here

looks like there may be a deep low crossing the UK Monday bringing potentially gale or even severe gale force winds to northern England and Scotland. of course the track and development are uncertain at this point but if it comes off it could potentially quite damaging. One to watch.

the weather here in South Lanarkshire is GRIM.
so fed up with it

GloriaSmud · 23/05/2011 13:29

This has just made the lunchtime news, perhaps an indication how seriously it's being taken.
Hope everyone in the weather warning area keeps safe.

midnightexpress · 23/05/2011 13:33

In S Lanarkshire too and it is windy out there.

Loads of branches coming off the trees - I think it's always worse when they're in leaf, isn't it? nThe wind can't get through the branches so easily, so off they come.

HarrietJones · 23/05/2011 13:42

In Cumbria & on the coast. Beento my parents this am and struggled big time with the car doors & I grew up there used to strong winds!

Nor so bad at ours but I'm glad we have a walled garden!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2011 14:18

It is worse when they are in leaf. Please all take care up there. I think that you are probably reaching the peak of the winds over the next 3-4 hours then it should ease.

Also - Interesting squall line feature making its way down the uk - in a line NE-SW. As it goes through please note any signs of unusual damage or weather. It looks rather interesting on the radar.

Had horrendous rain/hail and high winds about 40 minutes ago here, but seems to have settled back to a bit wet and very windy here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2011 14:38

aha! - that was the squall line manky Grin

Another one in S Lanarkshire! I've been in a shopping centre for the last hour and will shortly be venturing out with the buggy. Although ds2 will want to walk he's going to be strapped in to stop him blowing away. Will just have to hang on to ds1 when I get him from nursery.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2011 15:18

yep Gloria :)
Blimey IrishQueen - sounds quite dramatic!
good luck ruunervt!

Thought it might have been OyBBK! Grin

It's settled here to just a bit breezy now, dry and sunny intervals, it's actually a fair bit warmer too, or at least it feels like it!

NettoSuperstar · 23/05/2011 15:25

Rubbish all over here too on the Cylyde, and DD's school roof has been damaged so it's closed tomorrow.
My fence looks like it'll blow down at any second.

GentleOtter · 23/05/2011 15:27

I am really quite scared now.

The wind is picking stones up and they are hitting the window.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2011 15:27

It sounds rough there Netto - I hope the school roof didnt cause any risk to anyone?

HarrietJones · 23/05/2011 15:55

Met office saying 40 mph for us but it doesn't seem that bad. We could just be used to wind Hmm

BPisme · 23/05/2011 15:58

NE area here, very gusty. Had one bit of mad rain, but now it's mostly wind. Blowing terracotta pots full of soil over, so pretty full on.

NettoSuperstar · 23/05/2011 16:05

No, no one hurt by roof but they need to get it checked tomorrow to make sure it's safe.
They've said to check Council website for further info, but definitely closed tomorrow.

GloriaSmud · 23/05/2011 16:25

Ah thought that was the squall you meant!
It was quite blustery from 1pm ish and then during the school run, we had that horrible fine drizzly rain as well. Just had a real downpour (luckily, after we got home) and the wind seems to have eased.

Jbck · 23/05/2011 16:33

Building where I work shaking all day today & I sit at one of the highest most exposed corners, we all felt seasick for quite a while.

Trees blown down all over and my loft hatch is sitting on my landing carpet. Thankfully blew out as I opened front door and no one else was in the house so no real damage.

North Lanarkshire is very windy woo...........Shock

GentleOtter · 23/05/2011 16:40

The ridge has been blown from our roof and we have lost some guttering and drainpipes. The local roads are blocked by fallen trees.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2011 16:43

good grief jbck and gentleotter Shock it is easy to forget what real weather can do!

OP posts:
hairypotter · 23/05/2011 17:01

Another s lanarkshire one here. Trees down bins escaping, even a small greenhouse blown over.

Seriously reconsidering brownies with dd2 as road there is notorious for falling trees.

I thought my car was going to blow over on school run earlier as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2011 17:03

may well be worth recosidering hairypotter.
