Or is it just me, like DH says? Blush

I have been buying cheap bags of salt in every other shopping delivery, and other bits and pieces.

I have a few bags of cheap grit/ cat litter too

I also got a few more fleecy blanket/throws type things, and have invested in heavy duty walking/wellie socks.

Dh thinks I am nuts!

I'm waiting for Aldi winter boots for DS.

effjay- where did you get the waterproof gloves from? i have some for me (leather) but the kids could do with some, i was going through 3 pairs each last year with 4 kids, kept having to dry them on the radiators

nicolamumof3 · 20/10/2010 10:45

ooh yes where are the proper water proof gloves.

i've got decent snow boots this year my feet froze in wellies last year, as i looked longingly at my beloved uggs.

maxybrown · 23/10/2010 23:52

jojo are selling kids waterproof gloves!

I was just remembering, we got a couple of days snow in november last year.

It was really unusual here. I wonder if we will again?

Please recommend those grippy things to put on your shoes. I am confused by the choice. Anyone got them? If so, what type?

Thanks

Yorkshire Trading have snow shovels in stock-dh was pondering over them earlier today. He was very smug last year as he bought a load of rock salt home the day before the snow hit.

gaelicsheep · 08/11/2010 00:08

I've been hearing scary rumours that this winter, here at least, will be worse than last. I am petrified. I'm not preparing yet, but I probably should be. We'll be getting snow chains for sure and stocking up the store cupboard again. Calor Gas for the emergency heater (we're off grid), ring Council about getting a grit pile for the hill (in case they decide to leave it unploughed and untreated for two weeks again Angry). Oh God, I hate winter. Sad

gaelicsheep · 08/11/2010 00:10

Oh yes, and a sledge for dragging the shopping up the hill (if we can't get back up after getting down). DH had to carry it all up last year (I was pregnant).

mankyscotslass · 09/11/2010 18:10

I got the kids snowboots today, that's another thing ticked off the list!

Dh is ordering a snow shovel this week too.

I now have 8 bags of cheap salt ready to go!

I am stocking up on salt too, also non perishable foods, tins and packets, plus dried milk. Keeping a loaf of bread in the freezer. I'm a single mum with two under eight, one a complete calcium kid and a very fussy eater, the other with special needs who would happily live on tinned stuff given the chance!

We just have one tiny costcutter within walking distance, sells only very basic stuff and last winter in the worst weather it ran out very quickly! So this winter I will prepare for the worst.

onadietcokebreak · 20/11/2010 22:55

I'm going to get a snow shovel and sledge probably online. Can anyone recommend a company/brand.

Also where exactly do you buy salt in bulk?

Time to get prepared just in case!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2010 09:29

Salt for deicing can be got from independent hardware stores. our local one still had sledges and shovels. Clearly the coming weather hasn't quite made it out to the wider public.

I would make sure that delivery of these items is guaranteed by midweek as by thursday it could be a bit late for some of you and it would be awful to have your needed supplies stuck in the royal mail for a few days Grin

Back in a mo - going to have a quick look at some online supplies.....

onadietcokebreak · 21/11/2010 09:40

Thnk OYBBK. Our local independant hardware store shut down a month ago. No demand!

Maybe I will try the farmers outlet for shovels etc.

onadietcokebreak · 21/11/2010 09:47

excuse typos.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2010 10:08

we are going to try these for the car.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2010 10:08

onadiet - thats really sad!
