Baby Led Weaning Cookbook

Here

I'm halfway through reading a copy of 'Baby-led weaning' by Gill Rapley and Tracey Murkett but the owner wants it back so I was checking on Amazon for how much a new copy would be when I saw this cook book.

In the book she keeps repeating how you don't need a special cook book for BLW, you just cook healthy meals without salt and then let baby share. So what's with the book? Cashing in?

Wondering if it's worth getting rather than the original book though. It says it gives ideas on how to get started (DD is 10 days off 6 months old) as well as the recipies. I like recipies. I weaned DS on purees and follwed Annabel Karmel to the letter...

Try the baby led weaning website. There are thousands of recipes on there, probably the ones in the book! here
I think there are recipes as pe4ople want to know how to cook things a 6 month old can pick up and get to their mouth, but that the whole family can enjoy! Just lots of healthy interesting recipes really.

Thanks. I didn't know there was a website.

After looking into the book a bit further, it's not going to be an option anyway as it doesn't come out until November by which time DD will be 11 months old and a bit big to start BLW.

The website could be the answer. Thanks

the book has nothing to do with my website, i can assure you.

AlCrowley · 08/06/2010 10:26

Is that your website Aitch!!

It's very good

Aitch · 08/06/2010 10:37

thanks. although all the photos fell off it when the server crashed, and we've never been able to find them again. i should put some ads on it, it costs me money...

AlCrowley · 08/06/2010 10:54

The "disclaimers", "about us" and "contact us" go to a 404 too.

Next time DD is covered in food, I'll take a photo for you

oh the whole place is a mess, i don't really know what to do, the friend who was helping me with it just isn't well at all... do send me photos, that would be great.

AlCrowley · 08/06/2010 11:00

DH is a bit of a website whizz. Would you like me to ask him if he could take a look?

Would make a change from the fishing site he does for his friend!!

ooh, I'd have loved that book - we've been trying BLW with DS, but it's been bloody hard work - he's 8 months old and will eat just about any fruit or veg (except potatoes and strawberries), but refuses all forms of protein/carbohydrate. I'm not a great cook, and like having my recipes laid out in front of me - not on a website!

(love your site though aitch, I used it in the early days, and if you need any pictures, we've got some lovely 'first steps' ones of BLW! such as this one)

Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:00

YES!

Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:05

hahaha, that's lovely.
they're funny little freaks, aren't they? i think my 'relationship' with BLW changed a bit when i had dd2. she's only a 'good eater' because i amn't bothered about the fact that she refuses stuff, iykwim? whereas her sister gobbled everything. and dd2 to give her her due, does try everything, it's just that she doesn't like as much stuff as her big sis.
so while i don't myself suffer from any panic about her (she drinks milk, she does eat, just from a fairly limited range, and she is a strong little thing desp having been prem) i can see why people could 'over-react' to a child like that. so in a way i think the biggest blw lesson is less about the recipes and more about the headspace of the parent, that it mustn't be a battle, iywkim? hmmm, musing about it all. i just don't like extremes i guess.

AlCrowley · 08/06/2010 11:09

I think I have a brocolli one of DD somewhere. It's so good for BLW with the little handle

CAT me Aitch and I'll get him to have a look later.

OP posts:
Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:12

cheers. am not on CAT actually, are you?
any photos gratefully appreciated, esp if they can be cut out without background, iykwim? free-standing babies with easily removed kitchen behind it?

kveta · 08/06/2010 11:13

aitch - everyone tells me he's a great eater, because they are battling to spoon slop down their child's throat, whilst DS almost inhales his beetroot slices, and can eat things even DP struggles with. it's just he won't touch most carb/fatty things! we've ended up spoon feeding a bit, which initially made me , but then I thought, bugger it, he's fine. got an ace pincer grip now too

AlCrowley · 08/06/2010 11:15

I'm on CAT. I'll message you...

AlCrowley · 08/06/2010 11:16

Sent. They do take a while to come through sometimes though

OP posts:
Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:21

TOTALLY bugger it, he's fine. i think it's the sense of embarrassment at spoon feeding that makes me uncomfortable with the BLW hard line, iykwim? it shouldn't be that way. dd doesn't do starchy carbs at all, but loves protein and will climb over tables to get to edamame. they're total weirdos.

Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:21

thanks v much, al. will respond when i get it.

kveta · 08/06/2010 11:24

oh, aitch - i don't have cat, but if you want any of the pics on my facebook BLW album, I've left it with access to everyone (and no names of baby mentioned, obviously!). we got some nice shots of DS with his grub, feel free to use them if you wish!

mnistooaddictive · 08/06/2010 11:31

Sorry Aitch for the slur! Your website is amazing and with all the recipes on there you don't need a book. I assumed you were publishing some of them as I know lots of people suggested you did. I actually had anemail from somewher asking me to suggest recipes for a book. I guessed it had come through my registration with you but it must have come from somewhere else!

Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:32

cheers, will have a look later in the evening if that's okay?

AlCrowley · 08/06/2010 11:32

You're welcome

Off to pick up DS from Preschool now but it'll be lunchtime when we get back. Will keep the camera nearby

OP posts:
Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:33

no, i have never, ever, ever, ever given anyone's name out. i'm even too self-conscious to send out emails to the list... maybe it's soemthign i should think about, but what would i say? a blw roundup?

Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:35

i would actually like to write something about weaning, though. more aimed at the mothers and their heads, as much as recipes and tips... just helping them to relax about weaning and do whateverthefuck they think is right for them and theirs. but i think people like rules too much, so i don't imagine anyone would buy it.
