd now. So - hard hats ready for this weekend!

Am on holiday in a static caravan near Sidmouth and feeling a little vulnerable to falling space debris as didn't pack my hardhat. I have started to dig underneath the caravan for protection and put lots of wine essential supplies there ready for if it looks like it's heading our way!

ColdSancerre · 19/10/2011 21:25

I'm here, I have Sancerre (well ocado are delivering some tomorrow) and Brie. Whose cellar are we hiding in and does everyone have bins and straws?

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 20/10/2011 07:48

I have hay????

OP posts:
ColdSancerre · 20/10/2011 07:57

You can't drink wine through a piece of hay but I'm sure the hay will come in useful for something.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/10/2011 11:29

Funnily enough while driving to school on Wednesday at 8am I saw something that looked like a large mirror (a big silver circle in the sky) with a white trail behind it - it came down fast then appeared to slow as it hit the upper atmosphere. I have no idea if it was a bit of space junk or what but the DC and a few of their friends saw it - it looked very big. Much bigger than a falling star. Was quite irksome to be frank. We lost sight of it after half an hour when it went behind the clouds.

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 20/10/2011 14:34

Very strange wmmc. I have no idea what that would be! rosat orbits the earth every 90 mins, so it wouldnt be that. Most strange!

OP posts:
EdithWeston · 20/10/2011 14:38

Aren't most UFOs meteorological balloons?

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 20/10/2011 15:24

I did wonder about that (some at night are chinese lanterns) but the description just doesnt seem to quite fit.

AngryFeet · 20/10/2011 15:30

Grrrr I am out in London getting pissed for my birthday celebrations - stay away from Clapham bits of satellite, I'm warning you!!

EdithWeston · 20/10/2011 17:01

Probably a test flight of something military and stealthy then?

BTW: any further refinements of crash time?

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 20/10/2011 17:13

perhaps Grin

spaceweather reckons many experts say 23rd, with early in the day being thought to be most likely.

OP posts:
EdithWeston · 20/10/2011 18:08

Have you tried the smartphone ROSAT tracker? Is it any good?
