Hi there everyone,

looking for some advice, I have an 8month old who from the get go has not wanted to be spoon fed with his mouth being pretty pursed shut when we have attempted to do this. Maybe the odd thing he’s taken off the spoon like Greek yogurt. We are now three months in with lots of stops and starts due to illness. We decided to let him touch and explore food and offer his full milk feeds as they say he doesn’t really need food. it is however starting to really grate on me that he rarely picks much to his mouth and a lot of time with throw spoons mush the food on the odd time where he seems keen he will let us pop something in his mouth but it is not a huge amount to consider a meal. We have attempted eating with him/ leaving him and helping him along.

yesterday was the first time I managed to feed him scramble egg with cheese after a lot singing and dancing around. If it was on a spoon this wouldn’t have worked. He has 6.5oz bottles about 4 times a day. A lot of people have said to swap the milk fkr food first so he learns it does satisfy his hunger.

I’m feeling scared of the outcomes and what to even do, it feels very overwhelming. My other two were spoon fed so this feels different I don’t know the right or wrong thing to do. I know when he starts nursery at 1 they will offer solids and milk after as per their normal routine I’m just concerned whether I am prepping him appropriately.

can anyone offer any reassurance and advice, does it turn out okay in the end is ok to mix some hand feeding and letting him explore I am so exhausted with this. Does nursery help with all of this?

zero solids today… got really upset in his highchair at lunch so we abandoned it for comfort. I was sat beside him eating. We’ve been using solid starts as a guide.

we’ve tried a combo approach but there’s been no purée because he’s never wanted it. Wvee served soft vegetables, toast fingers, mac and cheese brocili stems, omelette fingers, rice balls, tomatoe slices.

Gna have to ride this one and continue to offer milk as he requires it.

x

All we can really do is offer it to them, absolutely no way of forcing them to eat. If they eat it, great, if they dont then try again next snack or meal time. I've been super stressed by it too, so I feel you. My friends babies are such foodies but mine not so much. 😅 My little one has had a better few days with food, some meals he'll eat more than others. Some days not much at all.

You're doing amazing, sending hugs and support to you 💐

@Devilsmommy @Maymin
he seems To be teething but I do feel like we always say this. I’d say he’s had a sour turn after being ill over Xmas and still has a chesty cough but he was touching food before and now we have got to no food touching which makes me Feel like we are going backwards. Today i offered oatmeal which he lent into and tried to help him
scoop and take the spoon to his mouth he just got frustrated after a few spoons then eagerly through the spoons around x

feel like I’m willing away time till this is better planning on batch making some pancakes tomorrow and offering them x

I know it's frowned upon on here but I spoon feed my 15mo some things still because he doesn't like messy stuff on his hands, he's great with finger food though. I'd just keep trying stuff he can grab and definitely not after a milk feed. And don't worry about him not using a spoon himself. Mine still doesn't, he'd just sit there chewing on it😂 it's said alot on here that food before 1 is just for fun and it really is. As long as they're getting their milk at this age they're fine. Hope the pancakes work out well 😊
