I know, I know, you can all chorus "it's messy - deal with it!" at me in unison... But I am just [shudder emoticon] at the thought!!

Welcome to the joys of BLW!!

littleboyblue · 21/06/2008 15:54

Thanx yeti. There wasn't as much as I'd thought in the chair when I got him out so he'd eaten more than I thought he did, and he still had a whole stage 3 jar too. Hmmm The big fatty.
Will he definately 100% stop eating when he not hungry? He already weighs 2st and he not even a year old!

nappyaddict · 21/06/2008 17:29

as i said with giving him the jar he may be eating it just cos you're offering it him and he doesn't have to make the effort. if he's eaten most of what you gave him on his own i wouldn't bother offering the jar tbh - only if he doesn't eat much or any of it. remember what i said about helping ds finish his lunch once cos i thought he hadn't eaten much and then he puked it all up everywhere? so yes i think they can overeat if they don't have to make any effort to eat it. ds certainly did that day but he'd actually stopped eating himself when he was full iyswim.

littleboyblue · 21/06/2008 20:04

Hi. Ds ate the whole jar after the pasta and broccoli(!) and was fine, no sick, no upset, and the minute I put him down, he was off to the other side of room so don't think he was bloated or anything either.
Anyhow, for his dinner I gave him fishfingers, boiled potato cubes, sweetcorn and carrot, again after he'd picked it all up and put it back down he ate a fair ammount of it all on his own. I gave him a banana and some strawberries to finish.
When I took him out of h/c, there was alot f food stuck down the sides but I didn't offer him anything else and he was fine then too.

Thanx again for you're help and support nappyaddict.

And Tinkjon, if you still watching, I'm really sorry I completely hijacked your thread.

nappyaddict · 21/06/2008 22:15

i think ds was sick cos he's not used to eating passed feeling full iyswim whereas your ds might be and feels fine. i know they're only little but i do worry about overeating and obesity. less so now ds is walking around but he was a late walker and was very heavy a few months ago.

littleboyblue · 21/06/2008 22:19

I worry abou that too. If I over feed now, he'll be overeating forever won't he?
He had really bad reflux so was very sick all the time so it was hard to judge if he'd had too much or if he was sick coz he was gonna be anyway IYSWIM.
He didn't grow out of it till quite recently.
Everyone tells me babies won't eat if they not hungry, but I'm not convinced. I think ds would eat all day!
At same time I don't wanna underfeed either. One day a few months back, we went to car boot sale and I completely lost track of time, ds went 8 hours between breakfast and lunch, but didn't at any point let me know he was hungry! I only realised when we were on way home and I looked at time!

nappyaddict · 21/06/2008 22:25

he probably didn't let you know he was hungry cos he simply wasn't. as i said before small children need remarkably little to keep them going and unlike adults don't understand that 12-2 is lunchtime 5-7 is dinnertime etc. often i will look at the clock and think oh i better get some lunch and then realise hang on i'm not actually hungry. i don't need to eat just cos the clocks telling me to.

a baby who is used to regulating their appetite (ie one that self fed from the beginning) won't usually overeat. - ds is evidence of this. one who is used to the parent/caregiver taking the lead and telling them when they are full (ie giving them a set portion and taking it away when it's all gone) may eat when they aren't necessarily hungry cos they haven't learnt how to regulate their own appetite yet. that will gradually come as he learns to feed himself.

littleboyblue · 21/06/2008 22:37

True. I'm sure he'll let me know if there a prob, if I listen to him.
He always been on 98th centile, so not concerned if he losses a bit of weight and if he has less than he wants for a while whilst I'm fuguring out his appetite with self-feeding, it not gonna harm him.
Think as well as he not used to feeding himself, he gets tired quick too.

nappyaddict · 21/06/2008 23:08

ds has always been big and he's been funny with eating lately but i've not wanted to push so just left him to it. he has got skinny around the waist but cos he was chunky to start with it hasn't mattered too much.

littleboyblue · 21/06/2008 23:10

Now ds is crawling I expect him to l,ose a bit too. I was thinking maybe he'd need more food to keep him going now that he more active, but think he needs to start learning to eat proper food himself.

nappyaddict · 21/06/2008 23:13

ds didn't really lose any by crawling and cos he didn't walk until 21 months he was very heavy by then.

littleboyblue · 21/06/2008 23:14

Don't say that! ds is already 2 stone! Plus I'm in early pregnancy, if I get really big again it'll be a nightmare!

nappyaddict · 21/06/2008 23:16

ds only put on about 6lb altogether from his first birthday to 21 months when he walked so maybe it did slow his weight gain down.

littleboyblue · 21/06/2008 23:19

Ok. I'm thinking my ds's weight gain has got to slow down soon too. I watched that program the other night about biggest babies and there was a bit about little girl who was same age as ds and same weight and she was eating proper shit. Hope hv doesn't think I give ds chips, chocolate, sweets and biscuits to live on

littleboyblue · 22/06/2008 12:38

Back onto Aitch's site now to get some meal plans and find out about meat. Ds is now eating eggy toast.
