Or is it just me, like DH says? Blush

I have been buying cheap bags of salt in every other shopping delivery, and other bits and pieces.

I have a few bags of cheap grit/ cat litter too

I also got a few more fleecy blanket/throws type things, and have invested in heavy duty walking/wellie socks.

Dh thinks I am nuts!

I am not preparing, but kind of hoping!! Last year I was heavily pregnant with SPD so didn't get out much when it got icy before the snow, then had DS at the start of the snow by c-section so didn't get out much in the thick of it either!
I have to say that journey from the car to the front door a couple of days after being sliced open wasn't fun - was terrified of slipping on the ice!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/10/2010 15:58

fwiw I don't think you are nuts, I can't see any signs yet that it won't be a similar winter to last year.

We have looooots of wood in. Not started on the salt yet - got one bag plus the snow shovel that we bought at the end of the snow. Will get cat litter in, but that will be for our cats as there is only so many days they can cross their legs for.
Will also stock up on some easy to cook foods that we can cook on our camping stuff.

rapidsjohnson · 08/10/2010 16:01

no, we are buying salt too. We have snow chains already.

OrmRenewed · 08/10/2010 16:02

Hmm....haven't thought about it but might get some salt just in case.

CMOTdibbler · 08/10/2010 16:03

Strangely, I have had an urge to equip the cars for bad weather, and just had a delivery of a jumbo box of instant hand warmers (v good value on Amazon at 20 quid for 40 pairs) as I realised they would be great if stuck anywhere.

Must get some rock salt in though

ProfYaffle · 08/10/2010 16:04

Hmmm, good point re salt, think I'll get a few bags.

invisibleink · 08/10/2010 16:04

Ah crap. An excellent idea to prepare ahead. My to do list is getting VERY long!!

Blush - i am currently thinking of ptxing my van and have wanted a lightly bigger one for ages - now i'm looking at battered old Defenders thinking about last yr (caveat - i live in the middle of nowhere)...

mankyscotslass · 08/10/2010 16:25

OYBBK, I have a feeling the winter may start for some at the end of this month!

I'm trying to find a snow shovel, but can't seem to source one locally for some reason.

I've been buying extra tins for emergencies too.

I'm going to make soup to freeze too.

My neighbour has bought a 4x4(in addition to his normal bmw) and snowchains - I think he is taking it a bit far.

I think I just like to have things to buy - I am expecting to see him with skis and snowshoes next.

TheChewyToffeeMum · 08/10/2010 16:37

I mean HE likes to have things to buy.

Flighttattendant · 08/10/2010 16:59

Port, apparently the Discovery is a better engine and also cheaper as they aren't so trendy Wink

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/10/2010 18:08

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/10/2010 18:10

shall we all order these and start a shortage?

Northernlurker · 08/10/2010 18:10

Yes I am planning to buy a) a sledge and b) some salt. Also new walking boots but I need those anyway.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 08/10/2010 18:15

My Freezer is an anal wonderland of neatly stacked squares of Soup, Stew, Goulash, Curry, Chili. I also have Home made Nan Breads (so easy) individual portions of Hummus and Pesto, Bread, Milk, Butter/marge, Cheese. Its all ordered and noted.

I have pulses, baked beans in a tins, Tuna, Pasta, Rice, tinned Veg.... Bottled Water, UHT Milk Blush

This is all in my Zombie/Nuclear War survival stores.

I will buy salt if the weather turns dramatically by the end of November because then i will truly have to accept im not going to be moved house by Christmas Sad

I need some good boots as both my pairs are fabric and are therefore rubbish in Snow/Rain but i have muscular fat calves so can't find any boots to fit me. Sad

nancy75 · 08/10/2010 18:18

i bought some wellies the other day - could not get a pair last year.

i have about 20 bags of salt, i bought it last year and it didn't snow again!

We are lucky really there is a tesco express 10 minutes walk away so we are never going to starve.

colditz · 08/10/2010 18:24

Riven, is there any way you could stack your DD's wheelchair onto a sldge and have one person ulling the sledge and one person holding the wheelchair?
