He does look very young but I couldn't say for sure.

CMOTdibbler · 15/02/2010 15:56

OMG, she can't be more than 3 months can she ?

DrivenToDistraction · 15/02/2010 15:58

Far too young. Maybe 8 or 10 weeks? She hates it

Lulumama · 15/02/2010 15:58

that baby is not sitting up, has still got tongue thrust reflex and is clearly not enjoying being fed, the age is almost irrelevant .. i would say 4 - 5 months?

Comewhinewithme · 15/02/2010 16:00

I don't know it made me feel bad because I let my Mum give ds some solids when he was about 12 weeks because she was insisting he was ready and I didn't have a clue.
He is 12 now and ok but he must have been very tiny too .

i don't think i/m very good at judging ages

Comewhinewithme · 15/02/2010 16:01

BTW my others were weaned at 6 months when I got a backbone and stood up to my Mother .

ruddynorah · 15/02/2010 16:03

fucking hell

OmniDroid · 15/02/2010 16:07

Poor babies are really not enjoying that, are they

Comewhinewithme · 15/02/2010 16:08

No the baby looks very distressed in the second link.

OP posts:
waitingforbedtime · 15/02/2010 16:12

that second link is awful

AmazingBouncingFerret · 15/02/2010 16:15

They dont look very old at all. Poor little things. Why do people want to hurry weaning? the nappies get awful once they start on "real" food. I'd rather wait as long as possible!!

Lulumama · 15/02/2010 16:20

a lot of parents don't udnerstand the rationale behind weaning, that milk is enough for the first 6 months or so, that a baby might not be physically ready for solids
there is a lot of conflicting advice from HCPs and forums and books.. lots of parents will take advice from their own paretns and will therefore not do things with a full understanding of guidelines etc

or will think the guideline s don't apply or their baby is more advanced/developed etc

or they dont have confidnece in milk , or are told they are starving their baby if they are wanting more feeds as it's clearly not enough

what i think is odd is feeding your young baby who is clearly distressed and posting it online for anyone to see

Galena · 15/02/2010 16:21

I'm not saying that these babies are ready, as they are clearly not enjoying it.

However... DD was tiny when weaned as she was premature. She couldn't sit up, but loved it.

She's still tiny and we get some very odd looks when we feed her when out and about. People are obviously thinking we've weaned her ridiculously early! Christmas dinner!

SydneyB · 15/02/2010 16:21

Its horrible to look at I agree but I'm not terribly shocked. To be honest I've seen lots of babies being weaned at this age. It's much more 'acceptable' than we'd like to think.. I've certainly found myself in the minority in not weaning my two until 6 months.

WorzselMummage · 15/02/2010 16:24

Ds was 6lb when I weaned him.

It is impossible to judge age by size.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 15/02/2010 16:29

she looks around 12 weeks, same age and size as ds when i weaned him, he's been absolutely fine, and loves his food. i think what she's hating is the scary "yuuummmyy!" noises her mum and dad are making, poor thing!

edwardcullensotherwoman · 15/02/2010 16:32

the baby boy in ruddynorah's link is obviously not happy with being fed though..but he hasn't even been sat up - we can't eat laying down so why lay a baby down to eat??

belgo · 15/02/2010 16:35

Why would anyone post that on youtube? How many people do they think are interested in watching their baby eating?

moomaa · 15/02/2010 16:39

The first link doesn't look too bad to me, you can't tell the age, but the second link is distressing to watch.

(5.5 months here, DS that was probably too late but not confident enough to go against the 6 month rule, DD probably too early but wanted to do the same as for her brother and pressure from DH, the benefits of hindsight).

Galena · 15/02/2010 16:39

He's in a bouncy chair... DD prefers eating lying down! But then, she's awkward! Meals are sitting up, but rice cakes/toast/etc she prefers lying down and if I sit her up she gags a lot more. Strange child.

BooHooo · 15/02/2010 16:43

Good God

That really is a great way to give your child weight/ food problems

belgo · 15/02/2010 16:43

just seen the second link, how stupid are those parents or whoever it is feeding that baby, I can't watch it all, he lloks like he will choke any minute.

BooHooo · 15/02/2010 16:47

The way they are cooing and laughing as he chokes and screams is actually quite sick, as is every time he opens his mouth to scream they shove more of the stuff in...

Galena · 15/02/2010 16:51

So really the problem is not the fact that the babies look young, but the fact that they aren't enjoying it. (I notice nobody has commented on the pics of DD - despite her looking younger than these!)
