Hiya fellow Mums!I really want to hear your experiences from Mums who weaned before 4 months please or for fellow Mums who are thinking of weaning before 4 months!

I don't want to hear from Mums who want to stick their 2 pence worth in on not doing it as its wrong and blah blah blah.... as EVERY BABY IS DIFFERENT!

My DD is coming up 12 weeks old but i started weaning her at 10 1/2 weeks old and She's doing really well and enjoys her food.

I really need some recipes to go on with,so if you got any please let me know!

I was a bit miffed when i went to my local mums and baby group and a mum told me off like a child for weaning DD before 4-6 months!I did exp[lain that i had done my research and had spoken to a few pediatric specialists and they ok'd it.....The look on her face when the other Mums told her they weaned at 10 1/2 months too...i have to say i did feel better that i wasn't the only one in the "Before-4-month-weaning-boat"!

Babies ain't that different acksherly.

Don't care what you say, your baby does not have the digestive capability for solids.

After 17 weeks this is a little more open to interpretation of the individual baby, but no way at 10.5 weeks.

BooBooChicken · 17/12/2009 18:36

hmmm...

oopsandbabyJesusinacoconut · 17/12/2009 18:37

Leaves a stash of hard hats.

bintofbohemia · 17/12/2009 18:39

Ha, it's a wind up, isn't it...

winnybella · 17/12/2009 18:40

If this is for real...I have hard time believing you found any doctor okaying weaning at 10 weeks.
They are not supposed to be weaned before 17 weeks at the earliest. There's a medical consensus on this.
You are wrong.

notanun · 17/12/2009 18:42

I know a great recipe.

Ingredients:

milk

Equipment

boobs ideally but if not bottles

HTH

MummyClausGoneCrazy · 17/12/2009 18:42

A baby will take anything you put in their mouths it doesnt mean they are ready for it

DD1 and DD2 were started on baby rice when they were 16 weeks

DD3 is 13 weeks and has all the signs of needing more so i gave her more milk, its just a growth spurt, she wont be feed anything solid until at least 16-17 weeks

EldonAve · 17/12/2009 18:43

"don't want to have a debate" is a recipe for disaster on here

are you new?

competitive weaning is so 1980!

MummyClausGoneCrazy · 17/12/2009 18:43

meant fed not feed

AliBellandthe40jingles · 17/12/2009 18:43

Surely this is a wind up? If not, then what on EARTH possessed you to wean at 10.5 weeks?

bintofbohemia · 17/12/2009 18:44

This was quite common in the 70's, wasn't it? Before people knew better...

GhoulsAreLoud · 17/12/2009 18:44

I know someone who weaned her DS onto rusks at 11 weeks, he was on 3 meals a day by about 4 months.

He's 16months now and still vomits if he encounters a lump, everything has to be pureed to a liquid for him.

Don't know if that's what you wanted to hear or if his issues are related to his weaning age, but there you go.

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 17/12/2009 18:44

I don't think you should wean before 4 months.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 17/12/2009 18:44

OK, I'll put my hands up, I'm a terrible mother and I started weaning mine at under 12 weeks, with baby rice added to the bottle of formula. (See, really evil.)

They're now both grown men with no allergy/gut problems.

traceybath · 17/12/2009 18:45

Roast turkey - tis christmas after all [fwink}

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 17/12/2009 18:45

No weaning before 4 months here.

grumpypants · 17/12/2009 18:45

where on earth did you find a few paediatric specialists to okay it with? I find I need to make an appointment and get a referral from my GP in order to do so.

traceybath · 17/12/2009 18:46

You are joking aren't you?

peacocks · 17/12/2009 18:46

I was weaned at ten pounds weight and so were my sisters. I've no allergies, intolerances or gut problems. Early weaning was widespread forty years ago and that generation did not seem to be plagued with the allergies, intolerances and gut problems suffered by this generation.

I weaned two at 16 weeks and one a little earlier due to constipation and then nothing but veg and fruit.

I don't think you need recipes, just mix milk with veg and fruit.

MIL did this and claims it never did dh any harm. he has the worst guts, digestive problems, irritable bowel etc. nowt to do with baby rice at 10 weeks though.

peacocks · 17/12/2009 18:47

Baby rice is vile and disgusting btw

catbus · 17/12/2009 18:48

It used to be that babies were weaned much sooner than 4 months; dependent on the appetite! My MIL weaned her 2nd born at about 2 months; no problems, he was a much more contented baby and is now a perfectly healthy adult of 40 something.
Weaning and giving baby tastes of things are obviously entirely different; DD1 as an example, tasted melon, sucks of banana etc form about 8 weeks. I think (hazy memory)we properly embarked on weaning when she was about 3 and a half months. Again; perfectly fine and very healthy now!
'Rules' seem to change all the time on when to do what with babies; I mean, I can remember my Grandma proudly saying she started potty training before her babies could sit up, which as it goes, was not unusual!
