A General Thread for BLW

Hi! I thought I would start off a thread for anybody who is interested in BLW, who has started it or has done it and hopefully we can support one another. I havnt seen another general thread on it yet so sorry if anyone has already started it-could you link me if so?

My DS is nearly 6mths old and we have been giving him the odd bit of finger food which he absoloutly loves! Guidelines state you should wait until they are 6mths old and able to sit unsupported but 1st time parent excitment has made me a bit impatient and eager to let DS join in the fun!

So is there anyone else out there?

If you want to introduce nuts I suppose smooth peanut butter (on toast?) would be the best way - whole nuts are a choking hazard anyway.

We only held off dairy/wheat until 7 months.

finally other ppl doing BLW!!! I am sick to death of family and friends making out i have lost all my brain cells during pregnancy! we have been blw for about 3 wks now...dd turned the magical 6 months on tuesday but she started grabbing and i doubt 10 days makes a great deal of difference :O anyway that was what we decided to do and 3 weeks later we're going great guns. Lily put on a pound in weight in a fortnight which for a petite little lady between the 2nd and 9th centile is very impressive to her proud mama! we have tried tons of stuff but i just wondered is there ANYTHING bar whole nuts and honey that we really shouldnt give? my mum was talking to her annabel karmel following friend who told her some stuff about tomato pips and underripe bananas being posioness to babies? never heard it myself but wondered if anyone could shed any light. i'm pretty laid bk abt the whole thing and Lily loves anything but wouldn't want to accidentally poison the poor lamb!

and ipanemagirl i read that abt the peanuts too...i plan on getting some peanut butter tomorrow and will try...we have no allergies between us dh and i or grandparents...i personlly think the more u avoid the worse it is...BUT obviously if u have allergies or have family members who do i can understand caution totally

Hullo, just thought I'd come and get some ideas/support for BLW my dt's who are 28 weeks now. Started off giving both roasted carrot sticks but ds3 clearly not that keen and can't hold anything. DD great at picking up and gumming, and having loaded spoons handed to her (so the butternut squash puree made before I thought about blw went down well). She doesn't like being spoon fed at all.

I am amazed by the stories on here about what your children can eat but not sure whether it's going to be a) a lot more work and b) a lot more mess with twins. We have a lot of soups and risottos, so can't see how to instantly translate that to BLW.

I was thinking about some roast potatoes next and trying some more fruit (well, dd fine with chunks of banana but dp ended up spoon feeding it to ds). Not getting much support from dp/dm/MIL in fact dm insisted on giving ds readybrek when I was round there last week, which of course he lapped up. Hard to keep going when everyone else doubting me and I have one puree-preferrer and one made for BLW baby!
